Knaw " Problems of Sexual Conduct" and Nob " Making the Maladjusted"

CD Launch

The Gabba Hotel

Brisbane

24th June 2000

featuring Knaw, Nob, Community Cervix, Throwdown,

Upside Down Flag, Vanilla Pod, Too Far Gone

Ben at White Paste/ Knaw should pat himself on the back- well I could say something else but I thought it mite offend some. This was one gig that the locals won't be forgettin for ages and ages basically because it was a great varied line up and the antics that went on during the Knaw set . I think it's gone into the history book as one of those gigs you should have been at. Around 300 punters attended (including bands and guests). Many people I haven't seen before at any gigs- when I asked a few others around- neither had they. So great we are getting a few new punters instead of the "incestuous" crew we always seem to get at gigs.

I am indebted to the person who put the freebie postcards on the door for 'The Filth and The Fury"- The Sex Pistols doco. I think arriving early was a definite plus- as there were only a few. ( I saw in Sunday nite- not bad, pretty good, not bad). There was a heap of merch on sale- White Paste Records, In League Wit Satan, Deplorable Records and Vanilla Pod stuff. I know many bought up big- some were orgasmic as they picked up a vinyl 7' they have been after for years and for $5. I won't ponder to say what they got up to when they got home.

Too Far Gone and Upside Down Flag, I must say sorry to- I arrived in time to see you but got lost with all the hellos, catching up with friends and doin an interview for These Boots!. Next time I will make a golden effort to watch ya.

Vanilla Pod Vanilla Pod from the UK aren't really well known here but holy cripes if you like The Get Up Kids you should look these guys up. Most of the tunes they played were from "Faster Disco" CD. Someone with there infinite wisdom pointed out to me "There must be some pre requisite in UK bands that someone has to have some part or entire teeth missin". Some guy called Casper from Cairns is goin with them on the entire tour- that's one dedicated fan. Post set: Elmyra entertained the Vanilla Pod Boys with her usual and crazy antics, I'm sure leaving a huge impression on what the Brisbane locals are like.

Cronulla's Throwdown I've heard are tipped to be the next "Toe to Toe" of Australian hardcore. I can definitely see why- these guys blast! They also have a new line up. The vocals are awesome (the entire band does vocals- lots of backing vocals- its wild!), the guitars and bass crank it out. There were a few moshers about- ringleaders being Otto, Gavin, Aaron, Otto, Vic, Matt and Troy Destroy. If your into hardcore it's a MUST to see these guys. I hear they have a new CD out later this year. ( I was told that over 700 went the all ages show at the Sunshine Coast the nite before).

Community Cervix are definitely up there with the locals. Everytime I see this bunch of wags they get better and better. I think that may be because of two things- there new additions (Sue and Kev) and they must have been practicing a lot lately. It's pretty amazing when the crew are yelllin out words to your songs and you really don't have your own CD out yet. I hope they do and soon! Crusty ska at it's best. Yeah I made up crusty ska- if anyone else can describe them better let me know. Poor Justin had to continue playing when he had a mountain of "maggots" onto top of him. Doug was born a showman- his antics are beaten by none around these parts. He certainly leads the show into a crazy set. They finished their set with Christian Death Metal band- one of personal favs. The dance floor was sardine city most of the time- with everyone and anyone who wanted to pikitup roodbouy!

Community Cervix

In between sets some shenanigans were goin on like Matt and Geordie having love fights (the owner at first thought it was serious then he just larfed his head off when he realized it was all a joke) and Martin did a king effort to wedgy Matt.

Nob suffered a drum kit that kept moving about which impacted giving highs and lows to their set. But when they played they went off.. shame there was piss poor punter participation.

KNAW certainly were the band that stood out from the crowd tonite. The crew literally went wild. My legend awards go to (this all happened during the KNAW set):

1. Monkey Man Awards: Doug Cervix/ Alistair/ Matt Nasty - climbing all over the stage ceiling and the rotunda, nearly hittin Knaw on the head with their dangling legs and feet whilst under the influence.

2. I'm Big Awards: Don Gunn and Big Vic for dacking and wedging Doug Cervix

3. Kangaroo Award: Aaron for his amazing leaping feats on top of punters in a pile on stage.

4. Community Service Award: Jackie for lookin after a young trippin female (My note: Let's hope its not a common occurrence)

5. Memory Loss Award :Charlie for not remembering a thing

6.Run Amok Award: Otto for goin off like a pissed loonie

7.Madonna Award: The girl who showed up in her gold push up tits metal top

8. Beer is Good Award: Ben Nose for being a legend and drinkin a lot of beer.

9. Cannes Awards : Chris Hunter/ Laila for taking videos (HINT: I'd love to see it)

10. Bondage Award: Someone (think it may have been Gavin- not sure though) getting Ben's mic chord wrapped around his feet leaving the stage with Ben following close behind.

11. All round Shitty Luck Award: Jono (The Shirkers) for not being able to make it due to a sudden illness that kept him at my house the entire Saturday and Sunday.

12. All Round Legend Award: Knaw for being KNAW!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome set! You put up with a lot of chaos but still managed to sound good.

What seemed like the entire crowd were dancing, singing, shakin and generally goin mad! Some interstate visitors I had with me were very impressed thinking this mite be a normal gig. But somehow I think the venue change to the Gabba may evoke a few more anarchy nites like this seemed to be.
