"I'd rather be the one who contacts the rebel
slaves," you say to Ffloyd after another glance at
the fierce beasts inside the pen.
"A good choice, I think," Ffloyd says. "Here is
what you must do: The slave barracks are about
half a mile east of here. Ther eare ten of them, all in
a row. You will want the third. That is where the
slaved called Jonathan is quartered. Jonathan is the
leader o the rebel slaves. There is a window beside
the cot where he sleeps. It is the second window to
the right of the barracks door. Do you have that?"
"Yes," you say. "Third barracks, second win-
dow to the right of the door."
"Good." Ffloyd smiles. "Next you must tap on
the window this code: Three taps, then pause, two
taps, then pause, then one tap."
  "Three, two, one," you repeat.
"If it is safe for Johnathan to join you, he will tap
the same code backward. Since Jonathan does
not know you, he will need some means of identi-
fying you. When you meet, therfore, say the fol-
lowing password: 'Liberty.' After that he will give
you further directions."
"Okay," you say, hoping you can remember all of this.
"All right then, be off with you. And take care-
this is a perilous business. I'll try to meet with you
again soon."
You rush to the barracks and find the third one.
Then you locate the second windows to the right of
the door. You reach up and tap: Three, pause, two,
pause, one. You wait. And you wait.
