We have two Greyhounds named Grant and Sisu. They were both rescued from the tracks. Sisu came from Florida and Grant came from West Virgina. Their bodies show the signs of racing. From stun gun marks to lacking hair on the belly and butts, its a reminder of what they went through. These dogs led a hard life before they came to live with us, but now they are in retirement. |
For greyhounds, their lives are filled with uncertainty. If the dogs are deemed not racing quality from their birth, then they are disposed of. If the dogs are trained to race, this does not mean that their not in any danger. If they happen to break a leg, then they could be done away with. When the dogs are not used for racing anymore, then they are either killed, abandoned, sold, or adopted out. Every year, more and more dogs are adopted out and this is a trend that should continue to increase. People are starting to see the dogs more as pets than just racers. But there is still more to be done. |
| People are starting to see the dogs and become curious about them. Everywhere that we go with our dogs, people stop us and ask us about if they were rescued, about the breed, and they tell us how they heard from people about the dogs personallities. This is good. It shows that people are learning more about the dogs. |
