Transforming in the air, Starscream looked out to the new rising
sun. It was a new dawn … a new life, which he now embraced. It had been
a long time since he had felt so good. So long, in fact, he was guilty of it
…
No. He couldn’t let doubts like this hurt him now. He had just got free
from a tyrant’s grip! One of the first to do that … ever.
But now it was to business.
He flew low over the mountainous area, and soared towards the Arc. He didn’t
want to do this … he had no one left …
No, he did.
And that such person was currently standing outside, watching the sunrise.
Skyfire …
Give me a reason to believe
That you're gone
I see your shadow so I know
They're all wrong
Starscream stopped and transformed, hovering, considering his
choices … oh it was so tough to decide! Yet … he knew, somehow,
Skyfire would understand …
The white jet looked up as he saw Starscream slowly land. His body tensed, but
he did not fire. His optics narrowed in suspicion … what was going on?
When the red jet landed, he refused to make optic contact with his old friend.
He merely stared at the ground, his hands behind his back, showing no sign to
want to attack.
“Starscream?” The scientist questioned. This was extremely odd.
Why was the red seeker here?
Wait …
Could it be?!
Skyfire relaxed, and then stood to his full height. Starscream still refused
to look at him.
“Starscream,” Skyfire said gently. “Look at me.”
The seeker hesitated. It was an order … and Starscream’s first thought
was to disobey, but … he found he could not. He looked up, and Skyfire
saw directly into his soul.
Hurt. Betrayal. The seeker … he had left Megatron! He had finally said
‘enough’
Skyfire opened his mouth slightly. Here he was, the seeker everyone but him
thought was dead. The scientist lived on in him … he’s finally who
he was again.
Moonlight on the soft brown earth
It leads me to where you lay
They took you away from me
But now I'm taking you home
Starscream could not bear to look away. His old friend’s gaze held no malice … no insecurities … no, he was the kind of person that he could tell his troubles to and still never fill him. The seeker trembled and finally broke his gaze, having it been mentally exhausting for him even though he did nothing. Skyfire walked nearer to him, and the seeker swayed, half thinking that he wanted to run, but he did not move. Skyfire stopped arm’s reach away from him, not saying a thing. Nothing needed to be said.
I will stay forever here with you
My friend
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death, our friendship goes on
The white jet wondered how crazy many had found his friendship with Starscream to be. He did not understand why they thought so, and he missed the red seeker terribly as much as Starscream had missed him. War had torn them apart …
Some say I'm crazy for my friendship
Oh my friend
But no bonds can hold me from your side
Oh my friend
They don't know you can't leave me
They don't hear you singing to me
Starscream finally looked up at Skyfire, and said softly, “I
… missed you …”
Skyfire knelt down to his level, and pulled the seeker to him. He fell against
him with a small ‘ooh!’, and Starscream almost melted in the embrace
… it had been so long since anyone had touched him in a caring manor that
he almost lost his self-control to break down crying. But he did not, but remained
frozen, in the arms of his only friend … the only one he had left.
He managed to choke out, “How can you forgive me? …”
Skyfire let him go and held him out at arm’s length. “You’ve
more that reconciled yourself in my optics, Starscream. You escaped him …
for that, I forgive you. You did well …”
I will stay forever here with you
My friend
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death, our friendship goes on
And I can't love you any more than I do
Starscream was shocked at such kindness.
Skyfire smiled. “I missed you too …”
Starscream couldn’t help himself. He flung his arms around Skyfire’s
neck sobbed quietly, not caring how silly he looked anymore … not caring
that he might look weak. He had proved that he was strong, and in his tears,
he knew that Skyfire understood, and that was enough for him.
I will stay forever here with you
My friend
The softly spoken words you gave me
Even in death, our friendship goes on
And I can't love you any more than I do
Skyfire smiled at the seeker. He could for give him for his sins,
because he had just proven that he was sorry. He was not dead as he had thought
… and thank Primus for that. He broke off the embrace and said, “The
symbol …”
Starscream tore them off impatiently before Skyfire had even finished the question.
Skyfire looked at him in surprise, and he said, “What?”
Skyfire laughed, and Starscream soon joined in … a new dawn indeed …
Darling, real friendship is forever
