
WORKSHOP ON LIBRARY WEBSITE DESIGN ON 22nd & 23rd February,2008
Its a pleasure to announce the third workshop on “Library Website Deisgn”in Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore, India.
The Workshop is intended to discuss the ICT in developing library website. It is to be discussed various web tools and to provide knowledge for designing library website. Through this workshop, the participants come to know:
Basics of HTML Code
Designing website for library
Web Design tools
Configuration and Installation of website in Intranet : and
Maintenance and evaluation of website
The workshop mainly concentrates more on hands on experience than theoretical knowledge.

About SKCET Library
The Library is an integral part of intellectual power of our college. Its mission is to provide collections and services that support the educational goals of the college. At present the library houses a collection of 33,490 Books, Printed Volumes, subscribes more than 743 periodicals and more than 4973 CD-ROM/VCD/DVD resources. Utmost care is taken in developing resources for each department.
The new Central Library building [55,000 Sq. ft.] completed on 2004 is built on international standards. The uniqueness of our library lies on expansive study space blended with state-of-art facilities. The Digital Library service unit provides access to computers with internet facility. It provides more computers in the Digital library. The Library has high density of shelving for printed collections. The media centre houses a library collection of audio-visual materials and some of its remarkable features are theatres, studio, language lab, video conferencing facilities etc.,.

Our Vision is to provide world-class knowledge resource that not only caters to the curricular requirement but also promotes intellectual enquiry and research. We propose to achieve this through superior quality service consistently. Collection for us is, future oriented and customer driven process, which is constantly updated to meet our customer requirements, and focuses on values like quality, utility, accessibility and stability.

The Library has high density of shelving for printed collections. The media centre houses a library collection of audio-visual materials and some of its remarkable features are theatres, studio, language lab, video conferencing facilities etc., Library is fully air-conditioned. Library is fully computerized with latest technology equipments.

743 periodicals including 426 foreign technical journals and magazines from professional societies such as ACM,IEEE, SPIE, ASME, ISES, ASEE, ASHRAE and magazines like PC magazine, Dr. Dobb's. Linux, Wired, New Scientist, etc.
Fully computerized library information system with Bar coding of books, periodicals and ID cards to enable laser scanning of issue, return and stock taking.
User friendly online enquiry system for catalogue search and personal account.
Separate section for Text and Reference books, Periodicals and journals and Digital Library.
The Library functions from 8:15 am to 9:00 pm on all working days and from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm on Sundays.
Dr. M. Tamizhchelvan B.Sc., M.L.I.S., M A, PGDCA, Ph.D. is the Librarian and he is supported by a team of qualified Library Assistants.
DIGITAL LIBRARY
The Digital Library facilitates access to Electronic Information and library services to ensure that the information needs of our students, faculty, and staff are met.
The collection comprises more than 4,700 CD-ROMs and 250 VCD/DVDs, as well as audiotapes, video cassettes, and floppy discs. Subjects range from Computer Science, Electronics and Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Mathematics, Science and humanities to coverage of public lectures, Convocation and other college events. Special attention is paid to the collections on higher education abroad, placement resources, resources for preparation to competitive examinations.
The quickest way to locate videos or CDs in the Library is to search the library Catalog [OPAC]. Do a keyword search by "Material type". Enter a portion of the title, or other keyword information and the Material Type (Videos, CD-ROMs/DVDs, Floppies, Audio) to find the required resource. You can also search by subject for a particular department. The Centre has many multimedia systems for viewing digital videos or other formats. The Centre provides equipment and expertise for producing digital videos for classroom and extracurricular projects. This includes CD and DVD creation. Our team of library assistants provides assistance to students, faculty, and staff by attending to their needs.

He is currently developing a spectacular digital library portal and serials control system for the college, Already guided Alagappa University M.Phil. He has Undertaken national level projects – Folkwisdom, MLAI, NIFT He developed Photo Library Software for Express Group, Resource person for Bishop Heber College, Allagappa University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Annamalai University. He is a member of American Library Association (ALA), Madras Library Association (MALA.), Madras University Library and Information Science Alumni Network (MULISANET), Tamilnadu Library Association (TLA) and Foundation for Information and Communication (FIC).
