Skeeter: The Long-Lost Twin

Okay, I'll be honest and admit that Muppet Babies was the first Muppet production that made an indelible imprint on my mind since Sesame Street. But it wasn't until later that I discovered that the character I liked the best didn't exist in the Muppet world outside the animated realm.

Her name was Skeeter.

Skeeter had been created to have a female character in the nursery aside from Piggy. Rather than turning Janice (lead guitarist and only female vocal of the Electric Mayhem) into a Muppet baby, they added a totally new character to the cast: Scooter's twin sister Skeeter. Skeeter was the total opposite of Scooter. While he was a reserved, quiet computer nerd, Skeeter was active and vibrant, a complete tomboy.

Unfortunately, an adult Skeeter puppet was never created by Henson, leaving her animated and three years old forever. The only time I've seen her look the slightest bit older was on the cover for a series of books that starred "The Muppet Kids" (obviously the Muppet Babies at elementary school age) and taught lessons about various virtues. The official "explanation" for Skeeter's absence is that she never went into show business like her brother and friends; instead she became an explorer, and got lost in the Amazon somewhere.
