Summary: The next part of the story with The O’Connells and their three
daughters. I’m jumping ahead about to where they are already toddlers, thats
more fun I think but if you guys won’t a baby story with all of them I will do that
per request.
Disclaimer: The Mummy Movies do not belong to me. They belong to Stephen
Sommers and the wonderful people at Universal Studios. Elizabeth, Rebecca,
Louisa, and Nanna are mine. Actually Nanna I got off of a story I found at
another website when I first started writing and I’m sorry to say I can’t
remember the name of it, but the author said I could use a version of Nanna so
anyways here we go.
Three Little Princesses
Prologue:
Life had changed for the O’Connells. A few short years ago their adventures had
ranged from walking mummies to giant scorpions, and while there were still
adventures to be had, their biggest adventure arrived a little over two years
ago with the birth of identical girls. Elizabeth, Louisa and Rebecca were every
bit as adventurous as Alex had been at two, only there were three of them to
contend with. Though they all looked alike, with Evie’s dark hair and Rick’s
blue eyes, that is were the similarities stopped. Each of them had very
distinct personalities, though one thing they had in common was their unity.
None of them liked being without each other, and for Evie at least that
concerned her. She knew at some point they would go to school and have to be in
separate classes. For now the girls stayed home with Nanna and daddy while Evie
worked at the Museum, and Alex attended school and played Rugby as well as
Cricket.
Chapter 1: Introductions
The strongest willed of the three girls was Elizabeth. She didn’t have much
fear in anything and was always the first to try something new before either
Rebecca or Louisa would follow. Generally Elizabeth was the one to spend the
most time in the quiet chair, and the first to tell her parents ‘no’ if she
wasn’t willing to do something asked of her, or not to do something. Rick was
more humored than angered by her willful defiance, saying she reminded him of
Evie who had never given up on becoming apart of the prestigious Bembridge
Scholars, nor had she given up the life as an adventurer. Since the girls birth
she and Rick had been to South America and back to Egypt a few times leaving
Nanna behind to look after the girls. Rebecca was next as far as being willful
went, though a stern look from mum or dad usually ended her willfulness fairly
quickly. She and Elizabeth were more likely to interact with others than Louisa
who was the quiet one. Louisa hardly ever got into trouble, and both Rebecca
and Elizabeth did the talking for her, which was something both Rick and Evie
were having to work on, trying to teach her to say what she wanted instead of
pointing when she needed something.
Another Monday morning presented itself, and Evie sighed as she felt her
husbands body pressed against hers.
“I’m not sure I want to go to work,” Evie admitted, as she rolled over to face
him. Rick leaned in, and gave her a gently good morning kiss.
“I know. Weekends don’t count for much when you have four kids wanting
different things do they?” Rick asked looking into her beautiful hazel eyes.
“Maybe we need a vacation,” Evie replied sighing contentedly as he pressed her
head against his chest.
“Where should we go this time?” he asked softly, kissing the top of her head.
“Someplace romantic,” she whispered. Then the loud ringing of her alarm made
both of them jump. Rick reached over her and shut it off, though they were both
very much awake. After a good morning kiss, Evie was up, and got her robe on,
then went down the hall to get Alex, who was now 11, up. When she walked into
his room, she found him still very much asleep with both Siam and Cleo sleeping
with him.
“Goodmorning Alex,” Evie called out as she opened the shutters on his window
letting in the early morning light. Having stayed up late the night before,
reading another installment of his favorite series, King Author and the Knights
of the Round Table, getting up was not something Alex want to do. He pulled his
blankets up over his head in protest to his mum’s usual cheerful voice.
“Come on Alex time to get up darling,” Evie said. She moved to the end of the
bed, and lifted the covers finding a foot which she tickled until he was
squirming and laughing.
“All right I’m awake,” he said as she stopped.
“Good, because if you go to sleep I’m letting your sisters get you up,” Evie
said. The girls had their way of getting him up, which was to lay on him and
give him wet baby kisses which he wasn’t all that fond of. When she threatened
that, Alex mumbled a few words, then sat up stretching. Across from Alex’s
room, was where the three princesses slept. Rick, Alex, and Jonathan called
them princesses, and for the most part they were. Rick bought them anything
they asked for, which drove Evie crazy most of the time because she wanted them
to learn, like Alex had, that they couldn’t get everything they wanted. Their
room was almost as big as Rick and Evies room, with shelves full of dolls and
stuffed animals as well as books. They shared a large bed on the end of which
was a toy chest with dress up cloths in it. In the center of the room was a kid
sized table, with four chairs around it where they had tea parties, or where
they drew pictures. Among the other things found in their room, there were doll
beds for their babies, and doll highchairs, all things Rick had a few men at
his shipping firm make for them. Snug in their bed, Evie watched her three
daughters sleeping peacefully, always amazed at how angelic they looked when
they were asleep. After another few moments of watching them, she walked to the
bed and began to sing to them, giving each of her daughters kisses.
“Mummy seep if us,” Elizabeth said. Evelyn crawled in the bed with her little
girls, and they all snuggled up to her.
“It’s time to get up my angels,” Evie said after a few more minutes of
snuggling.
“Tay bed,” Rebecca said as she sucked her middle fingers. Evie smiled and
reached out moving her hair out of her face.
“What should you wear today? Will you help mummy decide?” Evie asked as she
eased out of bed. Louisa sat up and reached for her, and Evelyn smiled holding
her close as she moved over to the closet, where their dresses hung. With two
Aunts, and several friends, the girls had a whole closet full of dresses to
wear, and with the cold weather setting in, Evie selected the three dresses
made out of a corduroy material, and which had long shirts that went under
them.
“What do you think Louisa?” Evie asked.
“Dat do,” she said as she closed her eyes.
~*~
After getting dressed, Alex made it downstairs, finding Nanna with breakfast
served. He greeted her with a big hug, then sat down and let her serve him eggs
bacon and toast.
“Are your sisters getting up?” Nanna asked.
“I think so, I heard their bath running,” He said as he took a bite of bacon.
He finished one plate full of food, and had Nanna fill another plate, and was
working on that when Elizabeth ran in laughing. She was completely undressed
and soaking wet. Nanna caught her hugging her close despite her wet state.
“Where are your cloths?” Nanna asked, as Rick came in with a towel.
“No daddy get me,” she said laughing as he made snorting noises. Rick caught
her, and wrapped her in the towel he had, then took her to be dried off and
dressed.
“Did I do things such as that?” Alex asked. To that question, Nanna smiled.
“You escaped from a bath more times than I can count. One time you got all the
way outside because your uncle left his side door open, before we caught you,”
Nanna said. Alex grinned guessing his uncle John had gotten a lot of grief for
that one. As he was finishing his breakfast, the rest of the family came in
with three little girls dressed pretty and proper.
“Up,” Louisa said tugging on her brothers pants leg. After scooting out his
chair Alex let her up, then held her on his lap letting her have the food he
had left behind. Their dresses were navy blue with little bows on them and lace
around the waist, and the shirts worn under it were white. They also wore warm
stockings and little black leather shoes, though everyone knew those would be
off before Rick could get them in the car. Elizabeth and Rebecca sat in their
highchairs, and for a few minutes they ate like they were supposed to, then
Elizabeth got that look in her eye, something that didn’t go unnoticed by dad.
“Elizabeth no,” Rick said.
“But Unc John did it,” she said pouting. One evening, when he had been watching
them and all three of them had been fussy, Jonathan had thrown a pea at
Elizabeth and let them throw peas back at him. Now the girls liked to start
food fights at any given moment during a meal. Alex had to stifle his laughter,
remembering countless things Uncle John had taught him that his parents didn’t
like.
“Well Unca John shouldn’t have shown you that,” Rick said.
“Down,” Louisa said. Alex put her down, and she ran around the table to where
daddy sat and Rick held her giving her a kiss.
“Don’t forget that we have that appointment today with the specialist Dr.
Brigman found for us,” Evie said.
“I won’t,” he said as he gave Louisa a bite of eggs. Once family meal was over,
Alex got his things, and he and Evie said their goodbyes leaving for school and
work.
~*~
At a quarter till one, Evie met Rick and Louisa in the office district of
London and together they went in to a large building, going up several flights
of stairs until they came to a small office. While Evie signed them in, Rick
sat down and untied the hood on Louisa’s knit sweater pulling it back as she
looked around.
“Becca Bef?” she asked. Becca was for Rebecca and Bef was Elizabeth.
“Their at home with Nanna and Alex,” Rick answered as he got her sweater off.
When Evie walked over to where they were sitting, Louisa wanted her, and in a
moment Evie was reading to her. It was frightening how far ahead of her Rebecca
and Elizabeth were, and since Dr. Brigman couldn’t offer answers or solutions,
he had sent them to an office that specialized in speech and cognitive development.
London was well known for its medical advances, and Evie had pushed their
doctor to help them find someone with answers and someone who could help.
“Louisa O’Connell?” a young woman called out. They followed her back to an
office and the girl left. Louisa hid her face against Evie’s neck, as they
settled, not liking being on her own. Then the door opened and a young man
walked in, someone who looked younge than them.
“I’m Thomas Zachery,” he said as he shook Evelyn and Rick’s hands.
“Now the information I received from your doctor says Louisa was one of three
babies born at the same time, and that she was the smallest?” He asked. Evelyn
nodded not sure where he was going with this.
“The reason I ask is that in the few cases of what we call multiple births that
we see, it is generally the smallest child who learns the slowest. Your Doctor
also told me that she is beginning to speak. What I want to do here today is to
watch her, and try to develop a program for you to work on at home to help her learn
speech, and other skills better,” he said. He led them out of his office to a
huge room full of every kind of toy imaginable, and even with that, Louisa
didn’t want anything to do with the toys, not until Rick sat down and began to
play, then slowly she warmed up and interacted with her daddy, then on her own
which was her usual behavior. Dr. Zachery watched her at play for several hours
making notes of things, observing her communications with mum and dad, and when
they went back to his office he had what he wanted.
“The first thing that I will ask is for you not to respond to her pointing for
things. She knows the names, and she must learn to ask for what she wants. Keep
reading to her and may I recommend also that you get pictures of things and
help her identify the names that way,” he said. Once they were finished Louisa
was sound asleep. Rick and Evie went their separate ways, Evie to the Museum
and Rick and Louisa home.
~*~
It was toward dinner when Evie arrived home, and to a noisy house which was not
uncommon with three two year old daughters. Once she had put her purse and coat
away, Evie walked in the Parlor where all three of the girls where on their
fathers back laughing as he pretened to be their horse. Evie watched off to one
side of the bookshelf not wanting to disturb them just yet.
“Fasser Daddy,” Rebecca yelled.
“Nooo,” Louisa said sliding off the back of her daddy, since she was on the
end. She fell back and hit her head against the floor, and for the time being
the fun was over. Evie walked in and picked her up swaying her as she screamed
“It’s all right baby,” Evie said as she rubbed the back of her head. Rick came
to them after Helping Elizabeth and Rebecca down safely.
“I’m sorry princess,” Rick said kissing the area on the back of her head which
Evie was rubbing.
“Give Issa kiss,” Rebecca said. Rick picked them both up and the gave her
kisses then were ready to play, but with Evie home it was time for three little
girls to be getting to bed.
“It’s time to go to bed,” Rick said then spun them around getting laughter
before he and Evie took them upstairs to start the long process of getting them
to sleep.
~*~
Much later that night when Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Louisa were finally asleep,
Evelyn and Rick left Nanna in charge and went on a needed drive alone. Rick
held Evies hand as he drove their car further out into the country both
savoring the quiet.
“I’ve been thinking that it might do well for me to take Louisa to the museum
with me. Rebecca, and Elizabeth hardly give her a chance to talk, and I think
she would do better if she was the only one around.” Rick frowned at her
suggestion, knowing that when one of their girls was taken away and put on
their own, then it usually resulted in an unhappy baby.
“Are you sure, she’s the shyest of the three, and I remember the time we let
Alex take her to the park and she had a fit on the bus,” Rick said. Evelyn had
not forgotten that time, but she was also determined to get her baby to
communicate better, and Rick knew she would give it her all, as she always did.
When he stopped the car, she found that they were at a meadow, their favorite
meadow and smiled as she knew what he had in mind.
“We havn’t been here for a long time,” Evie said as he reached out and began to
untuck the shirt she was wearing from her slacks.
“It’s been too long,” Rick said as he lifted her shirt off of her. They made
love quite a few times before they were ready to go home, and even then they
were reluctant to leave a world where only they existed, but their daughters
needed them, and all to soon Rick was driving back to the house where their
life as parents awaited.
Chapter 2: Rugby
Weekends had come to include trips to Bishops Park, where Alex and his team
played their Rugby matches. Now at almost 12, Alex was an official member of
the team, and a good player. Today when the rest of the family arrived at the
park, he was already at practice. Evie and Rick set up a large blanket on a
little hillside overlooking the game area, while Nanna watched the girls who
were all dressed in warm dresses with warm stockings underneath.
“Sing,” Elizabeth said looking over at the playground.
“Not right now, we need to help cheer for Alex,” Nanna said.
“No,” she said, and began to run for the swings. Rebecca followed, but Louisa
stayed with Nanna, who was trying to think of what to do, when Rick ran past
her saving her the trouble of having to run after two energetic toddlers.
“Elizabeth, Rebecca stop,” he shouted. When she heard her daddy’s voice,
Rebecca did as she was told, but Elizabeth ran on. Rick remembered when Alex
did such things, and shook his head, amazed out how like him she was.
“I topped daddy,” Rebecca said as he picked her up and continued after his
other daughter.
“Yes you did. Thank you for listening to me,” Rick said as he gained on his
little girl. When he caught up to her, she started to scream putting up a fight.
“LET GO ME,” she yelled, struggling as he knelt down beside her. He let go of
Rebecca and held her immobile glad when Evie came and got Rebecca.
“LET GO LET GO LET GO,” she screamed.
“Shhhh,” Rick said. She finally calmed down, and let daddy carry her back to
the blanket where mummy had set out food for them to eat, which helped her calm
down even more. By then the game had started, and Alex already had the ball
running as fast as he could for the goal.
“GO ALEX,” Rick yelled noticing two of the bigger players on the opposing team
approaching him. Alex seemed to notice, and ducked at the last moment causing
the two players to wham into one another. Just before he got the ball to the
goal, he was tackled by one of the other teams players.
“Is he hurt?” Evie asked worried. Rick grinned as his son got up unharmed, and
Evie sighed in relief. She hated this game, because of the risk Alex took with
getting tackled by guys much bigger than him.
“I go pay dat,” Rebecca said.
“No ma’am,” Evelyn said not about to let her daughter do that. This time the
other team had the ball, and Alex and Darby with Matt and Derrick, trailed
after the player with the ball.
“GET BALL ALEX,” Elizabeth yelled, which caused Nanna, Rick and Evie to laugh.
She loved watching her big brother play Rugby and cheered on with her parents
and Nanna.
“I say have I missed to much of the game?” Jonathan asked as he approached with
his latest girlfriend. Lately Jonathan had started to date woman more than use
them, which Evie was relieved for.
“Not too much,” Rick said, then yelled at the other teams coach who was
protesting a move Darby had made.
“Mad,” Louisa said of her father as Nanna held her.
“No honey. He is just trying to get the other teams coach to listen to reason
is all,” she said as an explanation. Grace sat with Evie, and the two of them
talked about the worry they had when watching the game with Alex at risk.
“Rick won’t ever agree about that,” Evie said as she closed her eyes when Alex
got tackled again. Rebecca and Elizabeth were now settled on Rick and
Jonathan’s shoulders clapping for Alex as he got up, none of them knowing how
hurt he was from that particular tackle. Alex walked normal to the sidelines
and Darby approached him.
“You okay?” he asked.
“Yeah just got the wind knocked out of me is all,” Alex lied. His chest hurt as
if someone were stabbing knives in him, and he didn’t want his mum to freak
out, so he held strong, even as Darby put him back in the game. Alex was tossed
the ball and groaned as it hit his chest, but he ran anyway, and again he was
tackled, feeling something snap. He cried out as the guys got off of him and
didn’t get up as he normally did.
“Stay here baby,” Rick said as he noticed that Alex wasn’t getting up. Evie
looked at her husband, and then at the field and stood as he started to sprint
down there.
“I knew he would get hurt,” she said starting to go down herself, only to be
stopped by Jonathan.
“Let Rick get him. Alex is going to be upset as it is if he is hurt, and well.”
Evie knew what Jonathan was getting at, and restrained herself watching as Rick
lifted Alex off the ground, and brought him back up the hill.
“Jonathan will you and Grace take Nanna and the girls home for me?” he asked.
“Dad I’m fine,” Alex squeaked. Rick ignored that, and when he was sure Jonathan
and Grace could handle things, he and Evie went to their car and after getting
Alex settled in the back, they drove to the hospital.
~*~
It was several hours later when Rick and Evie arrived, with Alex asleep in the
back of the car after taking pain killers for his broken ribs. Evie had not
said a word to her husband since Dr. Brigman told them he had broken his ribs,
angry that Rick had been so pig headed about not listening to her when she had
protested Alex playing the game. As they entered the house, all was quiet. They
found the adults in the Parlor and Jonathan informed them the girls were asleep
in their room.
“Thank you for staying with them,” Evie said as she watched Rick carry Alex
upstairs.
“What happened to him?” Jonathan asked. At his question his sister sighed and
sat down on the couch.
“Two broken Ribs,” she said, none to pleased. Jonathan decided he and Grace
needed to go, knowing that Rick was going to hear to no end how Evie had been
right, and he for one didn’t want to be around when they argued. Once they had
gone, Evelyn went upstairs, and as she got closer to Alex’s room she heard them
talking and stopped.
“I know mum is going to yell at you, so just tell her to back off because I’m
the one who made the decision to play, and I knew I could get hurt,” Alex said
sleepily. Rick kissed his forehead.
“Don’t worry about your mum and me. You just get some rest,” Rick replied.
Until she heard Alex say that, Evie had been fully intent on letting Rick know just
how she felt about Alex playing Rugby. Now that she knew how Alex felt when
they got into arguments, she left, quietly going into their room where three
little Princesses slept. Watching them sleep, and thinking about all the times
she and Rick had argued, and yelled at one another, which were few and far
between Evelyn realized they needed to find another way to work through their
differences. Her husbands hand on her shoulder got her attention and Evie
turned welcoming his arms around her.
“I heard what he said,” she whispered. Rick took her hand and led her out of
their room and down the hall to the girls room.
“Evie maybe you were right. I was so proud of him for getting into a sport, I
guess its a guy thing, but I didn’t even think about him getting so hurt,” Rick
said. Evelyn shook her head.
“No Rick. Rugby has given Alex confidence in himself, and strength, and when he
gets better he should play more. I can’t, we can’t take something away from him
that he so loves,” she pointed out. Rick put his hands on her cheeks then
leaned in and gave her a gentle kiss. Evelyn reached behind him and pulled his
head closer needing to feel the warmth of his mouth against hers, and Rick
didn’t hesitate to give her what she wanted.
~*~
Having two broken ribs had Alex out of commission from school and from Rugby,
and the two days he had spent in bed he was on pain killers though the Doctor
had lowered the dossage, not wanting him dependent on that, and now Alex was in
more pain and not in a very good mood. Evelyn had brought him lunch and Alex
all but tossed it to the floor when she persisted on him eating.
“Alex thats enough,” she said finally. He closed his eyes, feeling frustrated
and angry that he couldn’t do things he loved.
“I’m sorry mum, I can’t stand being in bed like this, and it hurts,” he said.
Gently Evie settled beside him.
“Did you know your Uncle had broken ribs once? He was about your age, and he
had played a prank on some pretty rotten boys. They didn’t like the joke that
he had played on them, so one day after school they cornered him and took turns
beating him up. Your grandfather Howard saw to it that the boys were punished,
but Jonathan was in his room in bed for weeks upset. I used to come in and try
to tell him jokes, of coarse he knew all of them, because he was the one who
taught them to me,” Evie said. That made Alex laugh, which made him groan.
“All right, you need to get some rest,” she said kissing him as she stood up.
“Can Elizabeth come in and sit with me?” he asked. Evie looked surprised, but
was pleased. Alex had always had an affection for her, and after a few minutes
Evelyn brought her in.
“Now be gentle with your brother,” she said as she set her on the bed next to
him. Once she was gone Elizabeth turned to face him.
“Mummy say got big owie,” Elizabeth said. Alex grinned at her.
“Yup I do, but I don’t want to think about that. So what have you been doing
all day?” he asked. Elizabeth seemed to think about his question for a few
moments then took a deep breath.
“I dot put in quiet chair cause I pulled Issa hair, and she cried. Nanna say
Dat very naughty.” Alex shook his head.
“Why did you pull her hair?” he asked.
“Cause she took baby, and Issa not asked me,” Elizabeth informed.
“What else did you do?” He asked.
“Daddy goed barn, and payed in hay. Daddy shoved the icky out talls. Den dot
ride Barnie if daddy,” she said yawning and resting her head against her
brothers side.
“What else did you do?” he asked shutting his eyes.
“Mummy read book bout Gypt.” she whispered, then both of them fell asleep.
~*~
The next few weeks Alex had to stay home relaxing, then finally about the
fourth week he was able to go back to school, and things from there returned
back to normal, or as normal as the got for him.
Chapter 3: Chicky Pops
Cold weather had officially set in, with snow covering the ground in September.
Today Nanna had taken the girls with her to go see some friends of hers who had
children their age. Louisa stayed with Nanna while she and the other nanny
knitted, rocking her baby while Elizabeth and Rebecca played with Justin and
Jason who were twins.
“Nanna Jason say babies is sissy tuff,” Elizabeth said running over. Lately she
had started into a tattling faze of life. Nanna smiled.
“Well we know playing babies is all right, so don’t let him upset you darling,”
she said. Elizabeth nodded, and ran back to play with her sister and the boys.
“Unt daddy,” Louisa said, looking up at her Nanna. Lately Louisa had been in a
daddy mood, and where ever Rick went she had to be.
“Will you go play with your sisters for a little longer?” Louisa made a sat
face, and Nanna put down her knitting, and held her close.
“We will go in a little while all right?” Nanna asked as she kissed her soft
cheek. Louisa took in a breath and let it out then nodded her head and went
back to playing with her baby, while her sisters played hide and seek with
Jason and Justin.

Having the house to himself, Rick was spending his day cleaning. They had three
maids who came to clean three times a week, but on pieces of furniture like the
old redwood bookshelves, and even the older books, Rick liked to clean those
himself. Today he was putting conditioner on the shelves, to make sure they
didn’t crack, and as he did that he had the Radio tuned to a jazz band, and was
whistling with the tune, not noticing his wife had come home early. Evelyn
smiled as she watched him work, and quietly snuck up on him resting her cheek
against his back.
“Hey, I thought you were going to be in the meeting with the stuffy guys all
day,” Rick said as he turned around.
“I did as well, but we accomplished what we had set out to do, and I decided
since Nanna has the girls over at Victoria and Drakes home, we could enjoy
ourselves,” she said as she took the cloth diaper he was using to clean the
shelves with out of his hand. Rick’s eyebrows raised, and he almost purred as
Evelyn began to unbutton his pants. He just had his pants on since it was just
him, wearing nothing else, which Evelyn found irresistible. As soon as she started
to rub against him, Rick moaned feeling his penis harden. Evelyn smiled and
took both of his hands leading him over to the couch.
“What about the kids?” he asked as she made him sit down.
“Nanna intended to keep them out past lunch. Shhh,” she said as she had him sit
down. She settled beside him, then lowered her mouth to his very sensitive
flesh and began to suckling there. Rick arched his hips, groaned as she did
that, loving the feel of her tongue wrapped around him, and her teeth scraping
against him as she began to move her mouth along the length of him. When she
pulled away, he reached for her but she smiled and moved away from him before
he could reach her, removing her stockings and her underpants. Rick grinned
then helped her onto his lap both moaning as they joined.
~*~
It was a few hours later when Nanna arrived with three very tired little girls.
Louisa was crying for daddy, and Elizabeth and Rebecca were being grumpy. They
found both parents in the study, Evie reading a book, and Rick now dressed,
working at his desk on a proposal.
“Here is your daddy,” Nanna said as she took the sleepy little girl to his
desk. After putting down his pen, Rick stood up, then took his princess who
snuggled against him sucking on her middle finger which she bent in. Evie led
the way up the stairs with Elizabeth against one hip and Rebecca against the
other. In the girls room, Nappys were changed, then everyone piled in their
bed. As Evie started to read Peter Rabbit, Louisa requested daddy to rock her,
which he did while her sisters listened to the story. As they were falling
asleep Alex stuck his head in the door and waited as his parents put them in
their bed, then once they walked out he showed them the report he had written
on Ramses Treasure, and the A he had gotten on it.
“I’m so proud of you for this,” Evie said as she gave him a hug. Alex grinned,
always happy when his parents were proud of him. Once downstairs, all of them
headed into the kitchen. Evelyn and Rick got out makings for sandwiches, since Nanna
had gone to the market, and made lunch for them and for Alex. While they ate he
told them about practice with Darby and a few of the other guys, and about a
fight Marcus had gotten in.
“Well I didn’t do anything but watch but it was bad. I don’t think Marcus will
be picking on anyone like that ever again,” Alex said. Both parents nodded
their head in unison glad when Alex began to talk of other things besides
fights at school.
“Dad do you think Britain will get involved with what his happening with Hitler?”
Alex asked. As part of his History class, his assignments, nightly, were to
read the post, and lately Hitler had been in that a great deal.
“I’m not sure son,” Rick said not comfortable with that topic. He wasn’t as
young as he used to be, approaching forty, and the thought of a war, as big as
everyone was predicting and the fact that he had fought in the first World War
made him weary of the subject. Once Alex was excused from lunch Evelyn brought
that up again.
“Evie if I didn’t have you or the kids I would go fight in a heart beat, but
the fact of the matter is I do have you, and I don’t want to leave you behind,”
he said to answer her question on whether or not he would fight. Once they had
finished lunch they decided to go for a walk, leaving Alex to listen for his
sisters.
~*~
It was when Rick was getting the girls ready for their bath, later that night,
that he found Louisa with red bumps on her stomach, and upon checking Elizabeth
and Rebecca he found bumps on them as well.
“Evie,” he called out as he got them in the water. They laughed and played but
Louisa got fussy fairly fast.
“What is it, I was about to take Alex to Darbys for the night,” she said as she
walked in.
“Um I think we have a case of the Chicken pox,” Rick said as he lifted Louisa
who was now crying out of the water. Evelyn looked, and confirmed what he had
said.
“I’ll stop by the Apothecary and get some baking powder and some aspirin,” she
said, knowing that they would all get fevers most likely during the night.
“Will you send Nanna up too?” Rick asked as he wrapped Lousia in a towel. She
settled down as he cradled her in his arms yawning.
“Evelyn says they have the chicken pox,” Nanna said as she came in, and shook
her head taking over bathing the other two so that Rick could tend to Louisa
who started crying for Evelyn.
“Momma,” she said squirming to be put down. Evelyn had heard her and walked in.
“I’ll take Alex,” Rick said as he handed their baby to her, kissing them both
before he left.
“There there now, lets get you ready for night night time,” Evie said as she
went to the dresser and got out a pretty pink nightgown. She got Louisa into
her nighty then settled down in the rocking chair humming a tune to her, which
got her to sleep.
~*~
It was early that morning when all three of them awoke with pretty high fevers
and more bumps. Nanna got up with Rick and Evelyn to help, and by the light of
day all three of the girls were asleep with daddy in their parents bed. Evelyn
had called in to the museum ready to stay home for as long as she needed to,
and Nanna was in the kitchen getting breakfast prepared, regular breakfast for
the adults and broth for the girls as well as glasses of frozen juice which she
had put in the Ice box. She explained to Evie that it would help keep their
fever down, and their fluid levels up. It was movement against his chest, which
woke Rick, and he found Elizabeth was the one, rubbing her face against his
shirt.
“Hey angel, don’t do that,” Rick said as he pulled her closer.
“Not good,” she said and started to cry when he wouldn’t let her scratch her
face. Not wanting to wake the other two, Rick got up and carried her in the
bathroom, getting the paste Evie had made with the baking powder and applied
that to her face blowing on it which helped the itching go away. Once she was
comfortable Rickc carried her into the bedroom and settled in the Rocky chair
as she called it and began to rock.
“Daddy get chicky pops?” she asked. Rick smiled and kissed the top of her head.
“Little girls and little boys get them, but once their gone, you won’t ever
have them anymore,” Rick said, remembering how sick both he and Alex had gotten
with them, and was hopeful that the doctor was right about him not getting them
anymore.
“Hungy,” she said and then saw momma and Nanna come with breakfast. Rick saw
the bowls with some sort of orange mush in it and Evie explained about the
juice. Elizabeth ate some, and loved it.
“MMmm dood daddy,” she said as he gave her a spoon full. While he fed her
Evelyn and Nanna roused Rebecca and Louisa and got them to eat, ready for a few
days of having fussy toddlers.

The next few days were in a word hell. The girls all had high fevers and bad
cases of the pox, and were in lukewarm baking powder baths for the most part.
It was finally the fourth day, when their fevers broke all within different
times, and they were finally able to go to sleep. By then Uncle John had come
to the rescue and he and Nanna kept the girls while Mum and dad went to a hotel
to spend the night. With the chicken pox now behind them, Rick and Evie were
ready for the next battle, hoping it would be a minor one instead of a major
upset, and life resumed at full speed ahead.
THE END
NOTE: Well for now this is the end. So tell me do you want tales of when they
were babies or should I go on with the next step of their life which is WWII
and how it effects them. OR I can do both at the same time, just tell me what
you guys like.
