Richard Austin 29 Exeter Business Solutions Consultant 3 National 1300 Stockcars Westcountry grass track in '89 in a Marina Junior Banger Started racing on the dirt from '89 to early-mid nineties in Bangers and Hot Rods. Switched to Autospeed and Ringwood before a big crash saw my retirement in '95. Made a return to ovals in '99 with Incarace racing 1300 stockcars in the World Series with the odd domestic Banger or Robin meeting. Raced at 51 meetings last season as well as a couple more Banger meetings and Civil War for the South. Memories of Dickie Davis and World Of Sport The Entertainers....Deane Wood, Simon Reed, Keith Reynolds and the old Spedeworth Southerners have always been favourites of mine in the Bangers. George Polley has always been a favourite of mine and am now a happy customer of his, running my stockcar with a lot of help and advice from here. Pablo Montoya in the World of F1 as well as Gilles Villeneuve but to be honest I have the greatest respect for any driver who is willing to get out there and have a go as long as their attitude is to smile or go home! Wimbledon and Newton Abbot (R.I.P) I love watching the Bangers....always have! I'm happy racing the 1300 Stockcars but would prefer to go back to 2Litre Saloons properly if they went back to how they used to be....I'm currently looking at other formulas for 2002 but at present will be concentrating on the Stockcars this year. Drivers who moan or take it off the track! Difficult one this....as a spectator I'd have to say the budget non-contact formulas but I am heavily involved with the Stock Rods in the South West as well as Hot Rods....so I think I'll always prefer watching the contact formulas but from a drivers point of view I'll always race a National formula The ones with pay back! Ringwood 5000 Open in '95, Gus Carter's Jag gave me a head on and my Woosley snapped big time as well as my knee caps! The bloody East Anglians...... Deane Wood I'm doing it....just to go out there and entertain whether it's a Banger, Stockcar or even a Hot Rod....and to stay in the reds! I will be staying with Spedeworth this year, I will be doing a full season in Stockcars as well as my constant visits to Ringwood, PRI and Incarace. I still have my 1600 Open Banger to use up as well as a few Trummys I've promised myself to race in the Bangers when I eventually get the time. Many thanks to Motorside of Exeter, Polley Sport,Pip Williams of PW Fabrications, Alan Wichall of Wichall Plant, Ohara Salvage and Ralph Sanders Auto Dump and to a few list members whos financial help was invaluable and to everyone who has ever given me a clap, cheer or words of encouragement. |
