“Mummy what’s a mutant?” Little Charisma asked as she walked over to her mother gently tugging on her mother’s shirt. Her mother looked down at her daughter in awe and with a slight sense of panic.

Setting the cake she was carrying down on the table she kneeled down to look her daughter right in the eyes. “Sweetheart, where did you hear that word?”

Charisma swayed from side to side as she played with her long dark hair. “Grandpa, momma, he said that he hoped that I wasn’t one. But what is a mutant in the first place.”

“Nothing you need to worry about sweetheart.” Her mother offered a faint smile. “You’ll find out when you are older.”

“But momma.” Charisma whined as she looked up at her mother with pout evident in her blue eyes. “I am three today, I am old enough!”

“Later sweetheart.” She laughed as she kissed her forehead. “I have an idea. Why don’t you go find your father so when can open your gifts.”

Charisma’s face seemed to beam with joy as she skipped out of the small house. Her mother sighed, her own blue eyes filled with sadness. ‘My poor little girl.’ She thought as she watched her leave the room.

Charisma happily skipped down the hall into a different part of the compound. She stopped when she reached the steel hallway her delighted face dropping instantly.

“Daddy!” She called out as she held the sides of her baby blue and white dress. She tightly clutched the rail with her tiny hand as she made the decent into the area. She many times over that grandpa had told her not to come bother him and her father when they were working in the lab but her mother told her go get her father. “Daddy.” She spoke again as she continued to walk down further. Finally she reached the bottom, a faint light showing in the dim area. Charisma slowly kept walking quietly sitting behind an electrical box near an exit, trying to keep out of sight. She slowly peeked out from behind the box, curiosity getting the best of her simply watching for long moments.

“Stop him!!” A harsh yell frightened the small girl as backed up a bit. The screams of the glass mixing with the shrills of the people scattering about the lab room...

“Daddy!” Charisma screamed as she felt a pair of arms hold her down on a cold metal table. “Let me go! Somebody help me!!” She screamed as she fought against the person.

“Charisma, no one is going to hurt you.” She heard someone speak as she popped her eyes open, frantically looking around the sterile room. She was merely dreaming again about memories long since past. She looked at the man holding her shoulders pushing him away from her.

“Get off of me!”

“You may want to calm down.” A red haired woman told her. “You were in a pretty bad car accident.”

Charisma looked down she was covered in blood and bandages. “I’m fine.”

“Do you have a number of where we can reach your family?” A man wearing what looked to Charisma like a goggles for a cyclops.

Charisma moved a bit further away from them. “No.”

“Do you know where your family lives?”

“No.”

“So you-“

“I don’t have a family alright.” She snapped harshly. “So just leave it alone.”

A woman with white hair walked over to he, kneeling a bit to look her in the face. “Are you from an orphanage?”

“It’s not you alls business.” Charisma spoke bitterly. “Now if any of you would be so kind as to show me an exit, I really must be going.”

“I don’t think so, you were bleeding quite a bit and I think you broke your neck.” The red haired woman told her as she tried to examine Charisma again.

“Don’t touch me.” Charisma hissed moving away from her.

“Why don’t you all let me speak with Charisma alone?” The man in the wheel chair said, finally speaking up. The other three left as he moved closer to her. “What was that in your mind?”

“You were the one invading why don’t you tell me.” Charisma retorted.

“Do you even know?” He questioned.

“Hey, you’re the physic so why don’t you tell me, Charles.” Charisma told him smiling slightly.

“Well apparently you are too.”

“Look things would be a lot easier if you would just stay out of my mind alright? You have no right to enter any persons mind without permission so please stop and please show me the way out of here!”

“Where are you going?” Charles wondered.

“Wherever the next car I steel leads me.” She answered as she reached for her bag.

“You are welcome here.”

Charisma laughed. “No, I don’t think so.”

“I can help you.” Charles offered.

“Believe me I am beyond help. It’s just best you leave me alone.”

“You think that cause others have failed?”

“Like I said, you’re the physic so you tell me.” Charisma spoke as she gathered her bag. She scooted off of the table and started to walk to the door.

“You’re not hurt?”

Charisma rolled her eyes before turning back to face him again. “Apparently I am not, and in the first place it is not a concern of yours.” She turned again and placed a hand on the door knob preparing to exit.

“Aren’t you sick of running?”

She turned to face him, looking blankly at him. He struck a nerve in her.

“Give me a chance to help you, just try this out for awhile and then if you are not happy you may leave when you want.”

She leaned against the door, sighing. She closed her eyes for a bit then opened them. “What have I got to lose? Sure, why not.”

He nodded. “Good, then let me show you two your room.”

She followed him out of the room and into the long oak accented corridor. She walked a few paces behind him taking in the grand scenery that was new to her. He stopped at a door then opened it, inviting her in. It was a pale pink room ever so neatly laid out. Two twin beds with dark pink sheets, like wood dressers, desks, and doors, this would be her new home.

“This is your room.” He told her. He pointed to the door placed centered to her left. “That is the bathroom; I will leave you to freshen up.”

Charisma turned around just as he exited the room. She gently placed her bag on the bed pulling out a pair of fresh clothes, making her way to the bathroom.

‘Girlie.’ Charisma thought looking at the pink tile all around her. Shrugging the thought off, she peeled off her battered as well as bloody clothing and band-aids. Throwing them in the trash, there was no way she could salvage then anyway. She made her way into the shower welcoming the warm water that sprayed on her body.

This was a treat. Trying to bathe in public restrooms with cheap clear yellow hand soap could never compare to the exuberating feeling of the shower she was now enjoyed. After washing the grime and blood of her life as a nomad, so to put it, she stepped out the shower. She changed into a red tank top and tight black low rider jeans. She sighed and looked into the mirror shaking her dark tresses out then snatching them back into a ponytail.

She exited the oddly overly feminine bathroom and then proceeded to walking back down the grand corridor. Letting her senses guide her she stopped in front of Xavier’s door. She gave it a few quick strong knocks before entering. She stepped in to see four pairs of eye looking at her.

“Well I see you’re all cleaned up.” Charles told her with a smile. “Charisma I would like you to meet Jean Grey, Scott Summers, and Storm.”

Charisma nodded.

“Scott and Jean are the ones who found you.”

“Are you alright?” Jean asked as she stood near Charisma.

“Yea.” She shrugged confused as Jean was trying to take a good look at her. “You looking for something?”

“No, I was just concerned because of the extent of the accident.” Jean told her slowly as she backed away from her.

Charisma turned her attention back to Charles.

“Have you ever been to school Charisma?” He asked.

“Not to my knowledge but I know how to read and write.” She answered.

“Well you go.” He told her handing her this packet.

“What’s this?”

“Things you’ll need for school.”

“School?”

“Yes, you will be attending school. Your roommate will is in most of the same classes with you and she’ll be there to help you. And so will we if you have any problems.” Charles spoke as he moved out of the room as Charisma walked with him. “You are free to roam the grounds but make sure you read the list of rules that I have given you. You do have a curfew and chores so you can earn an allowance.”

“Rules?” Charisma asked her eye almost twitching at the thought.

“Why of course.” Charles told her with a smile. “Here is your roommate. Rogue.” He called out getting the attention of the girl with the white highlights in the front of her auburn hair. She walked over to them standing a few feet away from Charisma. “Rogue this is Charisma, she’s new.”

“Hi.” Rogue spoke as she waved to Charisma.

“Rogue would you mind showing Charisma around?” Charles asked as he looked at Rogue.

“Of course not.” Rogue answered. She and Charisma left.
