| Romanticism emerged in the early 1800s as a reaction to Neoclassicism. It is an individualistic, beautiful, exotic, and emotional type of style. Great artists of the movement included J.M.W. Turner, Caspar David Friedric, John Constable, and William Blake. The movement took place in both Europe and the United States. The leading Romantic movement in the U.S. being the Hudson River School of dramatic landscape painting. |
