Q:     How much did your miniramp cost?

A:   My ramp cost about $425 but I would estimate miniramps costing $400-$500 depending on size and cost of wood.

Q:     How long did it take you to build your miniramp?

A:   It took me a little over a week to build the ramp by myself.

Q:     How did you figure out how steep to make the transition?

A:    I didn't want any vert on such a small ramp so using the string compass method I used a 5 foot string to draw the curve.  This gives it a steep curve, but not quite vertical.  You want a steep enough transition to keep up your speed but not too steep....especially if you are just learning to skateboard.  If you rollerblade or BMX, however, you may want a steeper transition.

Q:     Was your transition too steep?

A:   It was a quite steep for a small 3' ramp. If I would make it over again I would probably use a 6 1/2 foot string to draw the transition.  I probably wouldn't use over a 7 foot string for a 3' ramp.  For a four+ foot ramp you may want an 8' transition.

Q:     How long is your entire ramp?

A:    My halfpipe is 21' long.  (2) 5' transitions, (2) 2 1/2' platforms, and 6' of flatbottom.  This can change from ramp to ramp.  You might use shallower transitions and more or less flatbottom depending on how tall your ramp is.

Q:     Can you send me some ramp plans?

A:    No...sorry but all I can provide you is the information on my page.  It takes a long time to draw up plans and I'm not a professional draftsman so they would probably suck anyway.

Q:     How much Lumber will my ramp take?

A:     I have no idea.  Every ramp is different and unless I planned the ramp myself I wouldn't know.  I suggest drawing up a scale plan of the ramp or something close to that so you get an idea of how much luber to buy.  If you do this then it will be a lot easier to build the ramp too because you will know where everything goes.
