A life for Jonathan
Epilogue
It had been a year since the events at
Ahm-Shere, and once again all the credit of finding the place, and the
bracelet, went to Rick and Evelyn.
Things had slowly began to change for Jonathan Carnahan, for he began to
think about his life, really think.
Before he just drifted, drinking, and gambling to his hearts content,
but of late, seeing his sister and her husband, as well as Alex excited because
soon there would be another little one around to love, made him look at his
life. It was more than that
though. There was a part of him that
wanted his own family, a wife to love, and who would love him back, a place of
his own, and it sounded strange at first, but the more he thought about it, the
more he began to want that. It would
not come easy for him, because he was used to answering only to himself, but
when he really wanted something, then he went for it. Now his only problem was how to find the woman of his dreams.
Chapter: 1 The Search Begins
In his room, Jonathan was dressed for
an evening out, but this was different, tonight he was out find the woman of
his dreams, and to start with he was choosing an outfit, a suit that would make
him look important. He had picked
darker colors, wanting to look classy, and gone with a burgundy tie that went
well with his suit. Now he stood
admiring himself, hoping that a girl would take him seriously. As he looked, he didn't notice Alex walk
into the room with a deck of cards.
"Hey Uncle John you promised to
teach me that trick of yours at poker,"
Alex said starting to set up the cards, not really seeing that his Uncle
had made other plans. His nephew's
entry brought him back to the present task, and he came out of the bathroom.
"Sorry partner, I have to go out
tonight." Alex looked up noticing
his uncle was dressed differently.
"But you said you would,"
came Alex's response. Uncle John had never turned down a chance to be
with him, and Alex wasn't ready to let him do that.
"I know I said that, but I really
do need to go out tonight. It's very
important to me." That stung, his
uncle was choosing a night out over him, and after he had promiced to teach him
the new trick. Alex threw the cards
down.
"Pick those up," Jonathan said in a serious tone. Alex ran out hurt and angry, and Jonathan
sighed. Maybe this was just a stupid
idea. When had woman ever taken what he
had to say serious. But something
inside him seemed to be pushing for this night out, and promising himself to
make it up to Alex later, Jonathan left for town, and his night out.
The first place he hit was his
Resort. He had sold the diamond, and
with the money he made, set up paradise, just 10 miles from the city of
London. It was not entirely his doing,
Rick had helped draft out the plans, helped make sure they got reliable people
to do the job, but now it was pretty much his show. When he arrive, his usual habit was to go in his private entrance
where his girls waited. Tonight he went
in as a regular person, looking for a goodtime. It was a busy night, and that was very good. He held his head low, hoping that noone
would notice him, but that didn't work out.
Soon he was surrounded by woman, all the exotic dancers, who loved to
flirt with him. On any other occasion he would have welcomed it, but this night
he just wanted to be him. He made his
apologies, and left, going back into town to a casino he didn't really
know. It was also fairly new, no where
near as fancy as his place, but he didn't care about that. When he walked in he was just him, just
another paying customer, and like any paying customer, the first thing on the
list was to buy a drink. He went to the
bar and settled on a stool. He ordered
his favorite, Bourbon, and now he sat drinking and scoping the crowd for any
potential ladies. Then his eyes fell
upon a red head, and he left his drink,
starting toward her, when another man put his arm around her. That was a bad start.
At home Alex sat in his room ripping
the pages out of his Peter Pan book. It
was his uncles gift to him, and right now he didn't care. He was glad his parents were going to have a
baby, because he would be the big brother, and a better friend than his
uncle. When he heard the knock at the
door, he ignored it, and ripped up one page he had torn out, then another,
until his mother saw what he was doing.
"Alexander Jonathan O'Connell,
what on earth are you doing destroying that book?" That act alone was just as bad as any
curse. Evelyn loved books, and to see
Alex being so careless angered her to the core.
"Its not important mum just a
stupid book that uncle John got for me, and I hate him and it," came his hurt reply. His sad tone softened her heart. She had seen Jonathan leave, and knew that
he had hurt Alex's feelings
"My sweet boy, your uncle loves
you, but sometimes he gets careless, like you and your book," she said settling next to him. He wasn't going to cry, but he still hurt.
"He sure has a funny way of
showing it," Alex said, wiping a
tear that fell down his cheek. Evie
wrapped an arm around him, and he leaned into her.
"Your uncle is used to thinking
for himself, and while he has done well to think of you, and us, there are
times when he forgets. We just have to
learn to forgive him, because its not done to be mean, or hurtful," Evelyn tried. Alex nodded, and jumped as he felt a kick.
"Does that hurt you?" he
asked.
"Not when I get kicked there. Now lets go get some of Maries chocolate
cake." Alex looked at her with big
eyes. It was almost time for dinner.
"Come on, before my brain realizes
that we should wait till after dinner."
She told him. He stood and
helped her to her feet, liking the fact that throughout this pregnancy she did
things like this that was totally not sinceable, and totally too cool.
The night drug on, and Jonathan had
been to every bar and Casino he knew.
Now he drove home. He was sober,
which shocked him, but tonight he
didn't feel like having a drink. When he arrived home it was clear that
everyone was in bed, so he was quiet.
In his room he undressed down to his boxers, then crawled into bed
feeling old, and alone.
"Face the facts old chum," he
said to himself. "you were meant
to spend your life as a drunk bastard who will always be in the shadow of his
sister." He closed his eyes, and
sleep soon found him. Before complete
sleep he decided that trying to change his ways at this age was damn near
impossible, and would just do things he loved to do, and not care about being
with someone.

if they were I would be so happy...:)
Chapter:2 A Magical Night
A few weeks had passed, and everyone in
the family noticed a change in Jonathan.
He still went out at night, dressing his best, but when he came home he
wasn't ever drunk, and most days he slept away. Today was a Saturday, and Alex decided he needed to get his Uncle
into doing some of their favorite things.
When he woke up he headed for his uncle's side of the house. When he got there, the door was cracked open
a bit. Alex cracked it a little
further, and found his Uncle spralled
out in his usual manor of sleep.
"Wake up Uncle John," Alex called, in a sing song sort of
voice. His uncle mumbled something, but
didn't respond other than that. Being
persistent, and unwilling to let his uncle sleep the day away, Alex walked over to the bed, and pulled on
his uncle's feet.
"Alex, I'd like to
sleep," he said, in a tone that
told Alex he didn't want to be bothered.
Being Alex, he ignored that.
"Nope, sorry, not going to
happen." Alex went to the window and opened the curtains, letting in the light
and getting a louder groan from his uncle.
"See its a really good day, and I thought we should go to the
park, and enter the sailing contest with my Model boat" Alex said cheerfully. If he didn't love his nephew as much as he
did, Jonathan would throw him out and go back to bed. But he realized that Alex cared for him, and got up getting
dressed. Once he was ready, the two
headed out to his car, after Alex had gotten his boat, and left for a day at
the park.
It was indeed a good day, and being at
the park was just what Jonathan needed to lift his spirits. He cheered Alex on as he sailed his boat on
the shoreline of the lake, using his own breaths of air to make it go. Then when he won, Uncle and Nephew went to
Celebrate. Now they sat on one of the
park benches having Ice-cream.
"Well partner, that boat is
defiantly built well," Jonathan
said.
"Very well. Uncle John?
Why do you go out at night if your not going to drink?" Alex always knew how to get straight to the point
of things. Jonathan sighed.
"Well I guess I'm tired of going
out for that reason. There comes a time
in a guys life, when he wants more than just his drinking and his
cards." Alex nodded, his mum
always said he should find more than that, so maybe this was good then.
"What more do you need, you have
me, mum, and dad, and this baby, whenever it shows up," Alex said.
"Your very right, I do, but, well
I would like to have a family of my own."
That was what Alex was afraid of.
All his life he had always been number one in his Uncles eyes. Now if Uncle John got a wife, well he would
be number two.
"Ahh you don't need to have a
family, they cost lots of money,"
Alex said. His friend Max's
parents fought all the time about money, and how much things cost, but for Alex
money and the cost of things had never been anything he had heard his own
parents mention. Jonathan chuckled at
his nephew, realizing that Alex was worried about being replaced.
"You know partner, even if I do
get a family for myself, I will always have time for you." he said, hugging Alex to him. That made Alex feel a bit better, and after
the hug, they left to go on a bus tour of the city.
That night Jonathan went in to town
with a happy heart. Alex had done him a
great favor, making him get out of the house for the day. Now he strolled the quiet streets of London
heading for a small Tavern to scope out the women there, when he heard someone
crying. He stopped and looked around
him, and followed the cries into a small alley. The cries stopped suddenly.
"Hello? I'm just here to help if I can." he said, trying to see in the darkness of the Alley.
"Better just to go," came a
sad, soft voice. He stayed where he
was.
"But your upset, and I've got all
night if you want a friend." In a
moment he saw a small shadowed form come out from behind some old crates, and
in a moment he looked at a face that was the most beautiful he had ever seen,
in all his 40 years of life.
"I'm Jonathan," he said softly.
"My name is Abigail. What is your pleasure sir?" she
asked. He was surprised because she
looked young, very young.
"How about we walk?" She nodded, and took his arm, and he led her
back out on the streets. They walked in
silence to a small park, one of many in the city, and Jonathan found a place
for them to sit, that was out of the way of prying eyes.
"I'm not used to guys treating me
human. Generally they don't even ask my
name, they just pay me for my services,"
she said, feeling strangely at ease in this mans company.
"Every woman should be treated
with respect," he said. He had
known many woman like Abigail, and never once had he ever hurt one of them, and
had always gotten a name, even if it wasn't a real one.
"It's rare to find a man who will
do that, at least in my line of work."
He nodded, and started to take out his wallet, but she put her hand on
his.
"Not yet sir. If it is all right with you, can we just
talk a bit. Its been along time since I
had a friend." He nodded and put
his wallet away.
"First my name is Jonathan, you
don't have to call me sir. Do you mind
if I ask rather personal question?"
he asked. She shook her head.
"I guess you want to know my
age. I'm 27," she said.
She was smaller than most of the woman she worked with. Her brown hair was mid length, and she just
had a little of it pulled back. Here
eyes were a soft color of green, and her complexion was lightly tan. She was beautiful, and he decided he would
give her a night on the town, but just as friends. Something in him wanted to get to know her, and he knew that
generally most woman of Abigail's profession didn't allow that, but something
in the way she presented herself told him she desperately wanted a friend, and
he would be that for her this night.
"Well Abigail.." she stopped
him
"Call me Abby please." He smiled and nodded.
"Have you ever been out by the
lake at night?" She shook her
head.
"No, as I said most men, well all
men, want to get down to business."
He stood and took her hand in his, then they walked into the small park,
to a small lake with a bridge over it.
The moon was out in its full glory, and it cast a light on them, making
things seem a bit magical.
"Should I tell you about
myself?" Jonathan asked, knowing
she wouldn't ask, because again in her profession things were kept on a
business level.
"Yes," she said smiling up at
him. He sat down and helped her sit
beside him then he took his shoes off, and her little shoes off, and they put
their feet in the water.
"I am an adventurer, well more in
my past, but I go on digs in Egypt with my sister and her family," he told her. She looked up at him wide eyed.
"Egypt? The place with all the pyramids, and treasures?" she
asked. One of her good friends had
lived there as a child, and told her all the time about what it was like to
live there, and about cursed cities and such.
"Well yes, its much more than that
though." He told her about digs
they had been on, about his adventures, and for a change didn't stretch the
truth, not once tempted to. It was just
something about Abby that made him want to tell her things about him that were
true. He wanted her to like him for
him, the real him, and it made since to Jonathan, to do so. Night went on,
and it was starting to turn to day as the two left the park still hand and
hand. He walked her back to her
apartment, a small building that looked like it was falling apart.
"I hope I didn' bore you,"
she said feeling guilty that she hadn't given him any pleasure.
"Not at all. I almost forgot." She stopped him.
"Please, I liked having you as my
friend, lets just call this a night on me," she told him. He smiled
at her, and she felt her heart race, and when he kissed her lightly on her lips,
she closed her eyes, promising to remember him for the rest of her life.
"If you don't mind I would like to
see you again tonight." That put a
frown on her face. She did want to see
him but she was afraid. There was
something about him that made her trust him, but becoming attached to a man
like him was dangerous thing to do. She
had to stay professional, because if she fell in love with him, she would never
be able to sleep with another man.
"I wish we could, but I have a job
to do," she said almost wanting to cry.
"I understand. I have a hotel, here." he handed her a card with the hotels name on
it, and his number.
"If you ever need anything from me
all you have to do is call, and I'll come get you." Abby nodded and watched him as he left. When he was gone, she went up to her apartment
and walked in quietly. Her roommate
was already awake fixing breakfast, getting read to go to her own job at a
cafe.
"Did everything go all
right?" she asked. Tiffany nodded.
"She only woke up once." Abby smiled and walked over to her
friend. Tiffany had taken her and her 3
month old baby girl in one night, the night she had given birth to Kayla, and
since then, watched the baby at night
while Abby earned her living.
"I didn't make any money last
night, I'll take it out of Kayla's savings so you can pay rent," she said taking a bite out of a piece of
stale toast.
"No you won't, don't worry about
it okay, you just take care of your baby, let me do the rest." After Tiffany left, Abby finished her
breakfast, and made up a bottle for her daughter, then went into the back room
where her baby and she slept. The crib
was against the far wall, and though she tried to be quite the boards in the
floor squeaked, and her baby cried.
"Hey baby its okay." Abby
lifted her out, and once Kayla had her mum she quieted against her.
"I'm glad you let your Auntie
Tiffany sleep in." Abby said, as
she settled into bed and cradled her daughter in her arms, putting the bottle
into her mouth.
"Don't you worry baby girl, one of
these days I'll find a life for us that will be better than what we have now,
and a man who won't hit me, or hurt you, like you father. Its a good thing he doesn't know where we
live." She kissed her daughters
head, and once the baby had finished her milk the mother and daughter went to
sleep.

Chapter 3 : Found
It had been a few nights since Abby had
seen Jonathan, and though she terribly missed him, she guessed it was for the
better that he had not come back her way.
Their night had been so wonderful, and she had never been treated so
wonderfully, but the fact remained, that she was a whore, and he was a proper gentleman, well brought up, and there
was just no way she could believe that he would love her. Right now it was noon, and Kayla was awake
laying on the floor, on a quilt, while
Abby sipped her tea, and read the paper, that her roommate had left out. She was considering getting a different job.
At one time, she had worked at a fancy store selling jewelry, but then she got
pregnant from her ex boyfriend, who was well to do, and they had fired her for
that, saying that she wouldn't be able to do her job as well. Sometimes she wished she could see Lawrence again,
then she would tell him where to take his rich self, and what to do with his
money. Right now the only thing that
kept her going was her baby girl, and she loved her more than any one word
could describe. Thinking of her
daughter made her smile, and she got up from the table and went over to her,
settling beside her, and lifting her into her arms.
"Well Kayla shall we go for a
stroll in town?" she asked her
baby. Kayla grinned, and that made Abby
smile. It didn't take long to get her
ready, and once she was, they headed out, and away from the shabby
building. The outfit Abby had on was
slacks and a shirt, nothing fancy, but nothing too revealing, she left that
kind of dress for her night job. It was
a glorious day out, and she decided to go on the bus to one of the larger
parks, to do her favorite hobby which was to people watch.
In the park, Alex and Jonathan took
turns flying his new kite.
"Wow Uncle John how did you get so
good at that?" Alex asked, as his
uncle made the kite do dips, and turns in the wind.
"I used to do this allot when I
was your age, though your mum and I made our own kites, and they never went
quite that high." The two didn't
notice that they were being watched.
Abby was surprised to see Jonathan, and wondered if the boy with him was
his son. She took a chance and went
over to them.
"Hello there," she said. Jonathan turned and was startled, and
surprised, pleasantly so, to see Abby.
"Hello..." He would have said more, but Alex yelled at
him because the Kite was falling toward the lake. It was too late, and it landed right in the water.
"Aww see what you did Uncle John
that was my best kite, and Mum said no more if I ruined it thanks Allot,"
he yelled exasperated. Yelling was not
something Jonathan liked, and especially not around friends.
"Alex, thats enough I'll purchase
a new kite for you, since it was my fault," he said in a stern tone of
voice. That made Alex frown, and a
little mad, because now his uncle was talking to the woman and her baby.
"And who might this be?" Hearing Alex call Jonathan 'Uncle
John," made her less sure about telling him about Kayla, but she guessed
it would be true test of the friendship if he stuck around once the truth was
told.
"This is Kayla, my
daughter," Abby said. Jonathan's eyes grew large.
"I guess this means we can't be
friends. It's all right, most men don't
like that she is around, you know added baggage of a baby who isn't a part of
them." she explained, and started
away. Jonathan stopped her.
"Abby, I happen to like children,
well honestly Alex is the only child I've been around, but you shouldn't worry
about her, and whether or not I'll like you.
I told you we were friends, and I meant that." While they talked Alex sat getting
angry. How could his uncle do this to
him, this was his time. In his anger,
he made a dicision, and while they were talking, he left. He had enough money, so he decided to go see
a picture show without his uncle. It
wasn't until a few minutes later, that Jonathan remembered his nephew, and
turned to call him over, but he found Alex was not where he should be.
"Now where did he go?" Jonathan asked to himself more than
anyone.
"Perhaps to the playground, I'm
thinking he isn't happy that we have taken up your time," Abby said,. She had noticed the frown on Alex's face
when he had gotten scolded for yelling at his uncle.
"I hope so." They walked the short distance to that area,
and while they saw many children at play, they did not see Alex. Feeling bad that she had caused this problem,
though she didn't tell him that, Abby helped to search for him. It was a large park, and after an hour with
no luck finding him, Jonathan was frantic.
"I'm sorry Jonathan, I shouldn't
have interrupted." She was upset
at herself for causing a rucuss, but Jonathan would have none of that.
"Abby, he knows not to run off
like this, I'm sure he went home, or...I know where he is." He took her hand and they walked fast away
from the park to the little building where the picture shows were held. Jonathan went to the ticket boy, and
described Alex, and the boy said he let Alex in to one of the shows. It was then that Kayla chose to fuss, so
Abby took her leave, and Jonathan went into the show and waited to its end to
deal with Alex. The end came fairly
quickly, and he spotted Alex right off.
When Alex saw him, and the angry look, he was almost afraid, then
remembered Abby, and decided he could be mad too. When he got to the entry , Jonathan grabbed him by his arm and
pulled him outside.
"Alex you scared the living day
lights out of me. You know not to run
off, so why did you do that?"
Jonathan said angry.
"Why did you wreck my kite, and
why did you start talking to that girl and her stupid baby. Your my uncle, and that was our time
together, so if I want to go running off when your not watching, and not being
a good uncle, then I'll damn well do what I want," Alex spat.
He turned and walked off, and Jonathan stood there momentarily stunned. He wanted to smack his rear for that, but he
wasn't the one who laid down the law, and would let his sister and Rick handle
it.
"Alex stop right there
now," Jonathan said.
"No." He ran and caught the bus just as it was
pulling out and left for home, leaving uncle John alone.
It was almost an hour after Alex got
home, when Jonathan arrived, infuriated.
His sister and brother-in-law were sitting in the parlor talking when he
entered.
"Is Alex home?" Evelyn nodded.
"He ran to his room. Jonathan
whats going on with you two," she asked worried.
"I met a woman a few nights ago,
and she was at the park today. I just
talked to her, and Alex had a tantrum just about, yelling at me for wrecking
his kite, then he took off on me, and went to
the picture show alone. I told
him he knew he wasn't supposed to, but he was even more rude, and said and I
quote "that he will damn well do
what he wants.' Well I'll say this, I'm
not dealing with that." Jonathan
stormed off, and both Rick and Evelyn head upstairs to talk to Alex about his rude behavior.
Alex had gotten home and taken the
model ships that he and Jonathan had built, and wrecked them. He had a hammer, and was bashing them in
,when his mum and dad entered.
"Alex, what are you
doing?" Evelyn asked, angered that
he was being destructive, but then again not surprised, when he was mad he
generally broke something.
"I hate him mum I hate him because
he was being selfish. He wrecked my kite, and he can just go to hell for all I
care." Alex threw the hammer and
it shattered a very expensive Tiffany lamp.
That was more than enough for Rick at least, and before Alex could add
another dirty word, he was pulled to his feet and got 4 hard swats to his
bottom for his language, and for his destructive behavior. Alex cried. rubbing his sore bottom.
"Now any more words such as those
in my presence or your mothers will result in more spankings. Don't you ever
ever say those words to me, or to your uncle.
"I don't care about
him," Alex yelled then ran to his
bed and cried his heart out. Rick
sighed and looked at Evie, who came to his side.
"I'll go get a dust pan and clean
this up." she said. He shook his head.
"Alex come over here
now," he said in his most stern
tone of voice. His son obeyed still
crying.
"Clean up what you
broke." Evelyn came with the broom
and Alex cleaned and cried. He was so
mad right now that he wanted to just break everything in the house, but getting
spanked for it, wasn't something he wanted, and once he had cleaned, Rick
picked him up and hugged him. Alex kept
crying, hurting now.
"Why does he have to find
girl," Alex sobbed against his
fathers shoulder. Rick settled on the
edge of his bed, and Evie settled next to them.
"Alex, your uncle is very
lonely" Evelyn tried.
"But he has me, "Alex said
lifting his head away from his dads shoulder Rick settled him on his lap and
Alex leaned his head against Rick's chest.
"Your right buddy, but sometimes a
man wants more, sometimes he sees others around who are happy, like us, as a
family, and he realizes that he wants that for himself.
"So he will get married and I'll
never see him again," Alex said
sadly.
"Oh you will so," Evelyn said rubbing a hand over her ever
expanding belly.
"I'm still mad," Alex told them. Rick kissed the top of his head.
"Anger is not a bad thing son, but
when you used hateful words, and you destroy things, then thats when anger becomes unacceptable," Rick said, as an explanation for his
punishment.
"I'm sorry I just hurt dad, its
like someone took my very best friend away, and its not fair." he didn't cry, but he didn't let up on his
hold around his dads chest. Evelyn
snuggled closer and kissed he son's forehead.
"So will you love this baby
more?" Alex was feeling very
rejected lately, and this thing with Uncle John just made all of those feelings
surface.
"Of course we won't," Evelyn
told him.
"You are my first baby," she
said hugging both of her men. Rick
kissed both of them, and then someone knocked at the door, and Jonathan came
in.
"Hey partner," Alex ran to him and they hugged.
"I'm sorry I got mad its just I'm
used to having you around for just me,"
he said trying to explain.
"I understand, why don't you and I
go get Anubis, and Seti out, and take a ride before dinner. Those were two of their four horses, and
Alex loved that idea, then frowned because his room was a disaster.
"Go on, we'll take care of this
for you," Rick said. Alex yipped
"I bet I'll beat you," Alex ran off, and Jonathan went after him
just like a child.
Elsewhere in London, someone was not as
lucky to have a love, as great as that of the O'Connells. Abby had returned home to find Lawrence
waiting.
"What gives you the right to come
in here, where I live." she said, after putting Kayla in her crib.
"Because that is my daughter, and
I've decided that I want to raise her the proper way, not in some slum, and not
have her be exposed to your lifestyle.
Now get her things ready,"
he said in a loud tone of voice.
"I will not, she is just as much
my daughter, and if you want to see her you will do it here." He grabbed her and shook her.
"You dare to tell me what to
do," he asked.
"Yes, when it comes to my baby
then yes, I dare to tell you what to do."
He slapped her hard, then shoved her on the couch and went into her
room. Abby ran after him and jumped on
him before he reached the crib. She
wrapped her arms around his neck and bit down hard against the skin on his
shoulder. Lawrence yelled, and Kayla
cried. He backed up hard against a wall
and which caused Abby to release him.
His anger was put to the limit, and he picked her up and threw her on
the bed then took off his leather belt and began to beat her with it. She never made a peep, and when he finished
he spat on her and left. Despite her
stinging body, Abby got up and went to her baby, lifting her out, and cried
with her.
"We have to go baby
girl," she said in a shaky voice,
knowing Lawrence would go out and get drunk, and come back and beat her some
more, then likely take off with Kayla.
She was glad she had saved Jonathan's number, and called his hotel. A woman answered and Abby tried not to cry.
"I need to talk to Mr.
Carnahan." on the other end, Tonya, heard the fear in the girls voice.
"Is this Abby?"
"Yes."
"Okay, honey can you get a cab out
here, Jonathan isn't here right now, but he told me to take care of you if you
ever needed him, and he wasn't there."
That made Abby feel better and she hurried and packed then left
The resort was grand, and Abby felt out
of place as she got out of the cab. A
tall slender woman came out, and paid the driver, then took a coat and wrapped
it around her, leading her inside, and up to a room.
"I called his house, and he said
he would be here soon." Abby
nodded and placed her sleeping daughter on the bed.
"Is it safe here?" she
asked. Tonya smiled
"Very safe honey, you just
rest." She nodded, and as Tonya
started to leave, Abby called her back.
"Please stay with me, just till I
go to sleep." That Tonya did
without a second thought. Abby went to
sleep quickly, and a few minutes later Jonathan arrived, with Doc Brown. Tonya
went over to her, and woke her, which startled her a little.
"Shh, he is here, and has a friend
who is a doctor to look at your bruises."
Abby let the doctor look at her.
"You'll heal, but you need to
rest," Doc Brown told her.
"I have to feed my
daughter." Jonathan sat next to
her.
"Don't worry about that for
now," he said. She was shaking and
he couldn't help but to hold her.
"Not to worry, I'm not going to
let anyone hurt you anymore." Abby
sighed.
"How is that?" she asked
tired.
"Well for starts, you will stay
here, and let me take care of you."
Jonathan said. Tonya and the
doctor left.
"Jonathan you and I come from two
different worlds, and you can't take care of me forever."
"Where we come from, and how we
were brought up, isn't anything that matters Abby. I love being with you, and you fill an empty void that has been
in my heart for a long time. She pulled
away and looked at him.
"I love being with you too, but
people will talk if we decide to start a relationship.
"Let them talk, I've been talked
about all my life, compared to my sister who is an accomplished Egyptologist,
well known in social circles, while I'm just a drifter. I drift because I haven't found the meaning
to my life, what it is I want out of life, and when I'm with you I feel like my
life has meaning." She looked
surprised.
"But Jonathan I'm a
whore," He hugged her closer.
"Only because of your situation
with you daughter," he told
her. She sighed relaxing in his arms.
"Well I don't know what I'm going
to do now. I can't go back to my
apartment, and I feel like I'd be taking advantage of you by letting you take
care of me.
"It's not taking advantage when
I'm the one offering to do this,"
he told her. She guessed that
was so.
"I'm also 27, and your much
older." He held her away looking
at her.
"Abby do you love me?" She shutered and nodded.
"Then don't let age get in the way
of that. If we love one another, then
age isn't going to make a difference, and besides I may be 40, but you'll never
see me act my age. I act like I'm a
child most of the time." She
nodded so tired. Jonathan leaned back
and held her, and as she slept he felt complete. He looked beside him at the baby, and felt a since of
protectiveness to both of them.
Disclaimer: I claim nothing of the movies.

born are mine, and if you want to do a

Chapter 4 : Coming together.
The first few days after Lawrence attacked her, were jumpy for Abby. She preferred to stay in her room, and when
Jonathan came for visits, which were quite frequent, he didn't press her to go
out. Right now she was alone, with her
baby. Kayla was laying on the bed
holding up a rattle, which Jonathan had brought for her. That thought made her smile. He liked kids, that part was for sure, and
Kayla liked him. She cooed at him, Abby
called it flirting, and watching them together made her hopeful that possibly
things would work out.
"All right my sweet girl, its time
for a nap." Abby got up and got a
bottle out, and filled it with water, and used powdered formula and mixed it,
then came to the bed, and lifted her daughter into her arms. In a moment, the baby was drinking, and her
eyes closed. Just as Abby was getting
comfortable there was knock at her door.
She looked out, and found Jonathan waiting. She opened it, while still feeding her baby. He had flowers for her and set them on the
table, while Abby laid Kayla on the bed and propped the bottle so she could eat
alone. When she came over to him, he
gently pulled her into his arms, and the shared a hug, and a gentle kiss. She loved that he was taking things slow
with her, and loved how he treated her, like she was his equal.
"Jonathan, has your family started
to ask about us?" she asked in a
worried sort of tone. He led her over
to the couch, and they sat down.
"They have tried, but I've decided
that I should just introduce you."
She looked surprised, and a little afraid.
"That's all rather sudden isn't
it, we have only been courting for a little bit, a few days." She said.
He nodded.
"I'm just excited Abby, I want to
show them the person who makes me happy."
She nodded.
"Yes, but what scares me is when
they ask about what I do. What do I
say?" It was clear he had not
thought about that. Evelyn would likely
not like this relationship, but he was a grown man, and he loved Abby, and that
to him was all that mattered.
"If you would like me too, I will speak with them about us, before you
meet them." She nodded and stood,
going over to the bed to get Kayla to burp.
That task didn't take long, and once she was asleep, Abby came over and
settled down by Jonathan's side.
"I was thinking we could go to the
park tomorrow. It is supposed to be a
beautiful day," he said, kissing
the top of her head.
"I would like that." He nodded, and for the rest of the night
they simply talked. Jonathan told her
about his childhood. About the digs his
parents went on. Then about his
adulthood, and the adventures he had been on most recently. They ordered in Room service, and it was
late when he took his leave. After he
left, Abby ran a bath and she and Kayla
sat in the warm water. Abby was happy
now, and for the first time ever ,she began to allow herself the luxury of
dreaming.
It was dinner the next night, that
Jonathan decided to tell his family about Abby. Right now Evelyn and Rick were talking about his up coming
business trip to Paris. He was going to
sell an artifact for a man here in London, and he was trying on talk her into
going with him. When there was silence
Jonathan cleared his throat.
"I know you all have been
wondering about me, and why I haven't been coming home drunk. So I guess its time to tell you. I've met someone." Rick who had just taken a drink of his
bourbon promptly choked. It was Evelyn
who patted his back for him until he could breath again.
"May I be excused please?"
Alex asked annoyed. He knew who this
girl was, and he was mad. Evelyn
excused him and he left for his room.
He put on his coat and his shoes, and left. It was time to set this woman straight on his uncle John.
"You met someone?" Rick said
recovering. Jonathan had a grin as wide
as the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland.
"Well tell us about
her," Evelyn said rubbing her
belly.
"She is very beautiful, her name
is Abby, and she makes me want to be responsible. I haven't had a drop to drink since I started talking to her,
well not enough to get drunk. I don't
want to gamble anymore, I just want to spend all my time with her." He was happy this both Rick and Evelyn could
tell.
"Any woman who can keep you from
gambling has got to be pretty special," Rick said very impressed by all of
this.
"So what does she do? Where did you meet her?" Evelyn asked. This was the part he wasn't sure of telling her about.
"She was on the street when I met
her actually," he said, and
suddenly it didn't make him afraid to tell them. He told them every last detail ,and when he finished, he waited
for one or both of them to yell at him for getting involved with a whore, or at
least the age, and the fact that she had a baby.
"Jonathan, I'm very happy that you
found someone you can love,"
Evelyn said. Her initial
reaction was to yell at him, but the look in his eyes, the way he spoke of this
young woman, made her realize that in some respects it was like she and
Rick. Rick's life before he met her was
very risqué, and she knew that he had probably slept with his fair share of
women. He wasn't, in the beginning, a
Business man, and he still was not, but none of that mattered. All her up bringing as a proper British
woman had not made a bit of difference.
When she met him she fell in love instantly, and so here was Jonathan in
the same boat she had been in.
"Well Jonathan when do we get to
meet her?" Rick asked. That surprised Jonathan.
"Tomorrow night?" he
asked. They nodded, and Jonathan felt a
warm glow in his heart. He went to his
room and started the record, playing some light music as he got ready for
bed. He had never felt love like this,
and it was better than any treasure, or all the amount of money in the
world.
No one had noticed Alex missing, all assuming he had gone to
bed. Once Rick and Evelyn finished
cleaning around the kitchen, they got a romantic notion of their own ,and went
to their room retiring for the night.
At the hotel, Alex arrived and snack in
the back entrance. He went up to the
private suite ready to bring destruction to this girl and his uncle. When he got to her room the door was partly
open and he heard a baby crying. Alex
frowned and went in. It was dark,
though he saw a light on in the bathroom.
When he turned on the light, he found the place a mess, and the baby
laying on the bed was unharmed. He went
to the bathroom and knocked, hearing a sob.
"Go way," came the reply.
"But your baby is
crying," He said. She started to cry harder, and Alex knew
this was bad. He went to the bed and
picked up the baby, trying to remember how his mum had shown him how to hold
the doll they had practiced on. Once
Kayla was in his arms she quieted.
"See nothing to worry
about." He sat at the door with
her.
"Abby?" she didn't respond, only sobbed.
"I should get help did someone
hurt you?" he asked. She started to cry again, and Alex made up
his mind. He got the phone, and dialed
the house. It rang 15 times, but noone
picked up, and he guessed about their where abouts. He hung up and went to the door.
"Abby I'm going to get my Uncle, is the bad man gone for a
while.?" he asked. He guessed it was a bad man, one of his
friends fathers had done this once, to Max's mother, and he remembered that his
mum had hidden in the bathroom, when he and Max had found her, and that she
didn't want a big deal made out of it.
"He said he will come back
tomorrow night," came her shaky
reply.
"Well I have to leave, and your
baby needs you." Abby didn't
respond
"I can't let her see me like
this." Alex was unsure of what to
do.
"Then I'll take her with
me." She sobbed more, and he got a
blanket and put it over her then pulled his coat around them and went
outside. His Uncles Driver was out
taking a smoke.
"Alex?' he asked.
"Joe can you drive us to my house,
its very important." The man
nodded, and let Alex into his fancy car, then Joe took them the fifteen miles
to the manor. When they arrived Kayla
was asleep. Alex told him to go on, and went in the side door
using the key. He wanted to tell his
Uncle, but wasn't sure what to do, and his parents had all the answers, so he
went up to get them. Before he did that
he put Kayla on his bed and put some pillows around her, then went to his
parents door ,and knocked loud until his dad answered His hair was.sticking up and he was breathing heavy, but non of
that mattered.
"Dad I went to tell Abby to stay
away from Uncle john, but when I got there she was hurt bad. Like Max's dad hurt his mum. I brought her baby with me cause she was
locked in the bathroom. She needs help
dad." He was afraid, and Rick knelt down and hugged him. He had his robe on, and Alex felt safe.
"Did you tell your
uncle?" He shook his head.
"I wasn't sure if he knew about
it." Evelyn had heard and came out
with him.
"Rick go get Jonathan, I'll make
up the guest room and call Doctor Brown,"
Evelyn said. He left and Alex
led her into his room where the baby was awake.
"Well hello there, you are a cute
little one." Evelyn picked her up
and she fussed a little.
"What do we do with
her?" Alex asked.
"First we need to get a bottle for
her." Jonathan had told them of
Abbys young age, and about helping to feed the baby bottles, and Evie had one
that had never been used. While she and
Alex took care of the baby, Rick had gotten Jonathan up, and now they were on
their way to the hotel. Neither said
much, and Jonathan half hoped that this Lawrence fellow was there, so he could
beat the living day lights out of him.
Though he knew that wouldn't help things along. When they arrived at the room the door was
closed. Jonathan got the key and went
in. It was a mess as Alex had said, and
they heard sobs from the bathroom.
"I'll wait outside for
you," Rick told him. Jonathan nodded and went to the door.
"Abby?"
"Oh Jonathan he found me, and he
wanted to take Kayla but I fought him and he hurt me." She cried harder.
"Abby please open the
door." It took a while to convince
her to do so, and when she did her face was cut up bad. Jonathan took her into his arms and held
her.
"Shh. your coming with us. My sister is taking care of Kayla, and she
has called our doctor for you, the one whom you saw the other night. She is setting up a room for you
two." Abby sobbed more, and
Jonathan picked her up and carried her out in to the hall. She hid her sore face against his chest and
on the drive home she went to sleep.
Back at the Manor Alex sat feeding the
baby her bottle while his mum made up the bed in the guest room. He hadn't thought he would like babies, but
so far this wasn't so bad.
"All right we have one room ready,
and this little lady needs to burp." Kayla was asleep and as Evie took her
she simply snuggled against her shoulder and slept on. She gave two burps, which Alex laughed at.
"She should excuse
herself," he said. Evelyn smiled, then someone knocked at the
door. While she took the baby up to the
guest room Alex without asking who it was opened it, and found a tall man
standing there.
"Can I help you?" The man shoved him down.
"I'm looken for Jonathan. He has been around my Abby, and I've come to
tell him he has to stop. This guy was
drunk and Alex thought about his mum,
and the baby, and Kayla.
"He's out," Alex said hoping that would get rid of him,
which it did not.
"Well then I guess you will have
to keep me company." Alex stood
and the guy grabbed him by the color of his shirt, and pulled up to his face.
"So.." Alex kicked him in his balls, and the man
yelled and dropped him. He ran upstairs
to the guest room where his mum was rubbing Kayla's back He shut the door and locked it.
"Whats going on?"
"Abby's whoever is here and he is
drunk."
"Where the hell are you?" the
man asked approaching. Evelyn was ready
to defend, then realized all to quickly that there was nothing she could
do. Anything she did would put her baby
at risk. They heard him try the door
and stayed quiet.
"Damn kid get your butt out here
now," The man said. Kayla chose that moment to start crying.
"Is that my daughter?" Lawrence recognized her cry, and began to
kick at the door. Then they heard a gunshot fired, and a scream. Alex started for the door But Evelyn held
him back
"No honey just wait. They heard Rick's voice, and Evelyn held
Alex because she knew her husbands temper, and they heard fighting, and more
crys of pain, then silence.
"Evelyn, Alex?" came Rick's voice. Alex opened the door and Rick picked him up and hugged him first,
carrying him into the room so he couldn't see the dead man in their hall.
Two hours later everything was
settled. Abby was asleep in Jonathan's
bed with her baby, and Doctor Brown had stitched her face with tiny fine
stitches, and wrapped it for her. He
told them that she should heal with Minimal scaring, and that she just needed
rest. He had also given her shot for
the pain, which would allow her to sleep.
Now Jonathan sat by her side holding her hand.
"I feel so terrible, that he would
come here like this."
"Don't worry about that now, you
just rest.'' The doctor was packing his
bags when Alex ran in.
"Mum says she has a
contraction," He said. The doctor left with him, and Jonathan
wanted to go, but then sat with the woman he loved. He would end up waiting at any rate in the parlor, and in a
moment Alex slunk in
"Dad says I can't be in with
them."
"Then you can keep us
company," Jonathan said, wanting
to talk to him anyway, about why he had gone to the hotel. Alex sat in the couch, and Jonathan came
after Abby was asleep.
"Why were you going to say mean
things about me to Abby?" he was
hurt by this, and Alex looked down.
"Because I was mad, and Because I
didn't know how nice she was. I'm glad
you have her, and I'm glad she has you,"
He hugged his Uncle and Jonathan sighed. He could never stay mad at his nephew for very long. Kayla chose that moment to start to cry, and
Jonathan went over to her, and picked her up.
"Shhh." He paced with her and she went back to
sleep.
"Did you do that with
me?" Alex asked his Uncle.
"Sure did, but not at night. Your dad used to walk with you, and really
it was only for the first two weeks, then you started to sleep through the
night." Jonathan said as he sat
down with the baby.
"If you marry Abby then you will
be a father." Alex pointed out.
Jonathan looked down at the little baby in his arms.
"I guess I will." Alex grinned, and yawned. He leaned against his Uncle and they fell
asleep.
It didn't seem all that much later that
Rick came in, and found them asleep on the couch. As he walked over the baby was awake and looked at him. He knelt down and she smiled at him.
"Your not going to be the only
baby around this house," he told
her. She shifted and woke Jonathan.
"You look like hell," Jonathan said softly.
"Just wait till its your turn
buddy." Rick said letting the baby
hold his hand.
"Well boy or girl?" He asked.
"Girl," Rick said.
Alex came awake.
"Dad did we get a baby
yet?" he nodded.
"You have a new sister," he
said. Alex got up excited, and went
with his father to see her. Jonathan
stood and carried Kayla to her mamma.
"I heard you have a new
niece," Abby said.
"I do. how do you feel?"
She sighed.
"Like a mummy with my face all
bandaged. He grinned. One of these days he would tell her about
Hamunaptra, but for now that needed to wait.
He settled Kayla in her arms and mixed a bottle for her, and helped her
feed her baby. They would get through this,
and he hoped she would heal with their love to guide her, to guide both of
them.

Chapter 5 : Family Time.
A week passed, and Abby's bandages came
off, and the stitches were removed. She
had stayed in bed all that time, not wanting to get up, to embarrassed. Right now she was sitting at a mirror
looking at her scars. They were not all
that bad, but they did make her think of Mary Shelly's Frankenstien. Someone knocked at her door, and she guessed
it wasn't Jonathan, because he always let himself in, which she didn't mind. She sighed.
Jonathan and Alex had taken Kayla to the park upon her request, so she
could be alone and think. She liked it
here, but she was afraid, and lately she had been thinking about running
off. Kayla had a good place to stay,
and she knew that sounded selfish, but she was afraid. When she opened the door, Evelyn was there,
and until now Abby had never seen her.
She had her baby in a sling of sorts, one that she wore around her neck,
and over her shoulder, so that the baby lay against her.
"I thought you might like some
company?" Evie said. Jonathan had told her how closed off she had
become, and Evelyn had suggested that she herself talk to her, try to make her
feel better.
"If you don't care to look at my
awful face," Abby said sadly.
"It isn't awful, you just had a
bad spot of luck," Evie said softly. Abby let her in.
"I'm so frightened," Abby admitted and started to cry. After Evelyn took Emily out of her sling,
and placed her on Jonathan's bed, she came to the young girl and hugged her.
"Shh, you don't have to be afraid,
you have people in this house who think very fondly of you, especially my
brother. She looked at Evelyn
"He does love me, I know this, but
I'm just afraid that he won't want to love me, and deal with Kayla who isn't
his baby."
"Abby, until you came along,
Jonathan just drifted in life. He has
never had purpose before, and now he does.
He loves you, and he loves Kayla like his own daughter. I've never seen him this happy. Now all we need to do is make you see
that." she said, and Abby smiled.
"Well he does make me
happy," she said about to continue
when Emily started to cry. Her cries
brought her mum to her.
"Shh," Evie picked her up, and rubbed her back, and
in a moment she went back to sleep. She
came over to the couch and sat down, and Abby sat with her.
"I miss going out," Abby admitted.
"Then we should go for a walk, I
need to get my body back in shape, and its a nice day for Emily to be
out." She stood and Abby came with
her. They went in to the other part of
the house, where Rick was reading his paper.
He looked up and smiled.
"I think Abby and I are going for
a walk," Evie informed.
"Do you want me to watch
Emily?" She had intended on taking
the baby with her, but then getting her sweater on her and her bonnet, would
likely upset her, so Evelyn brought their daughter to him, and placed her in
his arms. She leaned forward and placed
a kiss on his lips then moved away.
Abby watched them, and smiled.
She had never seen people so much in love, and hoped that she and
Jonathan would be that way. As they
headed out, Jonathan and Alex came with Kayla, who was asleep in Jonathan's
arms. Abby had not been ready to see
him, and ran back through the house heading for his room.
"Let me see this little
lady," Evelyn said taking Kayla,
and letting Jonathan go after his love.
When he got to his room, he tried the door and it opened. Abby was laying on the bed facing away from
him. He sat beside her, and gathered
her in his arms
"I talked to Evelyn, she told me
not to worry about how I look, but I'm afraid still." Jonathan tilted her face up and kissed each
of her scars then her lips. He was
gentle, but kissed her a little more than he had in these past few weeks. His tongue entered her mouth in a sweet
searching, and her arms wrapped around him.
When they parted, she rested her head on his chest.
"Now are you worried?" She shook her head.
"Did Kayla like the
park?" He nodded.
"She loves to swing. Alex held her most of the time, unless she
got fussy, but I do believe he is enjoying having her around, as much as I
am. Abby I want to take you out, to the hotel. For us to have a private dinner.
Evelyn said she would take care of Kayla, though we need to be back
before the night ends." She
nodded.
"Are you sure she doesn't
mind.?" Abby asked him.
"No, she offered to, as soon as I
told her about wanting to do something for just us." That surprised Abby.
"She has her baby." Jonathan smiled.
"I know. She does have two other people who will help out." So it was decided.
A little later, in Evelyn and Rick's
room, Abby sat while Evelyn helped her with her make up, and her hair. Abby already had on a soft floral dress that
she and Evie had picked out earlier that day from Evelyn's dresses. The two woman were almost the same height,
and the dress fit her perfectly.
"There, what do you
think?" Evelyn asked leading her
over to a full length mirror. Her hair
was pulled back at the sides, in twists, and she could hardly tell she had
scars on her face.
"Amazing," was all Abby could say. They both turned as they heard a crying baby
approaching, then Rick came with Emily.
"I think she might be
hungry," he told Evelyn.
"Or wet." He shook his head
"I took care of that
already." Evelyn took her baby,
and settled in the rocking chair, and Rick left the ladies to themselves. He and Alex were baby-sitting, and Jonathan
had gone to the hotel to get things ready for the nights events. Abby came over to where Evelyn sat.
"I want to thank you ahead of time
for helping like this," Abby said.
Evelyn smiled up at her friend.
"That is what family does,"
she said. She smiled and Abby smiled
back, then there was a knock at the door, and Alex came in.
"Abby Joe is here to take you to
the Hotel." She followed Alex out
and when the door closed Evelyn looked down at her baby.
"Well little angel, I think after
tonight, we will be having a celebration." Emily only responded with a sigh as she nursed, and Evelyn kissed
her soft head.
When they arrive at the Hotel, Joe took
Abby in the private entry to one of the dining rooms. It was empty, except for one table, and one man who stood when
she walked in. She smiled and walked
over to Jonathan, who kissed her, then took her coat for her, and helped her
sit down. Their dinner was served very
quickly, and Abby was surprised by what he had served which was her favorite
dish, Lasagna. He poured wine for them
both and the meal was quite
"You really do look lovely,"
he told her for almost the 5th time that night. She just smiled, hearing him say that made her heart
flutter. He stood up then and came
around to her chair pulling it out so that she faced him. Then he knelt down on one knee, and Abby
felt her head swim with delight as he took her hand and put on it a ring.
"Abby, I have never found a woman
who has had this profound an effect on me, who has made me stop being such a
loathsome sort, and start caring about what is important, which my dear would
be you, and Kayla. I could give you all
that you wanted, riches and money, but really all I want to do is give you my
love. I want you to, want us to get
married, and have a family for ourselves.
Abigail will you be my wife?"
she nodded and he hugged her.
"Oh Jonathan I love you so
much." He kissed her cheek.
"I love you too. Now lets dance." Music started to play, and he took her into
the middle of the room and they danced the waltz. She fumbled a little, then caught on, and enjoyed it. Her dreams were coming true, and she felt so
loved, that all the hurt she had ever experience faded in the back ground over
powered by the love of the man who held her in his arms.

O'Connell do belong to me, and you must ask before you use them. Added too this, Barney, the name of Rick's
horse came from what I found on the Ultimate Edition DVD. Apparently, Brendan named his camel that, so
I thought it only fitting that the character Brendan portrayed as Rick

Chapter 6 : Preparations
There was excitement in the air, at
O'Connell Manor, as time for a wedding no one thought they would ever see, drew
near. Today Jonathan, Rick, and Alex
had gone out to look at a home Jonathan wanted to purchase for his soon to be
family, leaving the woman to themselves.
Right now Abby was sitting in the Parlor, reading to Kayla ,who was now
five months old, and learning to crawl.
Now however, the baby was content on her mum's lap, chewing on one of
her mum's fingers, as Abby read to her about the Velveteen Rabbit. As she turned the page, to the part where
the rabbit, talked to the skinned horse about being real, Evelyn walked in with
Emily who was now two months old, and awake, facing forward against her mum's
stomach, and a little over Evelyn's arm.
She liked to see what was going on, and preferred to be held that
way. Abby looked up as they approached.
"I was thinking that you and I
should go out, and look at dress for you." Abby frowned.
"I know. I thought about that as
well, however I don't feel right having Jonathan purchase that for me. I have an old dress that should
work," she responded, letting Kayla down to crawl. Evelyn sat down beside her friend.
"I decided that I want to help
with that." Abby felt guilty about
that as well, but Evelyn wasn't going to take no for an answer. After the women got the girls in warm
sweaters, and into their slings, they left for town.
The first store they went to, was the
only store they needed. Unbeknown to
her soon to be sister-in-law, Evelyn had found a dress she thought would be
beautiful on Abby, and when they arrived she pointed it out.
"It's very beautiful."
"Try it on," Evelyn told her shifting Emily to one side
and taking Kayla who was asleep. The
baby rested her head on Evies left shoulder, remaining asleep. They only had a small wait, before Abby came
out dressed in a beautiful creme colored gown.
It had a long train, and the sleeves while long were made of fine lacy
fabric.
"I love this," Evie smiled
"I do to," So the dress was purchased, and put into a
box. The next stop was at a small cafe,
and the ladies settled near the back, so that Evelyn could feed Emily without
prying eyes to watch. They got a
highchair for Kayla, who was getting fussy for her own meal. Abby got her bottle out, and the baby
quited, and drank from that while the women ordered lunch.
"I can't believe that the wedding
is less than a month away, " Abby said sipping her tea.
"I know, do you want a big wedding
or a small wedding?" Evelyn asked
her as she covered her baby while she nursed.
"Small, I just want you, Rick,
Alex and Emily present." Evelyn
had not asked about her family, and chose now to see about them.
"No family?" she asked.
"No. They disowned me when I became pregnant with Kayla." Their food arrived, and Abby took the side
dish of mashed potatoes she had orderd, and fed some to Kayla.
"Are they from London?" Evelyn asked a little curious.
"Yes, they live in town in the
nicer section. My father is a ship
builder, and my mum spends his money.
She always has woman's clubs, or did." The rest of the mea,l they talked about where the wedding should
be, and Abby requested they have a small outdoor wedding in the garden at the
Manor, which Evelyn liked the sound of.
When the guys arrived back at the
manor, all was quiet. Rick found a note on the hall table, which told him where
the ladies had gone too.
"Where did they go?" Jonathan asked, as Alex ran past them to go
build a new model ship that his father had gotten for him.
"Shopping for a wedding
dress," Rick said. Jonathan nodded.
"It still feels so strange to
me. I want to marry her, but I'm afraid
I won't be what she or Kayla needs, or that old habits will come
back." He referred to his days of
gambling and drinking. The two men
settled in the parlor, and Rick poured them both a bourbon.
"Believe me when I tell you, that
once you are married to her, you won't ever think back, or miss the old
days. I thought the same thing a few
days before Evelyn and I got married.
Then when it happened, and we had our honeymoon, I only looked forward
to the future, and I still do."
That made Jonathan feel better.
"Well I hope she doesn't mind that
I bought her a house as a wedding present.
Have you and Evie decided what you are going to do with my part of the
house?" Rick took a sip of his
bourbon and set it down on the oak coffee table that was in front of them.
"Alex wants us to let him move in
there. I think that is a reasonable
request, because once Emily is old enough he will need a place to
hide." Rick smiled, and Jonathan
didn't catch what he was getting at.
"When I lived in the orphanage,
the only thing I could remember ,when I was older, was wanting
privacy." Jonathan nodded
understanding that.
"You think Evelyn will go for having
him on the other side of the house?"
Jonathan asked as set his still full glass of bourbon down. That brought a grin to Rick's face.
"Once I tell her she can be as
noisy as she wants when we have sex, she will agree." Jonathan groaned, and Rick laughed. Then
they heard a baby crying, as the front door opened, and Rick knew it was his daughter. Both of the gentlemen went to the front of
the house, and greeted their loves.
Abby Had Kayla asleep in her arms, while carrying a few bags, and gladly
let Jonathan take her. At being moved
the little baby woke up, and when she saw it was Jonathan she snuggled against
his shoulder and went back too sleep.
Emily was in the sling having a fit as Evelyn set down her bags, and
Rick, after giving his wife a kiss, lifted his daughter out.
"Hey little Princess." He cradled her in his arms and swayed, and
in a moment she opened her hazel eyes, which matched her mum's. While Jonathan and Abby headed to their part
of the house, Rick held Emily in one arm and carried some of the bags into the
parlor.
"It looks like you two bought out
half of London," He said to his
wife.
"We just had fun, I'm going to
like having a sister-in-law." She
said as they entered the parlor.
In their part of the house Jonathan
settled Kayla in her crib, then went over to where Abby was getting cloths out,
which Evelyn had bought for the baby, including a dress for the wedding. She smiled when she felt his arm snake
around her waste, and felt herself pulled up against his body. Jonathan nuzzled her neck, and she tilted
her head back against his chest.
"I'm ready for us to be married so
we can consummate our love," she
said in a seductive tone. It was
getting harder, and harder to behave, but Abby felt strong about waiting until
they were married before she and Jonathan made love. Thankfully Jonathan agreed with that. Right now they just enjoyed little kisses and some touching.
"Shall we go for a walk before
dinner?" he asked her.
"What about..." Before she could finish there was a knock at
the door, then Alex came in with his model ship parts.
"If I didn't know better, I would
think you planned this," she said
looking up at him.
"Never." Alex grinned at them. It had not been a happy thought, at first,
to think of his Uncle having someone in his life, but seeing him this happy,
made Alex happy.
"I guess then we should go for a
walk." He helped her put her
sweater on, and they left.
It was getting chilly out, but not too
cold, and as the walked down by the field, Jonathan held Abby's hand in
his.
"Are you going to tell me where we
are honeymooning?" she asked.
"If you really want to
know." He remembered how Rick had
waited, until he and Evie were ready to go on the ship before he told her, and
decided to be kinder to his fiancée.
"Part of me does," she admitted. "Then the other part of me wants it to be a surprise. Oh just tell me." He smiled and gently pulled her in front of
him so that they were looking at one another.
"I remember you telling me how you
wanted to go to Switzerland to see the Blue Ice Gratto, so that is where we are
going. I have rented a cabin in the
little village that is just below that, for a month.
"But what about Kayla?" He held her in his arms.
"Evelyn and Rick have offered to
keep her." She sighed, and he knew
she was troubled by something.
"Tell me what is wrong
hmm." Jonathan said, as he tilted
her head up, so he could see into her beautiful brown eyes.
"I have been thinking about my
parents, and my sisters. I want to tell
them about you, want you to meet them, but my father made it clear that I would
never be welcome in the house again if I decided to have my baby." Hurt was in her voice, and Jonathan held her
in his arms.
"Maybe we should go
together."
"You really want to do that, my
father is as stubborn as an ox."
Jonathan kissed the top of her head.
"I want you to be happy Abby, and
I will do what it takes to help you find that." She sighed.
"Then I want to make a try for
this." He nodded, and they
continued to walk along the field. The
horses all ran over to them.
"What are their names?" I keep forgetting, Abby told him.
"The black one belongs to Alex,
and his name is Seti. The brown one is
a mare, and her name is Amunet, and is 19, Evelyn got her a year after our
parents passed away. The gray and black
on is my mine his name is Echidna, which in Egyptian means monster, and he was
that, when he was younger. I got thrown
over the fence more times than I can count.
Echidna, hearing Jonathan's voice, came to the fence, and Abby pressed
closer to her fiancée.
"Shh, he is past his
youthfulness." Jonathan pet his
muzzle, and Abby reached out, and found that this horse really was a gentle
sort.
"What about the other black horse?" Jonathan grinned.
"That is Rick's, and the only one
that doesn' t have an Egyptian name for that matter. His name is Barney. Abby
laughed.
"I could see him doing that. I've been meaning to ask you that. I love this place but do we get place of our
own?" she asked. He smiled.
"In time we will." The house would remain a surprise. They walked to the end of the property which
was almost two miles. It was dark by
then, but the two lovers didn't seem to notice.
Inside dinner was ready, and Alex came
in with Kayla, flying her.
"Alex thats a little rough
honey," Evelyn said taking the
baby from her son. She settled Kayla in
the highchair. Then Marie served
dinner. She also held Emily who was
awake, but content. Once dinner was
served, the guys told Evelyn about the new house.
"It's not very big, but Uncle John
said he wants a smaller place because its more cozy. It has a barn too, so he will take Echidna with him. I asked him if he is going to get a horse
for Kayla and for Abby, and he said later." Alex was excited about all of this.
"How far is the house from where
we are now?" Evelyn asked as she spooned some strained peas into Kayla's
open mouth.
"About 15 miles west," Rick answered. Just then the couple came in ,acting like to children. Abby was on Jonathan's back laughing, and
everyone at the table chuckled. He put
her down and they joined the group.
Seeing her mum caused Kayla to start to fuss, but Evelyn solved that,
and lifted her out and handed her to Rick, who carried her over to her mum.
"Did you have a good time with
Alex?"
"She did. I made her a tower with my old blocks and
she kept knocking them down. Mum may I
be excused and may I play with Emily?"
he asked. His plate was fairly
clean, so Evelyn let him go.
"Where did you two wonder of
too?" Evelyn asked.
"We just walked out by the field,
and I told he the names of all the horses.," Jonathan said looking up from playing a game of peek-a-boo with
Kayla.
"Actually I was wondering if you
could watch her for us tomorrow. We are
going to her families." Neither
Evelyn nor Rick objected, and after dinner everyone retired for the evening in
their own rooms.
The next day was sunny, but chilly, as
most fall days in London were. Abby had
tried to call her parentsr but when her father answeredr and heard her voice he
hung up. Now they arrived at the
Worthington estate, and found the gate open, and drove up the long drive to a
house that was half again as big as Rick and Evie's place. There was a fountain in the front drive
which was a circle. As Jonathan stopped
the car, an gentleman looking to be in his 6os stepped out. He was muscular, and Jonathan could see in
part where Abby got her looks. She had
his nose, which was small.
"Here we go," Abby said, and Jonathan stepped out first.
"May I help you?" Mr.
Worthington asked.
"Yes sir, I'm Jonathan..."
When Abby stepped out the man's eyes got very large.
"If my daughter has cause you any
trouble then I will pay what you need, you need only to ask it."
"Sir..."
"Henry," he said sternly, eyeing his daughter.
"Henry your daughter has done
nothing wrong. I've asked her to marry
me." Henry nearly choked on the
cigar smoke he had just inhaled.
"You don't want her good man,
she's whore." Abby just stood by her Fiancée, letting Jonathan's
love for her be her strength
"Put in that position to take care
of her daughter, and forced to endure things she should not have. We want you to meet your grandchild, and to
be a part of our lives," Jonathan
stated simply. A woman came out of the
house and ran past her husband and hugged her daughter.
"Oh my Abigail I've missed you
so." Henry took his leave.
"Mum I've missed you as well. This is Jonathan, he is my
Fiancée." They explained things to
Betty, and she was more excepting of things than her husband.
"Don't worry about your father, he
has been regretting things for quite some time, and if you don't mind I want to
give you a proper wedding shower with your sisters and your aunts present.
"Oh mum I love you." On the drive home Abby was beaming, and
Jonathan felt wonderful. They had set
things right, and now all that was left were parties and a Wedding.

Chapter 7 : Parties and a Wedding
It was a busy day for everyone. Today was Abby's wedding shower, and
Jonathan's Bachelor party, and everyone was busy getting ready for the two
parties. In the parlor, Alex was
watching his sister, and his cousin, who at the present moment was laughing as
he put a blanket over her head, and pulled it away, playing her favorite game,
which was peek-a-boo. He held Emily on
his lap, who was sucking on his thumb.
He wasn't all that happy because he was going to the wedding
shower. His dad, and Uncle John were
going down to the resort where their party would take place, and said that it
was not a place for Alex to be.
Once Kayla got tired of things,
she crawled over to her baby that Aunt Evie had gotten her. It was a rag doll, and Kayla loved to hold
it, and give it hugs. She was 6 months
old now, and Emily 3.
"Well Emily do you want to
fly?" Alex laid on his back, and
lifted his sister above him. She
grinned as he blew in her face, then lowered her to his face giving her a kiss before lifting her back up, then
down for another kiss. When he lifted
her againr she spit up, and it landed right on his face.
"Oh yuck." Evelyn had come in at that point.
"Did you get your brother
messy?" she askedr as she took her daughter into her arms, and gave Alex
the burp cloth to wipe off with.
"You don't have to tell me, the
reason you say not to do thatr is because she spits up." He left to change into his suit, as Abby came with Kayla's dress.
"I'm so nervous about seeing
everyone, though mum called and said that my father is going down to the
bachelor party." Abby saidr as she
got her baby undressed, and into the soft floral dress they had picked out for
the occasion. Emily had on a matching
dress that had little pants that went under the dress. Once the babies were ready, and Alex was
ready, they left for the Worthington's.
At the hotel, several guests arrived,
and Jonathan met his inlaws. Abby had
two older brothers, not as old as Jonathan or Rick for that matter, but they
were nice men, and as the party got
underway, Abby's father showed up which surprised Jonathan.
"I'm glad you could come. Henry this is my brother-in-law Rick
O'Connell." Henry shook his hand.
"I've seen you in news reels with
the finds at Hamunaptra and Ahm-Sher,
he said. Rick was thankful that
he decided not to ask about that. The
rest of the people were all old buddies of Jonathan's, and a few of his friends
brought in some of the more lovely ladies, and Jonathan, to his credit didn't
take any interest in them, which earned big points with his Father-in-law.
When Pierre, the O'Connells driver,
pulled the car up to the Estate, Alex was the first to comment.
"Woe, does the Queen live
here?"
"Alex that was very
rude," Evelyn reprimanded, but
Abby defended him.
"Don't worry Evelyn. My parents have many parties, and go for the
best," she explained as she lifted her sleeping daughter to her
shoulder. When the car was parked, a
beautiful woman, who Abby resembled came out of the house, followed by three
young girls, and Alex groaned.
"Mum. I'll clean my room without you asking for a month if I can stay
in the car with Pierre," he
begged.
"No,' was her answer ,and they all
got out.
"Abby, oh and my
grandbaby." Abby let her mum hold
Kayla, who stayed asleep.
"She is so beautiful, your father
will spoil her rotten." Then Betty greeted Evelyn, and Emily who unlike
her cousin was wide awake.
"And you must be Alex. Abby told me you are a very good cousin to
my grandbaby. I have a grandson who is
four, and would love to have another boy to be with." That made Alex happy. They went inside, and Betty led them to a
huge Parlor, which had been decorated for the occasion, and where the rest of
the family waited. Alex was glad to be
led up to the second level where he met Zach.
Back downstairs Abby introduced Evelyn to all of her family then
everyone just chatted away, and no one to Abby's relief brought up her past. Betty and Evelyn made fast friends, and
talked about Egypt.
"I have been several times, but
never really to Cairo, or the pyramids.
Henry said he would take me one of these days. Well I better get present time going." She left, and Abby came over to her
sister-in-law.
"Did she talk your ear
off?" Abby asked.
"Not at all, she is an interesting
woman. They heard a crying baby
approaching, and Josephine, who was Abby's 14 year old sister and the baby,
came with Emily.
"I think she needs a bottle," Josephine said, as she let Evelyn take her.
"Thank you for watching
her." Abby smiled at her sister
who left.
"I need a place to feed
her," Evie said. Betty came over then.
"Does she need a
bottle?"
"Actually I need to nurse
her."
"Well then that shouldn't be a
problem I took to nursing all my
daughters despite my doctors telling me not too, and so have all my sisters
with their children." So Evelyn
settled on a couch, and draped a blanket over her, and in a moment her baby was
content.
Upstairs Alex was discovering what a
mischief maker his new friend was. Zach
led Alex to the third level, where a pool was.
"Can you swim?" Zach asked his friend
"Uh yeah but I'm not sure we
should do that." Alex said.
"Oh don't be a chicken." A challenge.
"I'm older than you are, and not a
chicken." The boys stripped down
to their under cloths and jumped into the warm water.
"I can touch the bottom,
" Zach said, and he went under and
showed Alex. The more they played the
more comfortable Alex was with doing so. They chased one another around the
marble flooring, and swam having a grand time.
"Alex you can't get me," Zach
said as he climbed out of the pool and ran away. He as close to the edge of the pool and slipped in hitting his
chen and went under. Alex saw red
water, and Zach wasn't trying to come up, so he dove in and pulled the little
boy out he coughed and started screaming.
"It's okay shh." Alex got a towel and wrapped it around him
noticing that his chin was bleeding something awful. Zach had settled down, and
Alex held a towel to the cut, worried about getting in trouble for letting Zach
talk him into something he knew they should not have done.
"We need to get it taped
up," Zach said of his cut.
"Yeah do you know where the stuff
is to do that?" Zach nodded and after they got dressed again, he led Alex
to his room and his bathroom, and got out gauze and tape, just as his mum
walked in
"What happened. Zachary did you get in the pool?" He nodded, and got his bottom smacked for that.
"Alex I'm sorry he knows the rules
about using the pool," His mum,
Katelyn taped his wound after using Iodine, then they all went back downstairs
where the party was winding down.
Evelyn gave Alex a scolding for going into the pool, but then let it go,
and they gathered up the many presents putting them in the car and headed for
the Manor.
A few weeks later, on a Saturday
morning, the Manor was decorated for a wedding. Abby and Jonathan had a beautiful day to get married in, and it
was even fairly warm. The guests began
to arrive around noon that day, and Zach was among the first to arrive dressed
in a tuxedo as he was to be the ring barer.
He and Alex played up in Alex's room with cars while the company
arrived.
"Alex will you watch Emily for
me," his mum asked, bringing her in.
She was dressed in a soft gown, and fussy.
"Sure mum." He took her and she cried more.
"Oh shush," he told her,
laying her on his bed. She got more
angry at that, and Zach came with a soft bear.
"Try this," he said. Alex held the bear in front of her, and she
continued to cry. Then Rick came
in. He was also dressed in a Tux.
"Alex you need to get ready,"
he said as he lifted his daughter into his arms making sure he had the burp
cloth secure. Once in his arms, Emily
calmed down almost instantly, rubbing her face against her burp cloth. Rick settled on the bed, and rocked her, and
in a bit she was asleep.
"How's it going Alex?" Rick
asked. In a moment his son came out
dressed up for the occasion, and the only thing left was his tie. Someone knocked at the door, and Katelyn
entered taking Zach with her downstairs.
"This is strange," Alex said as his dad finished fixing his
bowtie.
"How so?" Rick asked.
"I feel like I'm loosing Uncle
John. I mean I'm glad he and Abby are
getting married, but it's going to be lonely without him, them here." Rick nodded.
"Your right. He has lived here all of your
life." Alex nodded.
"I should have more time on my
hands now that I'm going to work with Henry contracting the ship building
business, and we can go on more trips.
"Will we take princess with
us," he said of his sister, who
was asleep in the crook of Rick's right arm.
"When she is older, and if she
wants to come, but I think those trips should be just for us." Alex nodded, and at that moment Evelyn came
in dressed in a dark blue dress.
"Wow mum you look absolutely
beautiful," Alex said. Rick looked up and agreed.
"Thank you two. We need to get down there or they will start
without us. She took her baby, and
they all went downstairs and outside.
Now Alex Rick, Abby's two brothers,
Brett, and Adam, and Jonathan stood in front of the garden with the
priest. A trumpet began to play wedding
music, and the bridal party began their procession down the Isle. Evelyn was first, and smiled at her two
handsome men. Abby's three sisters
followed and then the Wedding march began, and on her fathers arm, came the
bride. Jonathan gulped. This was the big moment, and he felt like he
was going to mess it all up. When she
came to him, and her father lifted her veil, Jonathan relaxed. She was beautiful, his wife, or soon to
be. The priest began with a prayer, and
vows were said. Rings were given, and
anther prayer was said, then it was time for the groom to kiss the bride. Jonathan did this gently, and then everyone clapped,
and the party began. Josephine brought
Emily, and Evelyn disappeared to feed her, and Lilly brought Kayla to her new
father.
"There she is." Jonathan lifted her into the air, then held
her close, and she snuggled against his shoulder. Kayla was going to stay with the Worthington's while Jonathan and
Abby went on their honeymoon. Everyone
went back into the house, and Evelyn called everyone into the dining room for
cake cutting time. She took Kayla from
her brother, and he and Abby took the first pieces of cake, making a mess as
they fed one another, then they shared the first glass of wine. Everyone else got their cake and punch, and
moved into the parlor which had been cleared out for dancing, and that began
shortly after. The first dance was of
the Bride and the Groom, and right now not a soul existed except for Jonathan
and Abby.
"I'm so happy Jonathan," she
told him.
"Me too," He kissed her, and the music ended, then
more was played and everyone else joined in.
Alex sat watching when Josephine came over.
"Do you want to dance with
me?" she asked him. He looked around, and she giggled.
"Sure but I'm only
nine," he told her, weary of this.
"So what its just a party, "
she said pulling him to his feet. He
was taller than she was.
"Your short." She sighed.
"Don't rub it in, I'm the runt of my family." They danced a waltz, and a little a way,
Evelyn noticed he son and got Rick's attention.
"Already a lady
charmer," she said to her husband.
"Just like his dad," Rick said beaming with pride. He pulled her in closer, and then felt a tap
at his shoulder and found Jonathan there.
"May I cut in?" he nodded, and Rick went over and asked Abby
to dance. Jonathan spun his sister
around. Then hugged her close.
"So how are you feeling?" she
asked him.
"Giddy, and I never thought I
would be this happy." She smiled.
"You deserve to be you
know," she replied.
"Now I know why you and Rick are
kissing all the time. I have a feeling
Alex is going to disown all of us for being to mushy."
"Not all of us." She pointed out that Alex was dancing with
Josephine.
"Well I'm surpised." The music ended, and some more up beat music
was played. The party lasted well into
the night, then it was time to end.
Jonathan and Abby saw Kayla off with her grandparents, then went into
the now empty house. The parlor was a
mess, and, on a sofa Alex slept with Emily on his chest. Rick and Evelyn came in from seeing the last
of the company home.
"Well I guess we should head to
our room," Abby said.
"Nope. I have a present for you."
They said goodnight to Rick and Evelyn, and Abby left with her new
husband confused. Now Rick and Evie
stood holding one anther.
"It's going to be different with
them in another house, " Evelyn
said softly.
"Yes but you forget that with Alex
in Jonathan's old room, that we can be as noisy as we want. at least until
Emily is old enough to wake up too us."
Evelyn smiled.
"Lets get those two to bed,, and
make a lot of noise." He nodded
and while she took Emily, Rick carried Alex to his new room. He tucked his son under the coves without a
peep, and when he got back to his and Evie's room she was laying on the bed
undressed. He shut the door, and
prepared to make his wife cry out with the passion and love he was about to
give her.

Chapter 8 : Surprises
When Jonathan led her out to the car,
after the party, Abby was puzzled by her new husband's behavior, but she
trusted him, and while they drove, she leaned against him.
"Are you tired?" he asked
her.
"A little. I'm so happy about us being married, but
afraid that you won't love me."
Jonathan kissed her head.
"Abby I love you, and nothing will
ever change that." The rest of the
trip was made in silence, and his new bride
fell asleep. When he pulled up
to the house, and stopped the car, she woke up and looked about.
"Whose place is this?" she asked.
He grinned.
"Our place." It was almost to much to believe.
"Oh Jonathan this is so
wonderful." She wrapped her arm
around his neck, and pulled his head down, and they kissed, not tender kisses
like they had done while they were courting, but a passion filled kiss, one
that sent fire running through their veins
When they parted both were out of breath.
"I guess we can take a tour
later," He said. He got out of the car, and helped her
out. Then when she was standing, he
lifted her in to his arms, and carried her into their new home. It was almost cabin style, much different
then the manor home, but Abby loved it.
However she didn't get to see much, as Jonathan covered his mouth over
hers, kissing her, searching her mouth with his tongue. Abby moaned holding tighter to him, as her
whole body tingled with sensation. She
didn't even notice they had entered their room, not until she felt her back
pressed against the mattress. She was
still in her dress, and he, still in his Tux, but not for very long as he
undressed himself first, and then her.
Now they lay next to one another on their sides, facing eac other. Abby traced down his right arm noticing his
shoulder had a scar on it.
"What happened there?" she
asked him.
"Oh, that. Well in Egypt there are scarabs, and I
happened to pick up larval form before I knew what it was, and it bore under my
skin. Rick had to cut it out of me." She leaned in and kissed his scar.
"I thought Scarabs only ate dead
flesh". That part was true, but
the scarabs they were dealing with, were part of curse. Jonathan tilted her head and took her mouth in a kiss, and all talk of scarabs, for the moment, left them,
and they began to kiss, and explore one anothers bodies. Abby had given her body for sex as a job,
but this was far more than just sex.
Every touch, every sensation was like a new experience, and she savored
each and every caress of her husbands hands and lips over her. When their bodies were set a flame with
touch and need, Jonathan moved over his wife, and in one slow movement he was
inside of her warm folds. Abby wrapped
her legs around his waste, and he sank in deeper. Both of them moaned at that feeling, then Jonathan kissed her
lips, licking over them, while at the same time setting a slow rocking movement
in and out of her body. They made love
well into the night, then sleep found the two newlyweds, and thoughts of a life
time washed over them, as they dreamed sweet dreams of the future as a family.
Night at the Worthington's was not
peaceful. Kayla had done well playing
with her new family, and even gone to bed without a hitch. Now she was awake, screaming as her Nanna tried
to soothe her. Henry came in with her
bottle, but she pushed it away.
"Should we call the doctor,"
he asked, worried for her.
"No, she is just upset, not used
to us yet." Betty walked with her
for a long time, and she was still screaming.
She looked at the clock which said it was 2am, and tried putting her to
bed, but that made her more upset. Most
children gave up after a while, but not Kayla, and feeling helpless, she called
the O'Connells. After two rings, Alex
picked up. He had snuck the phone in
his room.
"Alex?"
"Yeah its me."
"I hate to have you do this, but
Kayla is really upset, and we are worried. We think its just because she
doesn't know us well enough, can you ask your parents to come take
her."
"Sure." He got off the phone, and went to the other
part of the house, hearing his own
sister crying, and went in to her room.
Mum was just settling with her when he walked in.
"Betty called and said Kayla is
really upset, I heard her screaming, but they think she is just not ready to be
with them yet." Emily had stopped
crying, and was now nursing.
"Go wake daddy, and you two go get
her," Evelyn said yawning. He nodded and ran out, and Evelyn smiled
down at her daughter who had her eyes closed.
"You get your cousin
back," Evie told her daughter, and
kissed her soft forehead. While she
nursed her, Alex and Rick left, and arrived at the Estate a few minutes before
three. They were greeted at the door by
Betty and Kayla who was still crying, resting her head on her nanna's shoulder.
"I'm sorry about this," she
said as she handed the baby to Rick.
"Hey Kayla shhh." She knew her uncle, and in a few moments
calmed down. Alex got her bag, and they
left. When he was seated int he back of
the car Rick started to put the baby in his arms, and she started to cry
again. Since Rick had to drive, Alex
had to deal with his screaming cousin, who screamed all the way back to the
manor. When they got home she was even
upset at Rick. When they walked in
Evelyn greeted them with a bottle, and took her into the parlor. Aunt Evelyn got the little girl calmed down.
"You didn't have a long enough
nap, and your cousin Alex used to do this when he didn't get enough
sleep." Kayla fell asleep before
she finished the bottle, and when she had finished, she carried the baby to
Alex's room, where the other crib was.
He was still awake, and after she put the baby down she came over to
him.
" You need to go to bed
honey." He sighed.
"Okay. " He let her tuck him in, and sleep soon found
him.
Being in the Swiss Alps, would have
been wonderful, except that the third day of their arrival, Abby came down with
a terrible cold. They had been up to
the Gratto already, but being sick had not been part of the plan, at least not
for her, and she felt terrible. Now she lay in bed coughing a terrible
cough, when Jonathan came in with a trey laden with fresh fruit, tea, and
broth. That made her smile.
"I'm so sorry," she said for
the millionth time.
"Abby, everyone gets sick, and its
not the end of the world. Besides this
way I get to take care of you," he
told her as he settled the trey on her bed.
After doing so, he walked to her side of the bed, and helped her sit up, then sat with her and pulled the trey over her
lap.
"Mmm this looks very good,"
she said. She ate the orange first,
which tasted sweet, and good. Next was
a rich thick beef broth, that warmed her chilled body, then the tea.
"I feel so sleep now," she
admitted.
"Well then we will both rest until
you are well," he said setting
they trey aside, and leaning them back against the mattress. Abby snuggled into his embrace, turning so
that her head rested against his chest.
"When I get better I want us to
hike back up to the Gratto. It's so
beautiful up there." She was
getting tired, and soon was sleep in his arms.
A month passed, and today Evelyn, Rick,
Alex, and the two babies waited at the port for the ship to come in, with Uncle
John and Aunt Abby. In his arms, Alex
held Kayla, who was bundled in a warm sweater and little hood., and rested her
head on his shoulder. Rick held Emily
in his arms keeping a blanket over her, due to her ear infection. They heard the ship whistle, which startled
Kayla and she started to cry. Alex let
his mum take her
"Shh, its just a big boat baby
see." She pointed ,and Kayla
looked as the ship pulled in.
"Look I see them." Alex ran up the ramp as soon as it was
lowered, and Jonathan got knocked down by his hug.
"Woe there partner." Abby who stood next to them smiled, then saw
her baby, and ran down the ramp to her sister-in-law, and Kayla reached for
her.
"OH my goodness you have grown
like a weed, and you have a new sweater and hat." She hugged Evie then, and Rick, as well as
Emily. Then Jonathan came down from the
boat, and Kayla looked at him, and
reached for him. He took her lifting
her into the air and she laughed at that.
Once he had gotten hugs and kisses he gave her back to Abby, and Rick
handed Emily to Evelyn, and the two men
got the bags loaded into the
cars. One Pierre had driven ,and One Rick had driven.
"Are you two going to come by this
evening?" Rick asked Jonathan as they got into separate cars.
"We might, it's been a long
trip." Rick nodded and got into
their car, and then Jonathan went to his car and got in with Abby and Kayla.
"Are we going to see them
tonight?" she asked.
"Are you up for that?" She frowned.
"Jonathan, I'm feeling
better." She had been having
stomach problems for the past few days, and guessed it was due to the storms,
and the way their ship had been tossed about.
During the drive home Kayla fell asleep in her mum's arms. When they arrived it was beginning to
rain. Jonathan got out of the car, and
came around to Abby's side, lifting his baby into his arms, then helping his
wife out, and led them inside. It was
all cozy, and he smiled, they both smiled realizing that someone had been there
to light the fire, to warm up their home
Being inside, Kayla struggled in her mum's arms and after getting her
sweater off of her, Abby set her down and she was off before either of them
could think a thought. They went after
her, and when they got in to the small parlor, she was going for the
fireplace. Jonathan reached her in two
steps, and lifted her into his arms.
"I think we are going to have to
get a playpen for you," he told her.
She struggled to be put down, but Jonathan held on to her, and took
Abby's hand and they went upstairs to the bedrooms. There were four of them as well as a bathroom in each. The first room was Kayla's and he set her
down there and she crawled over to her toys.
"I think she likes it
here," Jonathan said pulling Abby
around, so she stood in front of him, then pulled her into his arms. He kissed her, then Kayla came and started
to fuss, so they settled down on the floor and played with her a bit.
It was the next morning that Abby woke
up sick. Jonathan heard her in the
bathroom retching, and got up, going to her as she was finishing..
"I hate this. I keep thinking I'm better then morning
comes and I get sick again," she told him, as he helped her stand. He got a clean wash cloth, and wiped her
face off, then helped her take a sip of water and got her back to bed.
"There could be a reason for you
being sick," he said as he settled back in bed next to her. She rolled over to face him.
"Jonathan its a flu virus, nothing
more," He remembered both times
Evelyn had been pregnant, all of her morning sickness, and Abby was doing the
same thing.
"When Evelyn was pregnant with
both her babies, she had episodes where she was only sick in the morning, well
with Alex it was morning and nights."
Her eyes grew big, as she realized that her monthly cycle had not come
yet. It was actually due two weeks ago.
"But I didn't do this with
Kayla," she said, not believing
that this was happening. It wasn't bad,
but she wanted more time with Kayla before they had more babies.
"I guess I need to see Doctor
Brown," she told him.
"I'll take you, and if you are, we
can surprise everyone at dinner."
He pulled her closer and they kissed.
Jonathan reached over her and pulled her waste against his hard penis
and she gasped at feeling him.
"We keep this up and we will have
a whole house full of babies," she said nipping her way down his
neck. She eased him on his back and
removed her gown, then started to strattle him when Kayla woke up crying. Both
let out a groan, but the baby came first. Jonathan got out of bed and went down
the hall to his daughters room. When he
walked in he found her standing, and called for Abby, who came running.
"She is standing. Look at my big girl." While Abby lifted her out of the crib
Jonathan laid out cloths for her, then together they got her dressed, and
headed down for breakfast.
"What is your pleasure Mrs. Carnahan?" he asked his wife.
"I think scrambled Eggs for all of
us, and toast." She got a bottle
for Kayla, and sat in one of the chairs holding her while she drank from
it. What amazed Abby was that her
husband could cook. Jonathan had
explained to her that their Nanny, when he and Evie had been children, had
tought them basics. From there Jonathan
learned on his own. how to make more fancy dishes. He couldn't make everything but enough to make dinners
interesting. Once breakfast was served,
Abby settled Kayla in her highchair and they began to eat.
"I can't imagine having two babies
with Kayla only being 16 months old, "
Abby said.
"I can help you know," he pointed out. She knew this, and love Jonathan, but right now in their lives,
having another baby was, or the thought of that frightened her. She would be glad when she could go talk to
Evelyn.
Dinner at the O'Connells that night was
everyone back at the same table, and it was nice to have the old group
there. Evelyn noticed how quiet her
brother and Abby were, and she and Rick looked at each other. It was so soon for them to be having
problems with their marriage.
"So how is the new house,"
Evelyn asked no one in particular. Abby
got up and ran out, and Evie looked at Jonathan who sat there, then excused
herself and left to check on her.
"Alex why don't you take Kayla and
Emily in to the parlor," Rick
said. He did as he was told, managing
both babies, one in one arm and one in the other. Once he was out of earshot Rick broached the subject.
"So whats going on?" Jonathan finally looked up.
"We found out she is
pregnant. But she is upset by
this. How can she be upset, this is our
first child together. Kayla is my daughter, oh bloody hell I'm already making a mess of
this marriage, and it isn't even two months old yet." He was miserable, and Rick could tell.
"Would it make you feel any better
if I told you that Evelyn and I are going to add another one to the
nest," Rick said to him. Jonathan looked up
"But she just had
Emily." That was true. Emily was
just now 4 months old, and it would be very busy when the next baby arrived,
but here they were.
"So how is Evie taking
it?" he asked relieved not to have
to deal with his worries for the moment.
"She was a little upset at first,
but the more we both think about it, the more excited we get." Jonathan nodded.
"Maybe Abby will feel that way
too." He could only hope.
In the bathroom Abby retched all she
had eaten before she and her family had arrived, and was startled when she felt
someone hold her hair back.
"I'm sorry, just trying to
help." Abby nodded and reched yet
again, until her stomach was empty.
When she was sure there would be no more, she let Evelyn help her stand
and washed her face as well as drink down a glass of water.
"I'm going to have a
baby," Abby told her sister in
law, then began to weep." Evelyn
hugged her.
"I don't know if I can handle two
of them so close in age. I always
thought of waiting until Kayla was at least potty trained, and now, I'm just so
afraid that I will mess it all up."
Evie led her up to her room, and they sat on the sofa. She got her sister-in-law a kerchief, and
Abby dabbled her eyes.
"Rick and I found out a week
before you and Jonathan got home that I'm going to have another baby, which
will put 12 months between my youngest two," Evelyn told her. That was
news.
"You must be scared." Evelyn smiled.
I was worried at first, but there was
such a long time when we wanted to have more after Alex, and when it didn't
happen I kept thinking it was me. So I
guess you could say we are making up for lost time," Evelyn said.
"So that puts your baby due four
weeks before ours." Evie nodded,
and Abby smiled feeling better. When
they returned to the men, Jonathan hugged Abby close and kissed her.
"I'm sorry I got so snappy, I just got surprised, I guess we both
did." He kissed her.
"So your not upset?" he
asked, and she smiled at him.
"Not anymore. Lets head home and put Kayla to bed, then we
can celebrate this the right way."
Jonathan smiled, and after saying goodbye to everyone, and gathering up
his daughter and her things, he and Abby left for their home for a private
night made just for two.

Chapter 9 : Celebration of Life
It had not taken long to get Kayla to
sleep. Jonathan had rocked her, telling
her the story of the little Princess, one that Evie had told Alex, and now told
to Emily. Once she was asleep he put
her in her crib, and kissed her. Then
he walked the short distance to his and Abby's room. When he entered it was lit just by candlelight, and he found Abby
laying on the bed in a sexy pink robe.
In that moment, he couldn't find the air to breath, or the words to
say. He simply starred at the beautiful
woman who lay before him.
"Jonathan," she said smiling at him. He shook his head.
"You're so beautiful," he
told her, and made his feet, and legs move, to take him over to the bed where
his wife lay. When he came to her, he
sat beside where she lay, and reached out his hand running it through her long
golden waves. Abby closed her eyes at
his touch, it always felt so right when he touched her, and anything he did
just made her feel that much more alive.
Jonathan's hand moved away from stroking through her hair, and he began
to trace the soft features of her face.
He used only his index finger to trace over her soft supple lips, then
moved it down over her chin to the soft skin on her neck.
"Jonathan kiss me," she
moaned. He leaned in, and took her lips
in his. The kiss was tender, and
gentle. He was in the mood to take
things slow this night, after all this was a celebration of life. He parted her lips with his tongue, while at
the same time his hands began to untie her robe. As his hands worked to undress her, her hands went to his button
down shirt, and began to undo each button slowly. When she got the last button undone ,she pushed the shirt down
over his arms. The kissing intensified
as each felt the touch of one another on their bodies. Jonathan eased away and romoved his shirt,
and then he leaned down and took off his shoes, and his sox. Next came his pants and his underwear,
leaving his body to her viewing.
"Lay on the bed, I want to touch
you," she told her husband. He
listened to her, and she stood dropping her robe so that her body was now
necked to his eyes. She crawled on the bed and lay next to him, and
he rolled on his side. His hand went to
her belly and she smiled at him.
"You can't feel anything
yet," she pointed out. His hand rubbed over her tummy regardless,
and for a moment she let herself go on the feelings he was invoking with in
her. Then she remembered that she
wanted to touch him, and gently pulled his hand away.
"This is my time, so
behave," she told him. She covered his mouth with hers before he
could protest. Her kiss was searching and
as her tongue moved into his mouth, her hand moved over his chest, over the his
paps, and he groaned into her mouth.
She rubbed her finger around that area, and he had a hard time not
touching her back. When she broke the
kiss, her mouth traveled down to where her fingers had been, and she moved her
body down so that her head was even with his paps. Abby licked first one then the other, and when she lightly
nibbled on one his hand moved her head and held her closer. His breathing was already coming in short
gasps, and he groaned when she moved away from his sensitive paps. She moved her way down to his belly, and
only lingered there for a moment before she moved lower still to his
Penis. She leaned over it, and looked
up finding that he was watching her.
Until Jonathan she had never liked having oral sex done to her, or doing
it to another man. With this man, her
husband, sharing the various forms of love making felt right, and built on her
love for him. She stuck out her tongue,
and used that to trace around the edge of his penis. Jonathan grabbed at the sheets on the bed and tried to focus on
breathing, though that task was becoming more and more difficult. When her tongue moved into his slit he
almost climaxed right there, but Abby knew what she was doing, and eased away
from him. She licked down around the
base of him and underneath to his sack.
She drew that into her mouth, and Jonathan had all the sensation he
could take. With gentle hands he
reached around her head and pulled, indicating that he needed her over
him. She came back to him and he eased
her onto her back. Abby watched his
eyes as he moved over her. Then when he
was in her, both let out a cry of pleasure.
He took her hands in his and held to her as he began to move in and out
of her soft folds. Her body was much
smaller than his, and it was a tight fit, but not one that she minded. As he moved in and out of her body, they
shared more kisses, and then he began to trail them down her neck. He let go of her hands and moved down to her
breasts, kissing each one, then nuzzled between them. Abby gasped at that, and he looked up at her.
"Keep doing that," she
breathed. He lowered his head, and his
teeth grazed over her right breast. She
let out a shrill cry and he did the same with the other one.
"I love it when you do
that," she said to him.
He moved back up to ther mouth and
kissed her, the gentleness of his
movements still slow and penetrating.
It took her by surprise when he suddenly moved completely out of
her.
"Oh don't do that to me
Jonathan," she said, her breath heavy.
"Just have faith in me
Abigail," he said to her, as he moved her legs apart and up. He propped one foot on one of his shoulders,
and the other on his other shoulder, so that he was between her, and she let
out a cry of pleasure, as she knew what he was about to do. He was kneeling and he scooted in and again he entered her Abby's cries of pleasure echoed the room,
and he idly hoped that Kayla was a good sleeper. He took long strokes, full strokes all the way in and out, and Abby reached up for his hands which he
took. His movements speeded up
somewhat, and he felt her begin to tighten around him. She was out of breath as was he, and their
bodies were covered in perspiration.
"I.. need you closer," she
said to him." He eased her legs
down, and moved back over her, and she wrapped her legs around his hips. His movements now were driving them both
toward completion, and her hips moved up to match his own. When her climax took her, he fought to draw
his out, but in the end the sensation, and the need for completion took over
and with one last move he spilled his seed into her depths. He eased down ontop of her resting his head
against her shoulder, and felt her hands rake though his hair. When their bodies relaxed he rolled to his
side bringing her with him, and in a matter of moments both of them were asleep
still joined in a loving embrace.
The next day, Jonathan had to go to
work. Today was bill day, and he hated
that, but that was life. As he got
dressed he didn't notice his daughter, not till she was tugging at his pants
leg.
"Your all dressed up," he said as he lifted her against his bare
chest. She rubbed her face against
him. Then Abby walked in.
"We are going to spend the day
with my mother and sisters." Abby
said as she came to him for her own kisses and snuggles. Kayla wanted down, so Jonathan put her in
one of the two playpens that they now had for her. She was one you had to keep a constant eye on. Once she was out of his arms, he took Abby
in her place.
"Do you want me to take you?"
he asked her.
"No, mum is going to send her
driver for us in an hour." He
nodded.
"I won't be long, I though perhaps
we might go find you a horse today, they are having sales at one of the premier
farms, he told her." She nodded.
"I'm not sure about riding
them." He hadn't thought about that.
With her being pregnant it might be a risk.
"We can still look."
"Sure we can, and if not for me
then we can get one for Kayla and whomever this baby is." She said rubbing her belly. She was finally beginning to warm to the
idea of this new life that she and Jonathan had created. Once he was gone, Abby made their bed, and
then gathered up a few odds and ends for the baby. By then her ride arrived and she left for her parents.
All of her family was thrilled with the
news of another baby to love, and while she and her mum talked, the girls kept
Kayla entertained.
"So what do you and Jonathan want
to have with this baby?" her mum
asked.
"A healthy baby, neither of us are
picky on that," she said as she sipped her tea.
"I'm still worried that I won't be
able to handle things on my own with this new life, Kayla." Her mum smiled.
"Well then you two need to start
teaching Kayla to do things on her, own, get her into a good sleeping habit so
that when they new baby arrives it won't be difficult".
"She actually does well. Jonathan usually reads to her, and rocks her
to sleep." Her mum disagreed with
that.
"She is getting old enough that
she needs to learn to get to sleep on her own." Before Abby could agree or disagree Josephine ran in.
"Can we take Kayla in the
pool?" she asked.
"No, not without me." Abby said, and she ran ahead of her sister,
which made both of them laugh. Their
day went well, and when Jonathan arrived Kayla was ready to take a nap.
"Why don't the two of you go look
at the horses, and Kayla can sleep here
with us." Nanna said. They agreed and left, and Kayla didn't cry
this time. Her nanna got her to sleep
fairly quickly, and placed her in one of the old cribs she still had up for her
grandbaby.
Dinner that night was at the Carnahan
home, and it was a little before six when Evelyn, Rick, and the kids
arrived. As they pulled up the house
Alex took notice of a new horse. It was
white, and beautiful. He held Emily on
his lap and waited till his mum took her, then ran to the fence.
"What do you think?" Jonathan asked as he came over to his
nephew.
"She is lovely," he told him.
"Yes she is, do you think that.
Echidna, will approve?" Jonathan asked.
"He should, so what is her name?" Abby came over with Kayla, Rick, Evelyn, and
their baby.
"I've named her Spirit," Abby told them. Jonathan drew her into his arms, and Rick smiled at his wife and
took her hand in his. It was good to
see Jonathan finally happy. He most of
all deserved to finally have all he had ever wanted, and though there would be
hard times ahead, as with anything in life, it was the love he had found with
Abby, and the love he had of family, that would hold them together through
anything.
THE END.
NOTE
I will write the next part to this which will be the birth of his child,
and Evelyn's next baby, but I want this story to stand on its own. R&R
