FACIAL TEXTURES
To create a detailed, recognizable face an image featuring the character or actors head from a straight perspective (Facing forward) with even lighting (few shadows) is needed. In most non-studio photos lighting will be uneven from one side of the face to the other. Luckily, I've began solving this problem by copying one side of the face (the contents of the red box) and mirroring it to serve as the other half. With a little effort an image such as the one to the left becomes an excellent example.
BODY TEXTURES
I usually create body textures from a mix of direct samples from a character image and self-created textures. As a result, the clarity and quality of a body image does not need to be as high as that of a facial image. Primarily these images are simply used as a reference in the creation of the body texture. Because of that they should at least show important details of the character's costume but CAN be blury, pixelated, or of a low resolution. Finally, you should try and locate several body images. These should show different areas of the costume and the character's body from different angles.
Now get to searching...I'm ready to begin work on your skin. One place you might try is www.celebritywonder.com. If you come across any good sources drop me a line and I'll let others know.
