13. Technology Child Development, Learning, and Diversity
13.1 Demonstrate the use of various software and self-directed software programs to meet individual learning styles and needs.
Reflection: This is the area of art education that is the nearest to my heart. I love teaching children with special needs because art can be such a therapy for them. I use MANY resources when working with students with individual learning styles because each student is very different and needs different approaches.
WWW.VSarts.org is a good site to find software for people with special needs.
13.2 List/Use media and technology as available to support learning for children with special needs.
Reflection: At the National Art Educators Association conference this past March, I joined the Special Needs Intrest Group to hopefully get more information and resources. Since then, I have been in touch with many teachers at other schools about what works for them and their students. I have also gotten to know a teacher in Atlanta, Wendy Constantinitus, who teaches Adaptive Art. She has become an amazing resource for me!

13.3 List/Use media and technology as appropriate to support learning for children whose primary language is not English.
Reflection: Finally! The Spanish I took in high school came in handy! I do not know a lot, but I know enough to communicate what I want to the students and they know enough English to fill in the gaps. In almost every class, I also had one or more students who were knew both Spanish and English and could help me translate. However, I also had to do what I could to expand my vocabulary! I was able to use the following sites to come up with a few phrases.
www.freetranslation.com
www.freedict.com
13.4 List appropriate local, state, and national services or resources to meet diverse learning needs through technology.
Reflection: Like I said before, the NAEA's Special Needs Intrest Group is a group of Adaptive Art teachers from across the country. It has been an amazing resource because it has gotten me in contact with some very educated teachers!
