Well, being that you decided to click the link to here, you are interested in me. To start with, my name is Christy. I was born March 7th, 1985 in the United States. I moved around a bit growing up, which in the end turned out to be the best thing for me, even if I hated it while it happened. Because of the moving, I met the best friends I have today, the people who mean so much to me. Before we get to that, I'll do a bit more of an introduction of myself. I have one older sister, Cindy, who is the best sister ever. She really listens to me and understands a lot of what I go through, and for that I'm grateful. My parents, Kathy and Jim, are awesome. They support me in everything I do, literally and figuratively. Without them, I wouldn't be able to travel like I am or get the great education that I'm working on right now. They are being incredibly patient with me while I debate majors, especially since they are paying for the classes that I am taking. They sent me over to Germany to study abroad, which has been an incredible experience. I have learned so much in Germany, and it has led me to change my major to English with an emphasis on Creative Writing, my passion in life. They are sending me on South Africa to study abroad as well. With all my future plans to travel, they continue their support, even if my latest ideas for life may be a bit unconventional.
As you can see on this page, I love to write. I have always wanted to make writing my life, to just wander around the world aimlessly and write. Within the past year, I have begun to accept the dream more and more, but until the last few months, it never truly seemed attainable. The more I studied Business in Germany, though, the more I recognized that a career in business, working in an office, a normal life--none of that was for me. And with my recent spurt of creativity, I have refound my love for writing. With all the plans in my future to continue my studies while traveling, my dream is becoming a reality. For as long as I can remember, I have loved to write. Even in elementary school, I was dreaming big and writing down "adventures" and all sorts of stories. As I grew, those dreams grew with me to the point I'm at now, where I accept my dream and am currently making it a reality. Again, this is all thanks to my parents, who continue to support me. My switching majors has become a running joke in my family now. My father promised me he would pay for school until I graduated--of course, now the joke is that I have to pick a major and stick with it because he didn't mean that he would pay while I switched majors continuously, making him pay for years to come. Fortunately for him, I have finally accepted what I truly am and I am switching to writing, my true love. I had always figured I would end up in the English major, but I somehow got off track for awhile in the Business major. It hardly amazes me that I am ending back up in the writing field, as life has always seemed to work out sooner or later. I have no doubt, though, that I experienced the Business major for a reason. It seems to me that it was to force me in the direction of my dreams, for without the Business major, I would not have ended up in Germany. While I am sure I would have ended up studying abroad at some point in time anyway, I now look back at where my life has led and see that everything that has happened occurred for a reason and has made me into who I am today.
So, now, I have explained a bit about who I am and all that. I suppose that leads up to my friends, one of the most important parts of my life. My friends are the most amazing people I have ever met. Each has their own personality, their own odd tendencies, and together, we make a loud, obnoxious, insane, and loving group. Without my friends, I don't think I would have made it through the last several years. Sometimes we have been apart for awhile, busy with our own lives, but every time we get back together, it's like no time has passed, as though we were just hanging out moments ago. I met these girls in ninth grade, when I was just re-entering the public school system after two years in a private school. Lindsey was in Algebra with me, Krystal in Keyboarding, Jo in my Journalism class, and Amber and Jenny I met through Lindsey, Jo, and Krystal. If I remember correctly, Lindsey and I only talked a few times in Algebra before we met up at lunch through Krystal. Lindsey invited me to her fifteenth birthday party, and we have all been friends ever since.
After ninth grade, my parents moved us again, and I had to switch schools. That turned out amazingly well. I had a great education, many wonderful and inspirational teachers, and was still able to keep in touch with my friends. It became much easier once I got my license and my mom let me borrow her car. Eventually my parents got tired of losing their car and gave me one...of course, the major factor was that they needed to drive me to school everyday so I could attend the school they wanted me to go to, so I ended up with my wonderful Subaru. It drives me nuts, but it's still a good car and we found out at a football game that it can fit about twelve to thirteen people in it when squished together and piled in the back. Of course, there was also the incident where Jo got locked in the back of the car because we forgot to let her out. Good times! We stayed friends though, and are still all friends today. Now, between some of us going off to college, others working and starting their life, and still others who decide to travel while going to college, we tend to lose each other from time to time. Still, I know if anything happens, I can count on them to be there for me. Lindsey, Jenny, Amber and I will be going to South Africa for the next semester to study abroad. After that, Amber and I have made many, many plans of places to go together, which I can't wait for. Our adventures have only just begun.
I'd just like to add one more thing: I'd like to dedicate all of my work to all of the wonderful people in my life who have been my inspiration, my support, my everything. All of my friends and family of course, but also the amazing teachers who have shaped who I am. All of my teachers in all of my years of schooling have been awesome, patient, and kind, helping me to become everything that I can. They never gave up on me, and for that I will always be grateful to them. This is to Mr. Gawreluk, who in 5th grade inspired me to learn more and more, making learning a game and life more fun. To Michele and Ginny, my teachers at the MN Montessori school, who continually believed in me and encouraged me to be more than what I was and what I believed I could be. To Mrs. Larson, my 11th grade AP English teacher, who refused to let me drop out of the class on the first day when I got so scared. Because of you, I continued in AP English and learned so much more than I ever would have in a regular class. Thank you so much. To Mrs. Barton, who brought out my love of Astronomy and taught me so much more than I thought I would need to know on the subject. I know what I know about astronomy because of you. Every time I look at the stars, I remember you and your class. To McGrath, who made money management and learning about how the laws change when one turns 18 interesting and amusing. You made my junior year in high school amazingly fun, and I thank you for that. To Caruso, my 12th grade AP English teacher, who made Shakespeare come alive and opened my eyes to the wonders of books I thought were too much for me. I wasn't lying when I told you that you are the one who made me want to go into English. While it took me a while to get back to it, I still credit you as the one who lit the spark to my love of English. To Orsted, who made Physics in 12th grade so much Phun. Orstead, you brought Physics alive for me and showed me just how awesome that class can be. I have yet to find a teacher who can turn that subject into such and interesting and great class. Thank you so much for the laughter, the knowledge, and the Phun that Physics can be when taught by the right teacher. To Mrs. Willis and Mr. Young, my Foundations teachers, who smiled at my oddness and encouraged my creativity in making my folders and helping me to put together my resume. That was a great class and I thank you for being there for me. You made us a little family. To Cal and Weeze, the director of the Germany trip for Fall 2006 and his wife. You made the trip worthwhile, the best. Thank you so much for everything! To all of my Spanish teachers, some of whom I have lost the names but not the faces. You all taught me the language that now comes in handy, despite my complaints at the time of the classes. I thank you all for teaching me. And finally, to all of the other teachers I have had. Please blame the loss of names on the head and not the heart, because you are all there. You have all made me into the person I am today, being my mentors, my guidance, my teachers. It is you all who helped show the world to me, and I will never forget that. Thank you.
