| Hie, my name is Sikhanyisiwe Ngwenya. My friends call me Ska. I am a lesbian aged 27 from Harare, Zimbabwe and a soccer-player. Our Presidents in Africa insult us saying we are worse than �pigs and dogs�. They say homosexuality is a white man�s desease that is being tought to Africans in order to destroy African culture. That is a lie. Nobody tought us to be homosexual and we have always been there. There is an old word in my Shona language for a homosexual person: ngochani. Our presidents say that black lesbians do not exist. I am a black lesbian and proud. I knew I was a lesbian when I was 12 years old and I allways will be lesbian. And I say to our presidents, I am not the only one. I say to our presidents, stop persecuting us, stop putting us in prison for something that is part of our nature. Stop using us as scapegoats. You have failed to silence us because WE WILL BE HEARD. |
