He was raised in Upstate New York and attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany.
Jimmy used to watch SNL when he was younger with along with his sister and often quoted lines and practiced impressions of the players on Saturday Night Live. I even heard that [once] he missed [a] dance[s] to watch SNL on [a] Saturday night[s].
He started his comedy career at age 17 when he won a "Best Impressionist" contest at a local club.
He performed stand-up, impressions, and characters. He also toured at various colleges.
He joined SNL in the 1998-1999 season as a featured player. He became a member of the cast in the 1999-2000 season, and became a co-anchor in Weekend Update with head writer Tina Fey in the 2000-2001 season.
On the show, he's performed impressions of Adam Sandler, Carson Daly, Robin Williams, and has sung parodies of U2, Creed, and Blink 182. He also has many re-accuring characters on SNL. Some of them include Jarret of Jarret's Room, "they guy" at Jeffery's, and Sully in Boston Teens.
In 1999, he and his sister, Gloria, wrote a book called, "I Hate This Place: The Pessimist's Guide to Life".
He co-hosted MTV's MMA's on 06.07.01 with Kirstin Dunst.
