On this date, the Orioles' 2001 season finale, Cal Ripken Jr. played in his 3,001st and final major league game. It was an anti-climactic game for Baltimore, as a first-inning sacrifice fly by Jeff Conine drove in their only run in this 5-1 loss, and Ripken went 0-for-3, standing on deck when Brady Anderson struck out to end the ballgame. In a side note, this also proved to be the final game for former All-Star Dante Bichette as well as journeyman catcher Joe Oliver, whose three hits were more than any other player on the night.
