Summary: I figure Alex being who he is, and who his parents are, would have had a pretty amazing entrance into the World. So without further to do this is the story of when he was born. Some of this is a little far fetched but go with the flow if you will please.

An Amazing Entry

Chapter 1: One more adventure.

It was a quiet day at the museum, and a hot day in Cairo. In her office sat Evelyn O'Connell, going over some artifacts from a recent dig down in Thebes. She felt hot and sticky, and her back ached, and her feet and ankles were swollen. She knew this is what happened to pregnant woman, but it didn't make it any easier to endure. To make things even more uncomfortable the baby in her belly began to move about, and she wondered exactly what he, or she was doing.

Putting down the piece of treasure she held she stood stretching which eased the ache in her back a little, then she looked down at her stomach

"Alright, I know your in there, but I need to get these things in order before we leave."

She rubbed a hand over her belly, and didn't notice Rick standing at the door watching her with great fondness. For him, her being pregnant made her that much more attractive, and he had told her as much, not that she believed him.

"Talking to yourself again?" he asked coming into the room.

She looked up startled.

"Don't sneak up on me, and for your information I was talking to our baby." she said smiling.

He came to her and put a hand on her tummy feeling the baby move about.

"That kid can really go." he said in amazement. "I came by to take you out to lunch."

Rick had been, from the very beginning of this pregnancy, the one to make sure she actually ate and rested. She was terrible at doing so on her own, always too wrapped up in whatever she found at the museum. She agreed to go with him, and went into the back room to tell her assistant Jack to keep an eye on things while they were gone. Not to far from the museum they sat down at a little

outdoor cafe. They ordered some fresh bread and tomatoes, and water for her to drink.

"Rick? I've been thinking that we should go help out at the dig they are doing up at the pyramids." Rick looked at her as though she were out of her mind.

"Your almost 9 months pregnant."

"Yes." She knew that well but didn't see his point

"I just think it best for us to stick close to home incase this baby decides to show up sooner rather than later. There will be other digs," he said, trying to make her see his point

"Honestly Rick woman have been having babies from the beginning of time, and if your worried about that, then we can just get Becky to come with us."

Becky was her friend from England who also had parents who where Archeologists. She was a midwife, here in Cairo, and would be the one to help Evelyn bring this baby into the world. Rick knew that there was no way to sway her from this, so he reluctantly agreed for them to go.

Chapter 2: Opps

The first morning the O'Connells were on the dig arrived quickly. They had spent the night in a tent, on Cots moved next to one another, and Jonathan, who had decided to come along as well, had a tent next to theirs. Now around a fire, they had breakfast, and Evelyn looked over some of the diagrams that the workers had drawn, of the inside of the Pyramids. They were there to find a underground

treasure chamber. It was not as grand as the one they had found at Hamunaptra, but the discover would tell them more about Seti's time, and to Evelyn, that was too much to pass up.

"So, any idea of where you want to start out today?" Rick asked his wife.

She was looking at the diagram of one of the larger chambers in the Pyramid, that they were closest too, the one in the center of the other two.

"I think this chamber would be a good starting point. I'm fairly certain that the only way to the treasure chamber will be a false wall of some sort," She said eating the last bite of her eggs.

Becky came out of her tent, and came to sit with her friends, asking Evelyn how she felt today.

"Good, no back aches, and for the most part this little one," she said, as she rubbed a hand on her belly, "has been very quiet.

"Do you mind if I examine you before you start, to make sure nothings going on?"

Evelyn excused herself, and Rick got up easing her into standing,, then the two ladies disappeared inside one of their tents.

"I wish you could have talked her out of this," Jonathan admitted to Rick. He loved his baby sister ,dearly, but worried about her, and the baby.

"Becky will convince her not to work, if there's a problem," Rick said picking up their plates to clean up. He was also worried, but because he loved Evelyn he let her make her own choices, and this was important to her, so it was also important to him. In a moment, the two ladies rejoined the group, and Becky said all was well.

Later inside the pyramid, Evelyn was busy dusting off some of the walls, reading hieroglyphs in order to find any evidence, or clues, as to where the treasure chamber was. They had all been in the large chamber for almost 3 hours, and Rick came over to where his wife was working.

"I thought I would go out and get us some water," He said.

"That sounds good," He could tell she was tired.

"Maybe we should take a break?" He suggested. She stopped brushing off things and turned to him, gently kissing him.

"Just let me do a little more and I will come and rest," she promised. He gave her another kiss, then went out of the chamber, leaving her to her work. Evelyn brushed off a part of wall that had a crevice going in a circle. The hieroglyphs here were faded, and she needed more light.

"Jonathan, would you bring me that torch."

Her brother came and held it up for her ,so she could read. Even with the added light, she could not make out what they said, and being who she was, which was a curios sort she pushed in on the circle. The floor, which she and Jonathan were standing on slid open, sending both of them down some sort of ancient shoot. The floor above them closed, and the circle on the wall came back out. Going down the shute, Jonathan was holding for dear life to the torch keeping

the flame out of harms way. He heard Evelyn in front of him let out a grunt, then he bumped into her.

"Are you all right," he asked, concerned. She was laying back, but felt fine

"I think so, let me have the torch." Jonathan was laying sideways with the torch pointed up the shoot. He handed her the torch, and in a moment their eyes adjusted to a site almost a grand as the one they had found at Hamunaptra. Both of them stood, Evie with Jonathan's help, and looked around them at the grand splendor of the treasure.

"Its all ours," Jonathan said in a trance like state. Evelyn shook her head.

"Not all, the Government will want most of it," she said .

The Government had been the ones to fund the dig, but she knew that they wouldn't go away empty handed, and she hoped that most of this would go to the museum. Both of them branched off from one another, and Evelyn looked at various statues of dog faced warriors, Anubis warriors, then of some finer things. Jonathan had his eye on a jeweled box of some sort. It was the most beautiful artifact he had ever found. While he starred at it, he didn't notice that Evelyn

had stopped, and was taking in some breaths. She felt some contractions that were much different from the mild ones she had been having for the past week. After a few seconds they subsided, but she knew this was the real deal. She walked over to Jonathan and took his arm.

"Jonathan," she said. He was still fixed on the jeweled box. "Yes Evie."

"I don't want you to panic, but I think this baby is going to be born today." He was still looking at the box ,not quite hearing her. "Thats.." Then it sunk in and he turned to her, eyes very big.

"Now?" She smiled

"Not at this exact moment, but we need to start finding a way out, otherwise its going to be me you and thats all." Jonathan did panic then, running around the chamber frantic. While he did that , Evelyn experienced another contraction, the same intensity, which was mild, but for a little bit longer. Jonathan noticed, and something in him realized that he was going to have to calm down, to keep her calm. She breathed in and out a few more times then relaxed. Jonathan took off his jacket and laid it down on the sandy floor

"I know its not much but you should rest. Let me see if I can find some way out." He helped her sit down on his jacket, then went in search of a way out.

Chapter 3: Missing

When Rick got back with the water pouch, and didn't find Evelyn, he didn't panic. He knew she must be in another chamber, so he set down the pouch near the entry and went into the other parts of the pyramid, where various worker were dusting off walls, and reading the hieroglyphs. He walked from chamber to chamber, asking if anyone had seen his wife, and when he got to the last chamber, and didn't find her there, then he had reason to feel a little worried.

It really was not in his nature to panic, and he was more frustrated than worried at this point, that she was somewhere that he couldn't find her. Back outside of the Pyramids, he addressed the director of the dig, the one next to Evelyn, and told him that his wife and brother- in- law were no where to be found.

"We should organize a search, we will find her," The older man said, reassuring Rick. The people around them were called into a meeting of sorts, and dispersed to find Mrs. O'Connell and her brother.

In the treasure chamber, Jonathan was not having any luck finding a way out, and came back to Evelyn who was relaxed as she could be.

"There must be a false wall," she told him gasping as another contraction hit. Jonathan didn't know what he should do, and for now Evelyn seemed in control which he was glad for. She breathed in and out, and then relaxed.

"I know your skill with reading ancient Egyptian is rusty, and really you shouldn't need to read, just look for some sort of crevice, like the one I found in the big chamber." He left to do that and Evelyn leaned back. She had removed her sweater, and put it down as sort of a pillow, and did her best to stay relaxed. It wasn't all that long before he came back to her with good news.

"I found a way out I think." He helped her stand which brought on another contraction, and this one this time was more intense, enough so to make her moan a little. Jonathan let her squeeze his hand, and closed his eyes when she gave a good hard squeeze. Finally she let go, taking in a small breath, then they started out of the chamber into a narrow passage. They walked for what seemed like ages before the came to another chamber that was much smaller than the last, and had more treasure. It wasn't gold or precious stones, but thetreasure

here was antiques. Vases of various sorts lined the walls, and other things, like a model ship, and plates of some sort. Evelyn had not had a contraction since they left the chamber, and that had been over 20 minutes ago. Then all at once another came and she let out a yelp bringing her brother to her side.

"What can I do?" She took in a deep breath.

"Help me sit, its not as bad when I'm sitting," She said, through breaths she took. Again, Jonathan spread out his jacket, then eased her down to the floor. She leaned against the wall, and he put her sweater behind her.

"Just sit here and let me go down this next passage." She nodded.

"Mark your path," She reminded him. He had a piece of coal that he would use, and reluctantly he left her behind.

Evelyn closed her eyes trying to thing about something besides the discomfort in her back, which had returned with the last contraction. She smiled, as the memory of the night she told Rick they were going to have a baby, came back to her.

hadn't been all that long since they had gotten back from the honeymoon to the French Riviara. Evelyn had been feeling tired of late, which she didn't understand, because the honeymoon had been a time of relaxation, and getting to know the man who was now her husband. It had all happened so fast, the proposal which, came two weeks after their return from Hamunaptra, and the small wedding,

but somehow they both had known that they were meant to be with one another.. Rick was an extraordinary man, beneath the tough exterior, was a very gently and carrying man. She knew one day, when they had kids, he would make a great father. That thought made her smile. She remembered being told herself, that they were going to have a baby, how all these emotions ran over her, scared, happy, anxious, all at once, and when she had gotten home, she found him in the Parlor reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. When she told him she was

pregnant he picked her up and spun her around, then stopped gently setting her down not wanting to hurt her. She chuckled to herself. Then another contraction brought her out of thought. She groaned grabbing the edge of Jonathan's jacket and squeezed This one lasted a bit longer than the others, and she was panting and sweaty when it stopped.

"Little one, I know your ready to come see me, and your daddy, but you need to wait." She rubbed her belly closing her eyes to more memories.

Above them, no one had found any trace of Evelyn or Jonathan, and Rick was wracking his brain as to who knew this place better than anyone. Then it hit him. The Med- jai had been around longer than any one else, and generations had guarded the secrets of Hamunaptra. Was it possible that they perhaps knew how to find the treasure chamber. He had to take that chance, because right now they were not getting anywhere. If he started now, and road without stop, Hamunaptra

was at the most a day and a half away. He didn't want to leave, but something in him told him that Evelyn needed him. He found Becky in her tent studying the Diagrams that Evelyn had been looking at.

"Excuse me." She looked up

"Any luck with the Diagrams?" She shook her head.

"I'm going to find the Med-jai to help us." She knew he was worried, and tried to set his mind to ease

"Rick, if she is in labor most of the time first babies take their time being born. I know thats not much reassurance, but also she's strong and smart." He thanked her for her concern, and left to find help.

Jonathan had come back finding Evelyn asleep. He had found some old rags and bones, and started a fire to keep her warm, then sat with her, which woke her up.

"Did you find anything?" he shook his head.

"Your as tired as I am, " she said. "We should both rest while we can."

"Evelyn, I've got no idea how to bring a baby in to the world, and I want to help you, but I don't know how." She took his hand in hers.

"I was with Becky one day when she delivered a baby, so if it comes to that, I'll be able to tell you what to do." he nodded and they both drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 4: On the way

In the desert, the night air was cold, but it kept Rick awake. He had been riding the better part of half a day, and he too was thinking about this pregnancy. He remembered being in their room, in bed, reading Romeo and Juliet, which was something else he found strange. He had really gotten into writers like Shakespeare, and other great writers. Being married to Evelyn was a good thing, because he was willing to learn more about the world in other ways, than just fighting and death. They had both been reading, when she gasped, which startled him.

"Are you all right?" She smiled, and took his hand in hers, and placed it on the right side of her belly. For a moment there was nothing, then a small flutter touched his hand. He looked at her with eyes of wonder.

"Thats our baby," he told her, feeling like a kid at Christmas. He couldn't remember how long they stayed that way, with his hand on her belly, but it was truly one of the most incredible moments of his life. The sound of hoof beats heading for him snapped Rick back into the present. In a moment, some of the Med- jai arrived, among them his friend Ardeth Bay.

"One of the elders had a vision about the Pyramids," he said. Rick filled him in about Jonathan and Evelyn missing, and they took off for the dig site. Rick thanked god they knew how to get to the chamber, and prayed to any god be it Allah or the god of Christ that his wife was all right.

Evelyn,s labor was becoming more intense now, and Jonathan did his best to keep her in good humor. He knew she was afraid, truthfully, so was he, but he didn't let it show. Out of both of them, she had always been the strongest. He remembered nights when he would come home totally smashed, and how she would take care of him, until he felt better. Now it was his turn, to do the same for her, and for this baby. She was thirsty, and there wasn't any water. Jonathan

wished for the life of him, that he would have kept his Rucksack on, but now wasn't the time to worry about things he had no control over. Evelyn let out a cry as a contraction came, and Jonathan held her hand which was all he could do for her. She gasped for air, panicked, he could tell.

"Do your breathing Evie like before." She did, and it helped her through the contraction, which thus far had been the strongest one. When she had caught her breath, she told him they would need to find something to wrap the baby in, which made Jonathan's eyes grow very large.

"That close?" She didn't know, but when she had watched Becky bring the Egyption woman's baby into the world, just before she had started to push, the contractions were pretty much on top of one another.

"I don't think we are there quite yet, but we need to be ready for whatever happens." Jonathan was glad he always wore cloths in layers. He took off his button down shirt, which left him in a T-shirt, and Evelyn took it holding it to her too keep the sand off of it.

It was sunrise when Rick, Ardeth, and some of the other men, arrived at the dig.

Everyone else was just rising, and Rick went to Becky's tent, calling her name. In a moment, the young woman came out.

"These are the Med-jai, and my friend Ardeth Bay. They know how to get us to the treasure chamber."

She nodded, and told Rick what supplies they would need, if any, just in case the baby was born, or in the process of being born, when they got to them. In his tent, Rick packed his Rucksack with blankets, a gown for Evelyn, then he went and got some water pouches, and they entered the pyramid. In the large chamber, Ardeth found the circular crevice, and a smaller one beside it. He pushed the smaller one in, and the larger one popped out. Then he twisted it two times to the left, and three to the right and the wall next to the circles

opened up. Rick wanted to run, but Ardeth said it was like a maze, and so, he let Ardeth lead the way.

Now the contractions were coming in full force, and Evelyn screamed in pain as one hit her. She was leaning back as best she could, pushing, and holding her brothers hand, terrified beyond belief. It made her think twice about any more children, or at least for a while. She relaxed, panting.

"I want to sleep," She said weary now.

"I know you do, but you have to push. Just think about seeing this baby." That seemed to give her strength ,and with the next contraction she pushed with all she had. She gasped for breath, took in another and pushed more. Then she told Jonathan to feel for the babys head. He looked down and reached between her legs, and sure enough he felt something.

"What do I do," he asked slightly panicked.

"Put your hand under it, and help it out." She said. Another contraction, and another scream came.

The group reached the treasure chamber, and another secret entry was revealed. Rick heard Evelyns screams, and ignored all logic, following them to a narrow passage. Becky was hot on his tail, and a moment later following another of his wifes screams, Rick stopped when he heard the loud cries of a baby. Becky ran past him, and in a moment they were in the small chamber, where Jonathan and Evelyn were looking at the baby who was now quiet in his momma's arms. Jonathan,

still stunned, moved away as Rick came over, kneeling beside the woman he loved.

She looked at him, a tired smile on her face.

"Meet your son," She said. In a moment the baby was in his arms, and Rick felt a since of protection for this little life, far greater than anything he had every experienced. The rest of the warriors arrived, then waited outside. While Rick held his son, Becky examined Evelyn, and finding nothing amiss, she turned to the new father.

"I need to check on him." Jonathan, who had not said a word since his nephew made his entrance, spread out a blanket, and Rick gentle laid him down. The baby didn't like being poked and prodded, examined, and for a few moments let them know he was not happy. Then Becky finished and took a soft blanket and wrapped him in it, and placed him back in Evelyns arms congratulating her. Rick stood and turned to his brother-in-law, and they hugged.

"Thank you for taking care of them for me."

"I'd do it again if I had too...Uh Evie if your ever pregnant again, and this close to time, don't go on any digs." They laughed.

A few days later at the O'Connell home, Rick brought his wife breakfast in bed. When he arrived, she was sitting in an old Victorian style rocking chair nursing their son, and singing a lullybye to him. After setting the trey on the bed, Rick came over and knelt in front of them. She smiled at him.

"What are you thinking?" she asked.

"That I'm lucky to have you and Alex in my life, and that if I had it to do differently I wouldn't change a thing." They had chosen to name their son Alexander for Alexander the great, and Jonathan after his uncle, who had for once in his life stayed calm, to help bring their son into the world. Once Alex had finished his Breakfast, Rick took him, and settled on his side of the bed beside Evelyn. They were a family now, complete, and Rick swore to himself that he would always protect the two greatest treasures in his life.

Author's note: Okay so I got sappy at the end, and maybe I took Jonathan slightly out of Character, but I think that if he was put into a situation where he had too shuck all his cowardliness, he could, and for Evelyn and his nephew he would. I'll be back to write more later. Hope you guys liked this.....Eviefan.
