Testing Tips
Test anxiety is an uneasiness experienced before, or after an exam because of worry, concern or fear. Almost everyone experiences some anxiety. Some students find that anxiety interferes with their learning to such an extent that their grades are seriously affected.
Some anxiety is good. It helps keep you "pumped" for the test. The key is to keep anxiety at manageable levels.

Four big factors go into becoming "Test Friendly".

1. Be prepared. Go to class. Keep up with studies so you do not "cram" at the last minute. Know when the test will be given and what information will be covered on the test. Learn how to take good notes. Make flash cards and reveiw them often, on the bus, on the way to the ball game...In general  well organized, self confident students with effective study habits spend less time studying than those who make lower grades!

2. Be Self-Confident. Research shows that the SELF-TALK of test-anxious students almost always tends to be negative and self-defeating. "Everyone else is smarter than I am." "I always mess up on tests." Rewrite negative thoughts and dispute each one with a positive statement. Another technique is to close your eyes and visualize yourself doing well and reaching your goals. Draw a picture of yourself sitting at the desk filling in the correct responses to the questions. Don't compare yourself to others! Think about a reward for yourself after the test.

3.Work on the Physical aspect. Breathe and relax! Drink plenty of water daily. Stay away from caffine and sugar before the test! Breathe and relax! Eat cheese and fruit for snacks and for breakfast the morning of the test . Breathe and relax! For several days before the test get at least 8 hours of sleep. Did I mention Breathe and relax?

4.During the test. Read directions! Take your time! Start with the easiest questions first. If you get stumped, mark it, move on and come back later. Focus on the test. Don't worry about everyone else. Don't change answers... unless you are 100% sure. Think of the exam as  a game... like Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, Have fun!
