| This movement was popular in the mid 1900s. It was dedicated in expressing the imagination as revealed in dreams, free of conscious control of reason and convention. It was influenced by emerging theories on our perception of reality, such as Freud's model of the subconscious. Surrealism was founded in Paris in 1924 by Andre Breton. The purpose of the movement was to resolve the previously contradicory conditions of dream and reality into an absolute reality, a super reality. Major artists of the movement include Marcel Duchamp, Georgia O'Keefe, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, and MC Escher. |
