| Safe jumping Never do huge tricks off of jumps you are not familiar with, and never go big on jumps with flat landings. The steeper the landing the safer the jump. Make sure you feel comfortable with the jump before you go big. Especially when flipping, wait for that perfect jump or powder day. Never do a back flip your first time off a jump. You should also get professional training before you try inverted tricks. Study Videos and read up on how to do tricks properly before your try them. Here are some videos of some more advanced tricks. A tabletop is a jump with a take-off and a landing. If you do not land on the landing you will get hurt. Most serious injuries to skiers and snowboarders while jumping occur because they miss the landing of a tabletop or spine. Too much speed can be very dangerous. Always check the speed on a jump that you don't know well and always make your first jump a straight air (no tricks). Use a rock or tree as a reference point so that you know where to start to get the right amount of speed to hit the landing perfectly. Helmets are a good idea and can definitely prevent head injuries. If you're going to do technical stuff like gap jumps or cliffs make sure you know what's under the snow on that landing before you jump. Never rush a jump and if you have any doubts, walk away. |
