Disclaimer: I went to Sommer's house to
ask for a part of the movie, but then I got turned out. So I went to Morocco to
where the filming was, to go see if I could get a part of the movie there.
Well, I managed to get a cute little Brendan Frasier (Barbie -er- Ken) doll
from one of the nearby shops. But I'm afraid I came home empty handed. Alas, I
do not own any part of the movie's characters or anything to do with them, I'm
just borrowing. But you guys have to read quick, cause Sommers doesn't know I'm
borrowing them and if I don't have them back by Thursday there might be some
sort of law action taken toward this!

Summary: Evie's birthday is coming up
soon and Alex doesn't know what to get her…. Du du dummmmm will he find a
present, will he find a present????
(set after TMR, how long after… I don't
know, probably just the next year or so)
The boy had one week left, one measly
week. Alex figured he'd just buy his mum a present, that's what Uncle Jon and
dad did every year and she seemed fine with it? He now sat on his bed, awaiting
the morning ritual, his mum would come in to see him and wake him up before she
went off to the museum to deal with the new Antiquities that were coming in
every day. Ever since Ahm-Shere and all of the fuss over Evelyn's new findings,
the Museum seemed to have a new class. His mother was so much more busy now
with work, it was hard to get some alone time with her.
"Alex?" Evelyn called out to
her boy as she opened the door and headed to the window to open the drapes.
"Ah, you're awake. Are you alright? I usually can never wake you up in the
morning." She asked with concern.
"No, I'm alright, just
thinking." Alex said as his mother bent over to kiss him. "Mum?"
He asked her.
"Yes darling," She responded
while picking up one of his 'Egyptian Artifact' Books, ever since last year he
has had more of an interest in Egyptology.
"What do you want for your
birthday?" He asked, truthfully.
"I want you to be a good boy, and
keep you room neat and tidy." She answered as she stepped over Alex's
latest model; his dirigible ship.
Evelyn then left the room, Alex sat and
thought some more. Well, that was an easy enough answer for him. But that just
wasn't the answer he was looking for. Rick then came into his room. Rick was
usually the one who would have to wake Alex up the second time after his
mother, because the boy was prone to succumbing to slumber after Evelyn left.
"Hello big guy!" Rick said in
a cheery voice. "How about you get up right now and we'll go have a little
game of catch before breakfast, hmmm?"
"Alright!" Alex exclaimed as
he quickly jumped off his bed and ran to his dresser to get his clothes.
Alex came bounding down the stairs in
his socked feet, he slid across the checkered patterned tile flooring and swung
into the kitchen where his dad sat and waited. The two went outside into the
back lawn to play catch with a baseball and two gloves.
"Dad? What should I get mum for
her birthday?" Alex asked as they passed the ball to one another.
"Why don't you just be a good
boy?" Rick suggested.
"No! That's what mom said! Do you
think I could go get her something for her birthday? I mean buy her something,
like you and Uncle Jon?" The boy asked.
"Why sure! How about, after your
mother leaves, we will go to town and I'll let you pick out her present?"
Rick suggested.
"Alright." Alex agreed, he
kind of knew what he wanted to get his mother.
After Evelyn left for work, Alex ran up
to his room and over to his piggy bank. He opened up the bottom and pulled out
all of his money. He then ran back downstairs to where his father sat in the
study.
"Dad! Come on." Alex cried
out to Rick who was reading the paper.
"What? Oh, yes I remember. Go ask
your Uncle Jonathan if he wants to come, and then we'll be on our way."
Alex ran up to Uncle Jonathan's room
and burst inside, his Uncle was sitting on one of his couches listening to
music. "UNCLE. JOHN!" Alex had to shout because of the volume of the
music.
Jonathan turned it down and then
addressed Alex, "Yes?" He asked.
"Dad wants to know if you want to
come with us to town?" Alex asked.
"Sure, I'll come, I have some
stuff to pick up for the party anyway." Jonathan said.
"What party?" Alex asked.
"Your mother's birthday party, you
do know her birthday is in a week, don't you?" HE asked surprised.
"Yes, that's why we are going to
town, I'm going to buy mum a present with my own money!" Alex said quite
proud of himself.
"What are you going to get
her?" Jonathan asked as he put on a pair of socks.
"Can't tell, it's a secret."
"Oh, I see, one of those secret
special presents, eh?" Jonathan and Alex then proceeded to the front of
the Manor, to the front door.
The three guys then got in the car and
headed toward town, while in the car, Alex tried his luck "Dad, can I shop
by myself? I want mum's present to be a surprise."
"Well…" Rick pondered "I
guess… if you promise to be good, I don't see any harm in letting you shop by
yourself." He answered.
"Awesome! Thanks dad!" Alex
cried out.
They pulled up in front of one of those
All-in-One stores. "Alright, Alex," Rick said to his son when they
got out of the car. "You can only go in here, and I want you to meet your
Uncle Jon and I at the car in one hour. Kapeesh?" He asked with a stern
look on his face.
"I have no idea what that last
word meant, but OK" Alex said with a sly grin on his face. This brought a
smile to Rick.
"Go on, get outta here." He
said as he lead Alex in the direction of the door.
Alex scampered off to the arts and
crafts section. He immediately went to the glue and grabbed about three 2 liter
bottles of it. He then went over to the paint section and got some yellow, gold
and silver paint. He then decided to go back to the front to get a cart, this
stuff was getting heavy.
After he got his cart he went to the
very back of the store, where all of the new stuff comes in. He asked one of
the people who worked there and they got him a few heavy duty cardboard boxes
and put them on his cart. He now had everything that he needed. Except for one
more thing that he would get at home.
He went up and paid for the stuff. But
now Alex had a lot of money left over, and a craving for candy. So he felt that
he should go spend the rest of his twenty dollars on sweets.
An hour later, Rick walked over to the
car with Jonathan. He was happy to see Alex waiting there for them like he was
told to. But he wasn't so happy at finding the boy filling up on candy and
chocolate.
"Alex" Rick asked "What
have you got there?"
"Oh, don't worry dad, I've got
enough for everyone, here uncle Jon." The boy said as he passed his uncle
a bag of licorice.
"Oooh, thanks buddy" Jonathan
said as he pulled out a piece and ate it.
Rick just sighed, there wasn't anything
he could do now that Jonathan has instigated the eating of sweets.
"dad, can you put this in the
trunk?" Alex was referring to the heavy duty cardboard that was almost as
big as he was.
"What are you going to do with
that?" Rick started. "I don't want you making another cardboard
house, you know what happened to the last one."
"I know, I know, this isn't for a
cardboard house, it's… a school project." Alex said very quickly.
"Oh, alright, well then, anything
else you need?" Rick asked puzzled, he hadn't heard of any school project
being assigned.
"Well, could you drop me off at
mum's work for the rest of the day?" Alex asked.
"Um, alright, but you have to be
good." Rick said looking at Alex sternly. "What did you get your
mother for her birthday, anyway?" He then asked.
"Dad! You know I can’t tell you!
It's a secret." Alex cried out, a little too loud. All of the people
walking down the side walk stopped and stared at the two. Rick looked around
embarrassed. The three then got into the car.
The car ride to the museum was a noisy
one. Between Jonathan slurping up long pieces of licorice, and Alex chewing on
toffee things were starting to sound a little uncivilized.
"There you go, you know where your
mother is right?" Rick asked as he let Alex out of the car.
"Dad! I've only been coming here
all my life." Alex responded, quite offended at the question.
Alex came walking up to his mum's
office, he slowly made his way to her door. He noticed ahead of time that it
was slightly ajar, so he figured he's make the best of the situation.
Evelyn was sitting at her desk with her
head in some paper work. Alex quietly made his way to her door until he was
pressed right up against it.
He then jumped into the room, bursting
open the door and shouting "HI MUM!"
Evelyn surely didn't expect this, she
jumped a foot out of her seat and screamed. "Alex! What are you doing
here?" She asked afterward.
"I wanted to visit you. Is that
OK? If not I can go look at some of the new Egyptian wings." Alex
basically insisted.
"OH no, honey, that's OK. I'd love
your company." Evelyn said as she sat back down.
"No, you look busy… I'll just go
then." Alex said and left before his mum could object.
He had a bag with him that he brought
to the new Egyptian exhibition. He made his way to the giant miniature size
pyramid that was on display. This display was supposed to show you what the
actual pyramid and its surroundings looked like. So there was plenty of sand
all around the base of the structure. Alex made sure no one was looking, then
he ducked under the red velvet rope that was supposed to keep people from going
to the display.
Alex took out his bag and started to
fill it with sand when he heard footsteps coming toward him. He thought about
ducking back under the rope to where he was supposed to be. But he would look
pretty suspicious with a bag of sand in his hand. So he decided to hide behind
the pyramid.
The person coming over was Evelyn, she
decided to go look for Alex to spend some quality time with him. She figured
she could get her paper work done later.
"Abdul, Mohhamed?" She asked
when she heard shifting noises. For some reason it sounded like it was coming
from the pyramid display. "Alex? Are you over there?" She asked when
she heard crumpling noises.
Alex knew he was caught, so he might as
well make the best of the situation, he quickly scooped some more sand into the
bag, tied it up, then left it behind the pyramid. He then jumped out
"HI!" He cried out, scarring his mom again.
"Alex! You know you're not
supposed to be there! Get out right now, before someone sees you." She
insisted as she pulled him over to the rope. "What were you doing there
anyway?"
"Umm," He didn't think about
this. "I saw some sand, um over in the wrong place. And so I decided to
rearrange it so that it looked good." He lied.
"Well, what do you say we go get
some lunch?" Evelyn asked.
"Sure, you go get your coat and I
will stay here and wait." Alex said as he pointed his mom in the direction
from which she came.
When she was out of sight, and probably
earshot, he went back under the rope to retrieve his bag. There was no where
for him to put it though, so he decided to hide it in his coat. He put the
large bag inside the front of his coat and zipped it up. It didn't look too
bad? Even for a four pound bag of sand, right?
Evelyn then came back, she was talking
about which restaurant she wanted to try. She didn't notice Alex's new weight
until she stopped right in front of him and almost bumped into his over grown
stomach. She starred at him with an astonished look on her face.
"What?" Alex asked
defensively.
"Nothing." Evie said as she
shook her head a little, she really needed to get out more.
After lunch Alex decided to take the
bus home and Evelyn went back to the museum.
He was still very hungry even after the
lunch. Evelyn had insisted the he eat a plain salad for some reason. When he
got on the bus he unzipped his coat and finally was able to pull out the sand.
To his dismay, one of the buttons on his shirt had punctured the bag and there
was now sand ever so slowly leaking all over him and down his pants.
When Alex got home he went right up to
his room to change. He then found all of his supplies and took them out back to
his tree fort. He also needed some paint brushes and a pair of scissors, which
he got. He started at his work, cutting out four large triangles and a square.
Taking the large brush and spreading glue on one side of each triangle and then
dumping on sand.
He continued on his work until his dad
finally came out to look for him. Alex quickly jumped out of the fort to greet
his dad. He didn't want him to climb up into the fort to look for him. He might
see the present.
"Hi, bud. I didn't even know you
were home. It's almost dinner, so how about you go get washed up?" Rick
asked
"K, but don't go into my fort,
alright?" Alex asked.
Rick nodded his head, and then Alex ran
off.
Rick really wanted to go up there and
see what his son was doing, but then again. His word was his word.
After dinner Alex went up to his
parents room to go get the family photo album. He brought it to his room and
started pulling out pictures. There were a couple of Evelyn and Jonathan when
they were younger, he figured they would be good. There were lots of Alex and
his parents when he was a baby. There were a couple from past Birthday parties.
Which included one of Rick's face in a large chocolate cake, literally.
Alex got what he wanted then returned
the album. He then went downstairs to the kitchen where his mum was cleaning up
the dinner plates.
"Mum?" Alex asked.
"Yes Alex?"
"Can I have some pasta?"
"You just had dinner, it's too
late for more food."
"No, I mean dry, I want dry
pasta." He corrected.
"What for?" Evelyn asked
curious.
"My-er- collection. Yeah, my pasta
collection."
"Oh, alright." She pulled
down some of the large containers from a cupboard and gave Alex one of the
containers with lots of different shaped bow ties, noodles, and just weird
shapes. He figured they would work perfectly.
"Thanks mum!" The boy cried
out as he ran back up to his room.
Just then Rick and Jonathan came
walking into the kitchen with their drinks in hand and laughing.
"Rick?" Evelyn asked.
"Yeah?" Rick asked still
giggling at a joke Jonathan had told him.
"Has Alex been acting strange
lately? I mean, doing weird things?" She asked.
"Weird like?" Rick asked.
"Well, just today at the Museum I
caught him trying to rearrange the sand in the new Pyramid display, and just
now he asked me for some dry pasta for his collection." She answered with
a very concerned tone in her voice.
"Uh…" Rick started holding
back some more laughs, Jonathan had slunked away into another room to go laugh.
"Well, I think the sand thing is self explanitory, he got that form the
Carnahan side of the family, that would be you. As for the dried up pasta, I
don't know."
Jonathan then came back into the room,
he had obviously overheard the conversation. "Hey! I used to have a pasta
collection, does he have the little bow ties? Those were the hardest ones to
find."
Evelyn got a look of sheer horror on
her face. "Oh dear god," She whispered to herself. "I need to go
talk to Alex, excuse me a moment." She then headed up to Alex's room,
leaving Jonathan and Rick behind to laugh it up.
She knocked on the door, there was a
pause, just as she was about burst through, a voice sounded.
"Come in." Alex said.
Evelyn then walked into the room.
"Honey, I have something to ask you." She started, "You know,
sometimes you do some things that don't make sense, but that's OK. I'd like to
know why you are collecting pasta?"
Alex paused and looked at his mum, then
at the floor. "No reason," He solemnly said to the floor.
"Is there something you want to
tell me?" She asked.
"No" Alex quickly responded.
With that Evelyn got up, gave Alex a kiss and headed out the door. "Oh,
mum?" Alex asked.
Evelyn quickly turned around.
"What? What, um yes Alex?" She asked with her hopes up.
"Is it alright if I use a couple
of your pictures from the photo album?" The boy asked.
"Yes, I, I guess so?"
"Thanks" With that Evelyn
left.
The next day was a Sunday, Rick was
spending most of the day inside reading, and Evelyn was at the Museum.
Alex used this as his last day to work
on his 'project'. He brought the pasta and the pictures to the tree fort and
continued his work. A little paint here, a little glue there. He hoped his mom
didn't mind that he cut up the pictures?
Finally, he was done. The structure was
so big that he figured he would just leave it in the fort to stay for the week.
The week passed and Evelyn still
couldn't get through to her son. Rick and Jonathan were scarcely around either.
They both had things to do, people to see.
It was Saturday morning, Evelyn's
birthday. At about five o clock AM her and Rick were awoken by Jonathan and
Alex who came bounding into the room and onto the bed. Well, at least Alex came
onto the bed. Jonathan was holding a tray with complementary Birthday
breakfast. He also had an envelope.
Evelyn opened the envelope to find four
tickets to Egypt in it. "Oh no," Rick said "Not this
again!" Evie just looked at him and smiled, she then thanked her brother
with a hug and kiss.
Next Rick got out of bed and walked
over to his sock drawer, he came out with a small velvet box. Evelyn opened it
to find a Diamond ring, it had the same small pattern on it as her locket
necklace did. She thanked him with a hug and a kiss too.
Next Alex made his presence known with
a loud cough. "Well, aren't you going to say Happy Birthday to your
mother?" Rick asked.
"Yes, but not now, get dressed and
meet me in the backyard by my tree fort." Alex said, he then left the
room.
Fifteen minutes later Rick Evelyn and
Jonathan came downstairs all dressed and ready to see the big surprise. Alex
was already out in the backyard. He had a bed sheet hung over the structure,
there was a rope tied to the middle of the sheet that stretched up to a branch
of the tree fort and came back down to where Alex stood.
"What is this?" Evelyn asked.
Alex just put up a hand that told her to be quiet.
"Ahem-" He cleared his
throat. "Presenting, a gift to the bestest Egyptologist in the world. An
awesome mother and wife and friend. A great all around person who for her
birthday only deserves the best. A gift to my mother, Evelyn O'Connell!"
With that Alex pulled the rope with lifted the sheet up off the present.
Everyone gasped.
Sitting before them, being lit up by
the morning sun was a pyramid, a large one at that. It was almost the same
height as Alex. There was a layer of sand covering the whole structure. Along
the bottom were glued pieces of macaroni designed in intricate patterns and
painted gold. There were even four macaroni people at the bottom, Alex
explained that they were him, Rick Jonathan and Evie at Ahm-Shere.
One of the triangular sides folded
down, and inside the pyramid were little shelves and cupboards that held
pictures with home made frames. Each picture had something to do with the
O'Connell and Carnahan family. And inside the cupboard were very fine and
expensive chocolates, Evelyn's favorites.
By the time she saw everything she was
almost in tears, she couldn’t believe her little, well, big boy did this for
her. She was so happy that she picked Alex up and carried him half way across
the lawn, kissing and hugging him all the while.
Rick and Jonathan moved the pyramid to
the parlor, where it now sits on the grand piano, a memory of the O'Connell
Carnahan family, and the love that is in it.
Alright, now you've read it. It's not
an actual adventure and it doesn't have that extensive a plot to it. It just
keeps the O'Connell seat warm until someone decides to use it again. Please be
kind and Review, tell me what you thought! Thanks!
