Hey, Mr. Bassman!

I may be biased, but I think Scooter was a darn good entertainer. While most of the time in TMS he was regulated to the chorus, there were a few spots where he got to sing on his own or have the spotlight in a skit.

You may notice that the format of this page looks a little different now. With all five seasons of The Muppet Show slowly being released onto DVD, I thought it would be easier to sort all of Scooter's appearances and suchlike by season. For now all of Scooter's season 1 appearances will be found on that page while everything from season 2 on will remain on this page. TV special appearances will also be moved to their own page.

The Muppet Show - Season One - Everything Scooter from the Muppet Show's first season.

The Muppets' TV Specials - Scooter's appearances and activities in the Muppets' television specials.

Songs from the Muppet Show and Muppet Albums

The Rhyming Song
This sketch was performed in Season 3 by Fozzie, Scooter, Annie Sue and Link Hogthrob when the show was being performed at a train station (the theatre was being fumigated). With Kermit MIA these four took it upon themselves to go out and do an act; however, nothing in "The Rhyming Song" rhymed and it quickly fell apart.
Lyrics: The Rhyming Song

Six-String Orchestra
Scooter performed this little number in one of TMS' best-known episodes, w/guest star Mark Hammill. This number also features the Electric Mayhem, this time playing back-up as Scooter dreams of becoming famous with his guitar, his "six-string orchestra." Personally this is my favorite musical number of Scooter's. It also looks like it's the first one that he's not had to use his uncle's influence to get to do, since Kermit tells the audience that he's been working hard on it (and of course, after hearing Angus McGonnagall gargling Gershwin, anything else should sound good!).
Lyrics: Six-String Orchestra

There's A New Sound
The episode in which Scooter performed this song guest starred Cheryl Ladd, but it can also be heard on the Muppet Show 2 album as well as the Muppet Show: Muppets, Mayhem and More CD. In it, Scooter sings about a brand-new sound - the sound of worms.
Lyrics: There's A New Sound

Sea Chanty
Performed in the Petula Clark episode, also found on the Muppet Show 2 album, Scooter sings this song with Link Hogthrob, Gonzo, Fozzie and Kermit's nephew Robin. The five of them are in a rowboat at sea, and manage to get through the song before a wave sweeps them all overboard.
Lyrics: Sea Chanty

We Got Us
There are actually two versions of this, one that was on the show and one that was on the Muppet Show 2 album. The show version was performed at the end of the Dom DeLuise episode, starting out as a duet between Dom and Piggy and ending up with everyone onstage. The album version starts out as a duet between Piggy and Kermit, with Scooter, Gonzo, Fozzie, Floyd and eventually everyone joining in.
Lyrics: We Got Us

Scooter's Guest Star Song
Scooter sings this list of nominees in the "Best Guest Star" category of the first annual Fred Awards to the tune of "Modern Major General." On an interesting note, Senor Wences is mentioned in Scooter's song because he had been booked as a fourth season guest, but he didn't actually appear on the show until a year later. On another interesting note Scooter calls Danny Kaye "my hero" in the song, possibly alluding to the fact that Kaye was Richard Hunt's hero as well.
Lyrics: Scooter's Guest Star Song

At the Hop
From the Teresa Brewer episode, Scooter attempts to sing this song with a bunch of frogs, but they get too excited about the "hop" part and start hopping so much that Scooter can't finish.
Lyrics: At the Hop

Do-Re-Mi
Scooter is part of the "Muppet Glee Club" that sings this song during the Marissa Benson episode. Somehow this group of intrepid singers manages to screw up the song, and like the Rhyming Song before it it falls to pieces.
Lyrics: Do-Re-Mi

Another Opening, Another Show
Scooter is a member of the opening number for the episode guest starring Mac Davis, performing what tries to be a vaudeville number. Unfortunately the group keeps getting stuck behind and tangled up in curtains and backdrops that keep falling down on them thanks to Beauregard and Beaker, who have slipped up backstage.
Lyrics: Another Opening, Another Show

Skits/Behind the Scenes

Zero Mostel - Pay Day and Lady Wrestling
The payroll's short this year, and Scooter comes to Kermit's rescue by phoning his uncle. J.P. agrees to put up the $27.14 if Kermit puts on some old-fashioned entertainment: lady wrestling. Later Scooter introduces the bout between Granny the Gouger and the mysterious Ms. Mask (who looks an awful lot like Kermit in drag).

Judy Collins - Scooter's Uncle Visits
Scooter's uncle J.P. Grosse, owner of the Muppet Theatre, visits his building with the intent of tearing it down to build a junkyard. Scooter tries to change his uncle's mind - but changes his tune when J.P. offers him a job running the junkyard.

Nancy Walker - Kermit's Out Sick
With Kermit at home sick with the Swine flu, running of the show is left to a very nervous Fozzie. Scooter has to continually prompt him through introducing the opening number. When its time to intro guest star Nancy Walker and Fozzie has to get into costume for the number, Scooter stalls the audience by trying to sell them magazine subscriptions for his school's fundraiser. If he sells enough, he'll win a skateboard. Later Scooter gives Fozzie an encouraging note from Nancy...that Scooter wrote himself.

Steve Martin - New Act Auditions
Sitting in the theatre seats with Kermit, Scooter reads off the names of the different acts that are auditioning, including Steve Martin's various acts. Scooter also assists Steve with his balloon animals by bringing out more balloons. The laugh track for this episode was provided by the Muppet performers themselves - and Richard Hunt's laugh is the most recognizeable.

Rudolph Nureyev - Empty Dressing Room
At the beginning of the episode Scooter enters the dressing room to give his "15 seconds to curtain" notice, only to find that the guest star is absent. Scooter immediately determines that Nureyev was too smart to show up. Also of note is the fact that this is the first time Scooter is seen out of his usual wardrobe of turtleneck shirt and green jacket. Instead he - like the rest of the cast - is dressed up in black tie.

Julie Andrews - The Cow
When a cow turns up backstage at the theatre, Scooter and Kermit try to figure out where it came from and what to do with it. At one point Scooter asks the cow point-blank "Who do you belong to?" Later on Scooter ill-advisedly gives the cow to the Swedish Chef. After the Swedish Chef maps out where he's going to butcher the bovine, Kermit instructs Scooter to "erase the cow." The cow finally winds up in the hands of the Flying Zucchini Brothers, once again thanks to Scooter.

Elton John - "Bennie And the Jets"
After Elton's first number Kermit catches Scooter trying to get a piano up to Elton's dressing room. Scooter claims to have an idea for a song that he wants Elton to hear. Kermit nixes the idea, until Scooter adds that his uncle liked the song. Later on in Elton's dressing room Scooter gets the chance (with some help from some backup singing pigs) to perform the song. Kermit remarks on how terrible it is until Elton makes a little revelation of his own: he wrote the song. Elton then goes on to perform said song, Bennie and the Jets with Scooter and the pigs providing backup vocals.

Elton John - Scooter's Intro
Scooter provides the intro for Elton John's next number (forging on despite being interrupted by the Swedish chef and a chicken running through), saying that he's promised not to get carried away despite the fact that he's one of Elton's biggest fans. That said, Scooter goes a bit overboard in his intro ("Here he is, the greatest talent in the history of the universe...").

Lou Rawls - Robin's Rescue
Along with Kermit, Scooter becomes the target of the wrath (and the utensils) of the Swedish Chef, who has been moved up in the show lineup due to Fozzie's inexperience on rollerskates. Scooter then assists Kermit in rescuing Robin, who has become the Chef's entre du jour!

Jaye P. Morgan - Another Scooter's Intro
Scooter gets the chance to introduce the guest star once again as Kermit, thanks to the confusion of having two J.P.'s in the theatre (guest star Jaye P. Morgan and Scooter's uncle J.P. Grosse), has to negotiate a singing contract with Scooter's uncle.

Cloris Leachman - Free at Last!
In this episode pigs take over the Muppet Show, locking Kermit, Fozzie and Gonzo in the boiler room and replacing the first two with porcine look-alikes. Just as Gonzo manages to dig their way to freedom Scooter shows up and releases the trio. Apparently someone was having a hog calling contest and all of the pigs (with the exception of Miss Piggy and the other TMS regular pigs) ran off.

Alice Cooper - Dressing Room Monsters
Scooter gives Alice the "15 seconds" warning, then bravely enters the darkened dressing room to give the guest star some bad news - the monsters in the dressing room don't belong to the Muppets. Alice tells him that it's okay; they're his monsters. Needless to say, Scooter runs from the room screaming.

Danny Kaye - Naps
Scooter comes into the dressing room to give Danny the notice about curtain time and finds the guest star napping in a chair. After remarking about what a profesional Danny is, Scooter wakes him up. A flustered Danny makes some last minute preparations for going onstage, and ends running into the armoire and knocking himself out. After he falls back into the chair, Scooter remarks, "I wonder if that's how he took his first nap."

Sylvester Stallone - Sylvester's Groupies
Scooter sells backstage passes to a group of Sylvester Stallone's fans. When Kermit declares that they be kicked out, Scooter and the girls pretend that they're really there to meet Kermit. Once they get a chance, Scooter sneaks the girls up to Sylvester's dressing room where he impresses them by beating up on a punching back.

Lynn Redgrave - "Robin Hood"
In the Lynn Redgrave episode the Muppets perform the age-old story of Robin Hood, with Kermit as Robin and Lynn as Maid Marian. Scooter is cast as the minstrel Alan A'Dale, where he does such things as report on the archery contest between Robin and the Sheriff of Nottingham's archer. He also amongst the group of Merry Men that Little John (Fozzie) must teach to "cavort."

Lola Falana - Gonzo's Replacement
After Gonzo allegedly leaves the Muppet Show for bigger and better (and weirder) things, Scooter brings in a performer to replace him - an odd-looking bird named Trevor the Gross. Kermit is reluctant, until the go-fer mentions that Trevor is his uncle's favorite performer.

Anne Murray - Skateboard Troubles
Scooter leaves his skateboard lying around backstage, much to the annoyance of everyone else. Especially Kermit, who trips on it and smashes a set.

Star Wars - Scooter Makes an "Exectutive" Decision
Scooter comes to the dressing room to give Angus McGonagle the 15 second warning. Much to his surprise Luke Skywalker, C-3PO and R2D2 come crashing through the wall. Scooter immediately decides that the cast of Star Wars will make much better guest stars than Angus.

Lynda Carter - Mail-Order Superheroes
Since "Wonder Woman" is guest starring on the show, Scooter decides to become a superhero. To do so he buys a mail-order course and follows the steps therein to become "Super Scooter." Pretty soon the other Muppets are following suit. At one point, Scooter (in costume) is standing at the bottom of a ladder coaching other superhero-wannabes who are up on top of the ladder on how to fly by reading to them from the book. Everyone on top of the ladder comes crashing down to the floor.

Diana Ross - "Reach Out And Touch Somebody's Hand" Nothing really relevant here, except that at one point in the song Diana calls out "Scooter!" and takes his hand in her free one (her other hand is holding Fozzie's).

Brooke Shields - Jabberwocky
In the episode with Brooke Shields, the entire cast of TMS puts on a production of "Alice in Wonderland." Scooter's big role for this show is the main character in a skit based on Lewis Carroll's famous poem "Jabberwocky," wherein he slays the Jabberwock. But even Scooter believes that this sketch is one of the strangest the Muppets have ever done.

At The Dance
A sketch that appeared on the album Muppet Hits. The featured couples are Floyd and Janice, two chickens, Fozzie and a female Whatnot, Kermit and Piggy, Scooter and another female Whatnot and Animal and a sheep.

Charles Aznavour - Scooter manages Gonzo
Gonzo asks Scooter to be his manager after the little blue geek is unable to get a spot on the show. First Scooter advises Gonzo to do a rock act (which involves Gonzo banging on a large rock with a mallet), then to do a female impersonation (wearing a dress and blonde wig). Scooter finally gives it up after Gonzo eats his contract.

Liza Minelli - Dressing Room Rehearsal
Scooter knocks on Liza's dressing room door to give her the 15 second warning. After she acknowledges it he stumbles in choking and coughing, before finally collapsing with a knife in his back. Liza gasps, then praises the go-fer on his acting skills. Scooter then jumps up and the two depart the dressing room, ready for the murder mystery.

Liza Minelli - "The Murderer is..."
Following the "It's Gonna Be a Great Day" number Kermit, Liza and the (surviving) cast members are backstage trying to figure out who murdered Fritz the director (Dr. Strangepork). Scooter pipes up that he knows whodunit, but just as he's about to reveal the identity of the murderer, he's stabbed in the back (typical).

Dom DeLuise - Piggy's Plan
Miss Piggy gets Scooter to pay off the audience, write up fake fan mail and send flowers from phoney admirerers in an attempt to impress Kermit. They then stage a conversation while Kermit is in earshot to make him think that Piggy has gotten a better offer (and Scooter forgets a line!). Kermit isn't fooled, and it doesn't take much for Scooter to spill the beans on the entire thing.

Tony Randall - Experimenting With Magic
In an attempt to change Piggy back after accidentally turning her to stone, guest star Tony Randall recites various magical spells from his book of spells to see if any will work. They do work - on Scooter, who has been watching and gets turned into a variety of things (at one point, his head turns into Gonzo's!). When none of the spells work on Piggy, Tony turns to Scooter and remarks "Nothing happened." This causes Scooter to faint, but not before giving Tony a "you can't be serious" Look.

Loretta Switt - "Auld Lang Syne"
After Kermit fires Piggy, a bunch of the cast and crew gets together to give the pig a decent send-off. After rehearsing "Auld Lang Syne" the singers have some fun at Piggy's expense. Scooter's contribution is "For She's a Jolly Good Porker."

Roger Moore - Spies, Go Home!
Scooter has the job of wrangling all of the cute and fuzzy animals being used in the closing number "Talk To the Animals." When Kermit warns Scooter that spies have infiltrated the animal cast Scooter tries to get rid of them by shouting "Spies, go home!" Unfortunately, no one goes home.

Gene Kelly - It's The End of the World As We Know It
Scooter uses his tarot cards to predict Beauregard's future, and tells the stagehand that the world is coming to an end. Poor Beau not only believes the idea but takes it and runs with it.

Movies

The Muppet Movie - Can You Picture That
Scooter helps the Electric Mayhem paint Fozzie and Kermit's Studabaker during this song. Although he doesn't get to sing it, in some of the shots of the Electric Mayhem performing Scooter can be observed playing the tambourine.
Lyrics: Can You Picture That?

The Great Muppet Caper - Happiness Hotel
Presumably one of the guests at the Happiness Hotel, Scooter is there to greet Fozzie, Gonzo and Kermit when they arrive, not to mention give the new tenants of the Happiness Hotel some sage advice about their new living quarters.
Lyrics: Happiness Hotel

The Great Muppet Caper - Couldn't We Ride
Piggy and Kermit take a romantic bike ride together, and later on are joined by the other guests of the Happiness Hotel also on bikes. Scooter rides beside Floyd and Janice, who are on a tandem bike.
Lyrics: Couldn't We Ride

The Muppets Take Manhattan - Together Again
Scooter is part of the chorus that sings along with Kermit in the opening number of the movie (presumably one of the closing numbers of the musical).
Lyrics: Together Again

The Muppets Take Manhattan - Saying Goodbye
Performed by the Muppets as they go their separate ways. Each member of the cast (or group, as in the case of the band) has their own verse, and Scooter sings his as he rides his bike out of Manhattan and New York.
Lyrics: Saying Goodbye

The Muppets Take Manhattan - I'm Gonna Always Love You
During a carriage ride with Kermit, Piggy fantasizes about what it would have been like if she and Kermit had known each other when they were babies. Also making an appearance in the fantasy as toddlers are Rowlf, Gonzo, Fozzie and, you guessed it, Scooter.
Lyrics: I'm Gonna Always Love You

Other

Muppet*Vision 3-D
Mostly anyone who's been to Walt Disney World in Florida (or more recently, to Disneyland's California Adventure in California) has visited a show called "Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3-D." It showcases the Muppets at their best, with the added component of 3-D and even 4-D effects. Scooter only has a minor part in the whole thing: he's in the preshow in the waiting area of the theatre. It's obvious his job is the same there as it is in TMS; unfortunately, every time he tries to explain the movie to the audience, there's some interruption. Scooter ends up playing straight man to everyone else who walks through, including an over-eager Bean Bunny and a tap-dancing Gonzo, until he finally hands the thing over to Sam for the safety spiel.

Muppets From Space - Scooter's Comeback
Scooter can be found in three spots in the sixth Muppet movie: in the opening "Brick House" sequence, selling Gonzo T-shirts at the beach before the landing of Gonzo's alien brethren and later in the backyard of the Muppet Boarding House during the party.

I'm sure that there's more information out there, and when I find it I'll be adding it to this page, so keep watching!
Coming Soon: Lyrics to Scooter's TMS songs, and more songs and skits that Scooter was in as soon as I find them.
