| Hello! My name is Amy Johnson and welcome to Downtown's Guidance and Counseling site! My job is very cool and I stay busy to say the least. I assist in identifying and meeting individual and school-wide student needs. This is accomplished by following the American School Counselor Association's data driven model. At Downtown, our Guidance & Counseling mission is to facilitate the development of student competencies in areas of academic, social/personal and career domains. The counseling curriculum is delivered to all students through individual, small and large group sessions as well as school-wide activities. Our school incorporates a team approach in which all school personnel, parents and community work together to enhance the success of each student. Our students will be prepared for their roles as well adjusted life-long learners and productive citizens. In addition to continued professional education, my qualifications include 15 years of teaching, and State Certification in School Counseling. I earned my Masters and Educational Specialist Degrees in Guidance and Counseling from Troy State University. This is my ninth year as a school counselor and have been fortunate enough to have been at Downtown for all nine of these years. In November of 2007, I won Elementary School Counselor of the Year for Muscogee County and Elementary School Counselor of the year for Region 5. I am married to my best friend Rick. We have two beautiful cat children,Trouble and Smoochie. My personal interests include creating water gardens, photography, floating the creek and hanging out with friends and family. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me! Respectfully, Amy Johnson / School Counselor |
