A Definition of Self
How does one define themselves, titles, actions, thoughts, all are just a part of what a person is. On their own they stand for nothing but together they make up what we are, who we are, they define ourselves.
Words are so lacking in helping tell you who I am, they flee from my mind and my lips when it is time to describe that, which makes me, who I am. To know who I am, you must first know me, to see my action, to know my emotion, when I am sad, angry, hurt. You must see how I react to all the things around me, and then you will only know part of who I am.
To know me, you must also listen to what I say, listen to my opinions for they also make up who I am. A person is a collection of thoughts, and if you never listen to a person thoughts, if you only focus on what you see in the moment, the looks of the person how they walk and appear, then you will never know anyone, and you will never know me.
My action define a part of me, my action tell you what my emotions are. When I am angry you can see it, when I am sad you can tell, but alone my actions are nothing. If you see a man walking with his hands flying around in the air, is he mad, angry, or trying to swat a fly. Only when you stop and ask the person what they are feelings does their action begin to help define them. Alone actions are nothing but movements but with emotions they become something more, they help define a person.
There is so much to me, so much that I cannot define, things that cannot be written. How do you write a dream? When pen comes to paper it is never the same, but when you tell the dream, when a person can hear the way you speak it, the emotion in your voice then you can grasp that dream. The Best way I can define myself is to not define myself at all.
I can tell you I am a student, a son, a friends, and even to some an enemy, but in the end all these are just titles and I am so much more then a title. I am a person, and a person can never be truly defined, we are always changing, are emotions always very and our outlook on life is never the same as it was yesterday. To define myself would take a lifetime, one that I am ready to live, and in the end when I look back all I can say is that I am who I am.
I am an ever-changing definition of self. |
