Nicole DeMeo "Hey Little Walter review" comp. 3 10/2/01
Hey Little Walter was written b Carla Debbie Alleyne, a high school student. It is an off Broadway production shown in the Bella theater. Hey Little Walter is a well-written play and was very well acted. I enjoyed watching the performance. I also recommend this play to just about every audience.
They play is about a teenager, Walter, with a best friend named Rakim. Walter has/had a "gold digger" girlfriend named Nicky. Somehow, Walter and Rakim get involved in drug dealing. Walters little brother, Albert, takes after Walter and becomes a drug dealer as well. The scene I liked the best was when we saw Walters change in attitude towards his values. It shows how a little peer-pressure can cause drastic changes in behavior, wants, needs and also friends. Money was also starting to get to his head.
Hey Little Walter, as I said earlier was very well written. For a high school student, she has a lot to look forward to in the play writing business. The actors in the production seemed to be hand picked by the writer herself because of the way that they took in their roles. It is very hard to be a drug dealer when your really not. The actor who played Walter was John Rosenberg and did a stupendous job with all his enthusiasm and expressions. Terri Smith played Nicky, Michael Plott played Rakim, and George Flask played Albert. All theses people really made the production look how it was supposed to look.
To me, Hey Little Walter was one of the best off Broadway productions I have ever seen. I would recommend this play to teenagers and probably parents or guardians of teenagers as well. It will give these people a better understanding of what kind of a world we live in. It will also make people actually think about their lives and what they value. This play shows how people can change because of one single act that you might think be a one time thing, but will progress and progress into bigger and more risk taking events. This play is a bunch of life lessons in which I recommend you go learn about them.
