| Fort Belle Fontaine | ||||||||||||||
| Walked 3 mile trail with Trila. Much history. Lewis and Clark stayed at the original Fort on September 22, 1806 on the return trip. It was located in the current Missouri River at that time but moved to the top of the cliff in 1811-2. The WPA built the Grand Staircase in the early 30's plus many of structures along the river. The Belle Fontaine spring can be seen when the Missouri is low enough. Coldwater Creek enters the Missouri River along the trail. Very neat park. | ||||||||||||||
