| 'Deadly' Award |
| Skerries Beaver Scouts Win Award Splosh beaver colony of Skerries Sea Scouts noticed that the Scouting Association of Ireland (SAI) magazine you were looking for the most unusual fun event undertaken by a beaver colony. They reckoned they had a really "deadly" event. They asked Betty Balcome from the local Historical Society to bring them on a tour. Betty came up with a great idea, she brought them on a walking tour of the old Holmpatrick Grave Yard in Skerries. It was a fascinating trip. There were some graves dating back to the 1700's. They belonged to a shipwreck of the 'Taylour'. The ship went down off Lambay Island. The children were enthralled listening to Betty talking of the shipwreck. She also told a story of a baby that survived and was taken by the captain of the ship to England but later died. The Beavers had loads of questions to ask and all really enjoyed the evening. We reckon it was our most unusual event. It was a very fun way of learning some local history. Even better was the fact that they won an award from the SAI for the most unusual outdoor event. Pictured are some of the beavers with their award. |
