For this job, you will need:
- A can of compressed air
- A printout of this tutorial
- To turn off your PC for the duration of this job
Warning! Before doing this, make sure your warranty on your PC is up, otherwise, leave this to your computer technician. Now that we have that out of the way, let's start by removing the cover (which is why you cannot do this if the warranty is still valid, opening the case makes the warranty void). Now, check any cables in the floppy drive, CD or DVD drives, and the hard drive, to make sure they are firmly plugged in. Also check for any foreign substance on them (glue, stray bits of metal, your ex), and remove them from the computer without damaging any of the components. If you are using a tower case, it may be awkward to reach the CD drive cable, but be patient. If you are using a desktop style case, it will be generally easy to reach and find all of these things. Your next job is to grab your can of compressed air, and hold it at 90 degrees, never tilting it more than 45 degrees and never upside down. Now move the can, while spraying, in a sweeping motion from one side of the case to the other. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Then spray the bottom again. Now put the cover back on, and plug in any cables you might've unplugged. That's all there is to it. Your PC now has a much greater chance of not catching on fire during use. One last note, make sure that before you start the computer, and once you have the case back on, spray the power supply from outside the case as well, as it generally collects a lot of dust.
