Expressionism
Expressionism was an art movement that began in 1905 and lasted until 1925.  It often used distortation and exaggeration for emotional effect and is characterized by intense colour, agitated brushstrokes, and disjointed space.  Expressionists instead of depicting objective reality, tried to depict subjective emotions.  They did this through the vivid, jarring, violent, or dynamic application of formal elements.  Some important artists of the movement include Georges Rouault, Oskar Kokoschka, Franz Marc, and Edvard Much.
