Still the Bungles
by Spaen - Thursday, October 27
Chad Johnson has a lot to cry about now.  One of the biggest games in franchise history for the Bengals came and went last Sunday as they tried to define themselves as a Super Bowl contender once again after a very, very, very, very long layoff.  With all the momentum of the early season, Marvin Lewis still couldn't get them to not be called the "Bungles."  And until that major breakthrough game comes this millenium, the "Bungles" they shall stay.

With all the problems in Minnesota, they finally had a pulse in the second half against Green Bay.  Coming back from a 17-0 deficit, Daunte Culpepper finally looked like his old self from last year, even got the TD celebration going again.  It definitely has been an odd year for the Vikings, since they're actually starting a season horribly instead of dominating like they have in the past years with Mike Tice. His job is safe for now, but if they weren't in the NFC North, you might have to say different.
Football game or Def Leopard concert?  You decide.
This just in...Seattle can catch the ball.  At least defensively.  Another very sloppy performance from the Dallas offense really puts the question mark on Drew Bledsoe, but the major positive was shutting down Shaun Alexander.  Unfortunately Dallas loses another close one, and is glad to leave the West Coast with a just barely  1-2 record.  The Giants also pulled the hearts out of Denver fans everywhere with Eli Manning's brilliant second half to pull the "upset."  You can't deny Manning's breakthrough performance of winning a game in the clutch, and to keep that home record unblemished.  San Diego once again remains the disappointment, even though they are the best 3-4 looking team in probably the history of the NFL.  A bad call at the end of the game that led to a Chargers turnover while getting into field goal position made Philly escape with a win, keeping pace with the brilliant NFC East.  And people said the only thing good about the NFL was the AFC.
OTHER THINGS WE LEARNED LAST SUNDAY/MONDAY:
Michael Vick still can't throw the football ... So much for Kerry Holcomb's savior-like talk after the sorry loss to Oakland ... Which team really is worse?  Houston was able to hang around with Indy until halftime, while Green Bay got shut down in the second half by...the Vikings?  ... Brunell pretty much had his best game as QB in his career last week against the 49ers, but then again, who won't? ... The NFC North went 3-1 last week, with the leading teams at 3-3.  Somehow, that seems illogical ... Trent Dilfer needed to retire 5 years ago ... So did Brett Farve ... After the 49ers traded Tim Rattay to the Bucs, Alex Smith sustained a knee injury.  Now Ken Dorsey will face off against the team Tim Rattay was traded to.  If Chucky was smart, he'd start Rattay at Monster Park--he had his best games there so far.
"Now I don't want any crying after we kick the shit out of you."
