Furious Turtles
Furious Turtles started in the early 80's in Brisbane and lasted until 1986. They are having a come back gig 28th April 2001. How knows if it will continue? Radio Station 4zzz supported the Furious Turtles so consquently they had many gigs. When they first started they played The Jam/ The Clash covers but as time went by they moved to a ska sound basically leaning towards The Beat. They covered a wide variety of ska classics and included the Batman Theme and Peter Gunn. Sometimes they would use the name " No Bover" when they played a total ska set. Press Release: Furious Turtles Reform.
Date 19/4/01. Brisbane.
It is over 12 years since the Furious Turtles performed publicly. This Bris-Band of the 80s recently reformed to play for 25th birthday celebrations for public broadcaster 4ZZZ. Playing to an invited crowd of ZZZ stalwarts, the performance went so well the band has decided to re-enter the local music scene. Furious Turtles have their roots in a wide variety of musical styles but they are best known for SKA music. Furious Turtles only ever released one recording, an EP, Endangered Species in 1984 but are best remembered for their live performances and make the claim of being the most danceable local band of the 80s. The regular line up of Martin Thompson (vocals/guitar), Tim Littler (lead guitar), Mick Hoelscher (drums), Ray Mohnihan (guitar),Bruce Forbes (saxaphone), Glenn Minto (trumpet) and Chris Coulter (trombone), has been joined by Tim Collett on Double Bass. Says Martin, " The Double Bass brings a new feel to the band, it drives the rhythm section, gives a more authentic SKA sound and best of all, it will look great on stage. We call it the Mothership"
Furious Turtles will be playing on Saturday, April 28th 2001 at The Waterloo Hotel. They will be supported by The Kingtides, Open For Inspection and the SKA-TREK Sound System. Doors open 8 pm.
