Fandom: Muppets
Character Name: Skeeter
Brief background of character: Skeeter is the twin sister of Scooter, the go-fer for the Muppet Show. As young children Scooter and Skeeter were primarily cared for by either their uncle J.P. Grosse or their Aunt Nan Carlise, or "Nanny." At the age of eighteen, while Scooter was starting work at the Muppet Theatre Skeeter headed for college with dreams of becoming an Olympic athelete. Her primary focus was gymnastics, although she took to playing soccer as a hobby. Those dreams ended when a routine gone bad tore the cartilage in her knee. Depressed Skeeter dropped out of school, returning to Nanny's home to recuperate and figure out what to do next. Over the next several years she held a variety of full and part-time jobs, including coach for a girl's community soccer team. This rekindled Skeeter's interest in athletics and she joined a non-professional soccer league. Skeeter stayed with that for a few years until her old knee injury forced her into early retirement. It was around this time that Nanny was diagnosed with end-stage cancer. She spent several months caring for her aunt. After Nanny's death Skeeter, feeling there was something missing from her life, began searching for her twin brother. The search took ten years, as Scooter had apparently dropped from the face of the planet. She finally found him just after Christmas, after the Muppets had won back the Muppet Theatre.
Character's position or job: Skeeter hasn't quite figured out where she fits in with her friends just yet. She knows she's not as glamorous as Miss Piggy or Annie Sue, she's not as laid-back as Janice, not as crazy as Gonzo or Animal, she isn't as musically inclined as Rowlf and she isn't a natural leader like Kermit. She just...is. Usually Skeeter will hang out at the theatre, either down in the canteen with Gladys or else backstage right. Occasionally Skeeter does get her chance to shine on stage, but those moments aren't often.
Strengths/Skills: Despite setbacks Skeeter is still an athletic person. She keeps up with her physical therapy exercises and brief gymnastics routines to keep herself limber and to keep her knee strong. Skeeter is a fair to moderate singer; she can carry a tune, but she's no Barbara Striesand (or Linda Rondstadt).
Are these skills typical of the fandom? If not, why?: Just about every Muppet has some talent (or quirk) that's become their trademark. In the Muppet Babies series Skeeter was a athletic tomboy, and I have just expanded on that.
Weaknesses/Bad habits: She doesn't have a lot of patience, and gets easily frustrated if things don't go how she wants or when she wants them to, like when she tries to do something and it aggravates her bad knee. She also gets frustrated if people push her to do something she doesn't want to do.
Distinctive features, if any: Skeeter looks like a feminine version of Scooter. Her hair is longer, and normally held in a single ponytail with a white scrunchie and her glasses have purple frames. Her wardrobe is a lightweight "track/cross-country" jacket in her university's colors, jeans and a tee-shirt (pink or light green).
Are these features unique in the fandom? If so, why?: This is the Muppets, where food sings and talks and little blue geeks like Gonzo exist. Of course they're not unique.
Connections to canon characters (if any): Skeeter is a canon character in and of herself since she was in the cartoon Muppet Babies; she was just never shown on-screen above the age of 3 years. She is Scooter's sister, and the niece of J.P. Grosse. For this universe I have also made her the niece of Nanny, the woman who took care of the Muppets in the Muppet Babies series. Skeeter is also dating Clifford, the purple-skinned Jamaican Muppet who hosted Muppets Tonight and is an on-again, off-again member of the Electric Mayhem.
How does your character get on with those around him/her?: Skeeter's relationships with the various members of the Muppet family are mixed, especially since she's still trying to find her niche. She is trying to rebuild her relationships with Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Rowlf, Janice, Bean, Bunsen and Beaker since she remembers them from her childhood. She and Janice have become pretty good friends and even room together at the boarding house, and Skeeter has also formed a good friendship with Annie Sue, Miss Piggy's understudy. The other members of the Electric Mayhem think that Skeeter is an all right person. She caught Clifford's eye when Scooter first introduced her to everyone, and the two of them are now an item.
