LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Kings suspended rookie defenseman Joe Corvo for three games after he pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges earlier this week. battery charges earlier this week.
Corvo, 26, received a three-year suspended sentence Monday after pleading guilty in Boston to assaulting a woman in a restaurant last year when he was with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL. He also was ordered to complete counseling and perform community service.
Prosecutors said Corvo grabbed a 34-year-old woman's buttocks last November. Restaurant staff told him to leave, but Corvo returned, punched the woman and then kicked her when she fell to the ground, prosecutors said.
The woman was treated for bruises and swelling on her face.
New investigation in case against Hasek

PRAGUE, Czech Republic -- The attorney general ordered a new investigation into whether Detroit Red Wings goalie Dominik Hasek injured a player during an amateur in-line hockey game.
During the amateur game in May, while Hasek was out of the NHL for a season, he collided with a man who then was hospitalized for three days. Police suggested criminal charges be filed.
If convicted of causing bodily harm, Hasek could face up to eight years in prison.

DULUTH, Ga. -- All-Star Dany Heatley was charged Monday with vehicular homicide after the death of Atlanta Thrashers teammate Dan Snyder, who was fatally injured when Heatley's sports car ran off a road.
A spokesman for the district attorney's office, Erik Friedly, said the charge was based on a preliminary finding that Heatley was driving recklessly. It carries a prison sentence of three to 15 years.
Heatley already had been charged with serious injury by vehicle, but that charge was dropped after the vehicular homicide count was filed. He also still faces four misdemeanor counts, each of which are punishable by up to a year in prison. He is free on $50,000 bond.
Snyder died Sunday night at Grady Hospital, six days after sustaining severe brain injuries in the wreck. He was 25.

PITTSBURGH -- Florida Marlins catcher Ramon Castro was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on charges he raped a woman in his hotel room in August.
Castro, a 27-year-old married father of two, was arrested after the woman went to police with her story. He was charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, sexual assault and unlawful restraint.
The rape charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison, though under state sentencing guidelines it's unlikely Castro would receive such a sentence if he were convicted.

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Boston Red Sox team doctor William Morgan was arrested on drunken driving charges after police said his car was swerving on a highway and they found a nearly empty glass of wine in the front seat.
Morgan failed four field sobriety tests when arrested Sunday night, state police spokesman Lt. Paul Maloney said.
Morgan was released on personal recognizance Sunday night and was arraigned Monday on charges of driving under the influence and drinking alcohol from an open container in a car.
