Fleas
can become a very BIG problem quickly if they are not dealt with and
constantly kept under control. It only takes a cat walking across your yard
in the dead of night to introduce fleas into your yard. Unfortunately the
fence, whilst being great for keeping Fluffy in, provides no barrier for keeping
fleas out. So it stands to reason that if your neighbor has pets that aren't
protected or doesn't keep his yard flea free, you are going to inherit
his flea problem.
Spring is usually the worst
time of year but fleas can become a problem any time of year. The remedies
I suggest for flea control will also take care of ticks. The following
are my own personal suggestions.
There are three parts to flea control.

Setting off bug
bombs every three to four months throughout the house as well as underneath
it has been very effective for keeping my home flea free, provided the pets
are treated as well.
The yard is really very easy to treat and doesn't require much time or expense. The next time you are at the super store or your gardening supply store pick up a bag of SEVEN DUST #10. #10 is the strength. I have found the easiest way to sprinkle it over the yard is by putting it in an old nylon stocking and walking around the yard shaking the stocking. Don't do the yard just before a rain and have the dogs somewhere else whilst sprinkling as it might blow in their eyes. You should repeat this in 10 days to three weeks. After that you should be fine doing it two or three times a year unless infestation is really bad.
Now for Fluffy. There is a really good product out that is only available through your vet . It is expensive, but it works. It comes in either drops to put between the shoulder blades or a spray. There are a couple of products available but only one of them works after the dog gets wet. Usually, you do not have to take the dog in to buy it, but you do have to buy this from a vet.
