Walking Log August 2002        Heir Island
25th August - a large group spent a great day on Heir Island. Walking down the lanes we were delighted by the quiet countryside, dotted with small, mostly holiday cottages, ancient hedgerows and beautiful beaches that reminded us of our childhood.

Some of the beaches were busy with boatloads of people from Baltimore, but others were deserted and demanded old fashioned beachcombing and meditation.
Friendly locals told us that there are just 12 people living there year round now.
Like Sherkin, the hedgerows were a delight, although here on Heir they were less spectacular, but close inspection yielded dividends such as the Six Spotted Burnett Moth
Tim tells me the lunch spot was called Paris (pronounced with the "a" as in "far"). I think Mike thought he was in heaven!
