Olympian Review - Week 1
by Spaen - Sunday, February 19
Welcome to a special review of the first week of the Olympics in Torino.  I will guide your way through the things that I consider important in the Olympics.  If I stopped here, I'm pretty sure all of you would understand...
All joking aside of how the Olympics suck this year (well, as everyone is saying)...actually no, I'm not done.  That's basically the only part of the Olympics.

Why do the Olympics suck?
The ratings are very futile.  All the ratings come from primetime programming, and all NBC has shown on there is figure skating, ice dancing, speed skating, luge, and extremely bad interviews.  That even makes me want to watch American Idol...or porn.

Everything in primetime (and most of the afternoon stuff) on NBC is delayed.  You can get all the information about the winners and Bodes on the internet.

The medal count is misleading.  It should be a point system.  Golds are 3, silver 2, bronze 1.  If that was the case, the US would be leading.  Norway is underachieving with 2 golds and the rest silver and bronze.

US teams haven't been that wonderful in hockey and curling, which seem to be the only sports presented live...most of the time.
Why will Week 2 be better?
Curling and hockey enter their main tournaments.  Women's hockey will already have their bronze and gold finals on Monday.  This may be the US's only chance at a medal in these entire events.

To find out if Bode Miller really is a chump.

Primetime coverage should be better, with more skiing action, like the jump and alpine.

Everything is in repeats besides American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, and The Shield.

Okay, so it's struggling to find things that will be better, but they only happen every other year, so make the best of it.  Let's go the Curling and Hockey reviews!

Men's hockey has been the most surprising event in the Olympics.  Canada and US came in as their group's favorites, and figured to win most if not all of their games.  The Czech Republic would probably be Canada's biggest problem and Russia would be the US's.  Canada has been on a recent funk, losing their last two games.  The US has no offense whatsover, and blown most of their opportunities to score.  For example, in today's game against Sweden, the US had 2 5-on-3 against Sweden in the 2nd period, and didn't score on either opportunity.  The only time the US has looked really good was the first period against Kazakhstan...but that's Kazakhstan.  Canada is a lock for the tourney, but the US needs help.  If the US loses and Lativa wins, both of them will be in a tie for 4th, and it depends on how many points the team scores in their games Tuesday since both of them tie with 9 as of now.  The US must beat or tie Russia to lock 4th.  That's asking for a lot.  It shouldn't matter anyway, as all the other 7 teams that have locked their way into the tournament are lightyears ahead of this team and Latvia.

The US: Men and Women
US Women: 2-6 (9th place) eliminated
US Men: 6-2 (2nd place) clinched tourney berth
The US women, although the most nicest looking group of the countries, failed to do anything in Torino.  The US men, led by studs Pete Fenson and Shawn Rojecski have really rebounded from their 1-2 start, and haven't lost one since.  They certainly know how to score, but the problem is they can't have these other teams score like them.  The US men are very aggresive, and will go for the trick shots to either make or break them.  Luckily, if it ever breaks them, they find away to glue it all back together, and get the victory.  The US men will try to be the first team to bring home the gold for the first time in Curling...and they have a very good shot at it.
