Modernism
Modernism took place from 1890 to 1940.  It was a departure from the traditional use of the innovative forms of expression often used in many styles of the late nineteenth and twentieth century.  The movement is known for its interest in new types of paints and other materials, in expressing and feeling ideas, in creating abstractions and fantasies, rather than representing what is real.  Paul Cezanne is often considered the "Father of Modernism", and another famous artist of the movement includes Edouard Manet.
