Type: General, a cute Alex story
Alex’s eye opened slowly, and he yawned
seeing the sun already shining brightly. He stood up, not bothering to pull up
his hanging socks as he padded downstairs to see Rick and Evelyn sitting in
their robes eating a quiet breakfast.
"Morning darling." Evie
chirped, and Alex merely shrugged as Rick grumbled. Neither one of them were
morning people, while Evie was up every day at the crack of dawn.
"I hate mornings. Why can’t I
sleep all day?"
"Well, if you recall young man, I
didn’t wake you up." Evelyn ruffled his already trussed up hair, and
walked over to the stove. "What would you like for breakfast?"
"Anything that isn’t still
moving." He mumbled with his forehead resting on the table, making Rick
chuckle into his coffee mug.
Even at a young age of six, Alex had
definite amounts of humor and personality. Evie laid a plate of scrambled eggs
mixed with cheese, hash browns, and a slice of toast down in front of him as he
picked his head up, lifted his fork and dug in.
"Are you going to the museum with
me today?" She questioned lightly, looking up from her morning paper.
"It depends, when are we
leaving?"
"As soon as we both get
ready."
"Nope." He spoke through eggs
and Evie frowned at him. "Don’t really feel like doing too much today, I’ll
just stay here with dad."
"All right, but you have to behave
yourself." She kissed his forehead, leaving to go get ready for work.
"After she leaves, do you think we
can go back to bed?" He looked up at Rick, seeing his father grin down at
him.
"I see no problem with that."
He laughed and finished his coffee. "We can even sleep in our room."
He winked and Alex slowed his breakfast down.
"I’m off you two, be good."
She kissed Alex on the cheek as he squirmed to get away, and Rick on the lips
as he pulled her closer.
"Gross, stop it." Alex
groaned, closing his eyes and covering them with his hands.
Alex grabbed his toast after Evie had
left, biting into it as he felt something pop.
"Ah!" He cried, dropping the
buttered bread onto the floor as he held his mouth, making Rick jump.
"What? Did you bite your tongue
again?" He asked as Alex shook his head, then moved his tongue over to his
sore tooth. It wiggled. It actually wiggled, and Alex freaked out.
"THERE’S SOMETHING IN MY MOUTH
MAKING MY TOOTH WIGGLE!" He screamed, clamping his jaws together.
"What? Let me see." He opened
his son’s mouth, and saw the culprit. A loose baby tooth, Alex’s first, and it
was hanging by a thread.
"Son, there isn’t anything wrong.
You just have a loose tooth. It’s common for kids your age, it’s almost gone,
want me to pull it out?"
"Are you crazy? You’re going to
pull my tooth out?" He jumped away from Rick, knocking the chair backward
as he sprang away from the table.
"Ya. It’ll come right out, you won’t
even feel it." He promised, and stood up with a smile.
"Oh no, I remember when Uncle John
had his tooth pulled by Dr. Shroeder! I know how much pain he was in, you’re
not coming anywhere near my tooths!" He pointed at his father, making Rick
laugh.
"Alex, you’re putting too much
into it. It’s hanging by a thread, you won’t even feel a thing!" He
grabbed his son, holding him in a vise with one arm while pinching his thumb
and pointer finger together with his other. "Come on, open up."
Alex shut his mouth tight, squeezing
his lips together. "Hmm-mmm." He mumbled, making Rick frown.
"Fine. Let it stay there forever.
Just so you know, the longer it stays inside your mouth, it’ll attach to your
brain nerves and when you do pull it, you’ll pull a part of your brain out with
it." Rick said calmly, walking back to his paper and breakfast.
"My brain?" Alex whispered to
himself, holding his head in one hand and his jaw in another he frowned.
"No sir! You’re just telling me that to get me to pull it out!" He
cried, his eyes huge at the thought of pulling his brain out with a tooth.
"I think." He mumbled, walking up the staircase to get dressed.
"I hope."
Later that night, Evelyn got home from
the museum tired, and ready to spend a night by the fire with her family.
Instead, Alex screamed and ran into her arms as she heard Rick from the other
room.
"Alex, stop being such a
baby!" He held pliers in his hand as he grinned, stalking his child. He
stopped cold when he saw Evie at the front door with Alex on her leg, her hands
on her hips tapping her foot.
"What on earth is going on in
here?"
"Dad is going to pull out my
brains!" Alex cried and buried his face into her skirt.
"Oh really?"
"No! He has a loose tooth, and I
was going to…."
"Pry it out?" She scolded,
and Rick nodded as she knelt down next to her baby, taking her into her arms.
"Dad should get a time out."
Alex growled, wrapping his arms around mum’s neck, clinging to her.
"That’s a wonderful idea
Alex." She stood and took the pliers from Rick; pushing him into the
corner, and making him sit facing the wall. "You have a three minute
time-out for scaring Alex, I’ll come get you when it’s over." She grinned
down at Rick’s shocked face, but he humored her by sitting and staring at the
wall while she took Alex to the kitchen and sat him down.
"May I see your loose tooth?"
She asked gently, and Alex smiled nodding. He opened his mouth wide, and Evie
saw the extremely loose tooth hanging on merely by nothing. "May I touch
it?" He nodded again, giving his mum his complete trust.
Evie reached into his mouth and gave a
tiny tug, freeing it from the gum.
"What did you do, poke it?"
Alex questioned, not even knowing it was out until he tasted blood and prodded
the area with his tongue.
Evie held the miniature tooth in her
hand as he looked at it.
"AHH! You pulled it out!" He
cried, holding his head. "There went my brains!" He began to cry,
throwing himself into her arms as she sat shocked, rocking him back and forth
against her.
"What do you mean honey?"
"Dad! He told me that the longer I
keep the tooth in my mouth, my brain will stick to it and pull out when I got
rid of it!" He sobbed, making Rick flinch as he still sat in the corner,
listening to his son tell all.
He stood up and walked to his chair,
sitting down heavily as he grabbed a book to read.
"That’s not true baby, you can’t
pull your brain out with a tooth. You’ll get grown up teeth after you get rid
of all your little ones. It’ll take a while, you’ll lose them one at a time,
but I promise you that you won’t lose any of your brain to a loose tooth."
She reassured her son and he nodded, sniffling as he wiped his nose on the back
of his hand. "Why don’t you go upstairs and play."
Evelyn stood at the doorway, watching
her husband pretend he didn’t know she was there. "That was awful
Rick." She mumbled, sitting next to him.
"It was a good plan that backfired.
I told him that so he’d let me pull the tooth quickly, hoping it would make him
want to get rid of it." He laughed, pulling her into his arms.
"No harm done." She smiled,
handing him the baby tooth as she stood to get changed from her work clothes.
Rick smiled down at the little tooth
and walked into his den. He opened up his memory drawer, and dropped the tooth
into a corner, closing it and walking from the room.
The End
Authors note: Thought I’d write a cute
little story about Alex’s first loose tooth.
