Opening Day 2001 for the A's and Mariners marked another momentous occasion: the MLB debut of Japanese legend Ichiro Suzuki. Ichiro went 2-for-5 in this game, including an unbelievable throw from right field to third base to gun down Terrence Long, showing the American fans his defensive prowess as well as his remarkable hitting ability. John Olerud drove in a pair of runs and Bret Boone's 8th-inning sacrifice fly broke a 4-4 tie, with Kaz Sasaki closing out Seattle's win and picking up the save.
