Paving project foreman dies when hit by dump truck

Ken Alcombrack, 34, of Wenatchee, died at Harborview Hospital in Seattle Thursday evening, after he was run over by a dump truck on Okanogan Avenue near Ferry Street earlier that morning.

Alcombrack, foreman on a paving project, was apparently painting lines on the street, near the rear passenger side of a Morrill Asphalt truck about 8:15 a.m., Wenatchee police reported.

He called driver Francis Leishman, 57, of Fast Wenatchee, over the radio and asked him to stop the truck, police said. But the driver did not see Alcombrack move from the driver side to the passenger side, where he bent over.

Moving forward, the truck knocked Alcombrack to the ground and ran him over. The driver stopped when he saw the injured man on the ground, police reported.

Alcombrack, a 15-year Wenatchee resident, was taken to Central Washington Hospital with lower abdominal injuries, police reported. He left the hospital that afternoon for Harborview, where he later died, Central administrators said.
