| Layne Staley - 1967-2002- Saturday, April 20, 2002 Layne Staley has passed away. He was found dead in his home in Seattle on April 19th 2002, he was 34 years old.Layne was born in Kirkland, Washington on August 22, 1967. The seeds of becoming a musician were planted early Layne, who became interested in music around the age of 11. Staley started out as a drummer, but eventually made his way from the drum kit to center stage as a front man for various glam bands around the Seattle area. All that would change when he happened to meet a guitarist named Jerry Cantrell at a party. The two, along with drummer Sean Kinney and original bassist Mike Starr would go on to form Alice In Chains in 1987, little did they know what impact their music would have on the world.
