“**** For the Action Packed Movie.” Black Hawk Down is a sensational action filled movie, it runs for almost two an half-hours, and has you holding on to your seat every minute. The movie is so well done, no wonder, with Jerry Bruckheimer producing (also produced Pearl Harbor, Armageddon), and the talented Ridley Scott directing (Gladiator, Hannibal). The movie featured a superb cast, Josh Hartnett (Pearl Harbor), Eric Bana (Chopper), Ewan McGregor (Moulin Rouge!), Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan), William Fichtner (The Perfect Storm), Ewan Bremner (Snatch), and Sam Shepard (All the Pretty Horses). The story is placed in Somalia, 1993, it is about the U.S. going after a warlord in midst of the countries civil war. The warlord is cutting off food to the country people and starving them, and the U.S. steps in. The best and brightest that make the Delta Task Force and the Rangers are sent to stop this evil. During a critical mission, a Black Hawk goes down turning everything upside down, and causing more chaos. The soldiers are outnumbered and surrounded by local militia. The militia members ready to die for the cause against the US. The soldiers have little ammunition, to protect themselves and those injured or killed. They find themselves fighting to save themselves and one another. The movie was complex and difficult to follow if even one minute is missed. The weapons, yelling and blood, make the story more of a task to follow, however it shows the real animosity, tension, confusion, and sheer terror in true war. The worst part about the movie was the graphic details of missing limb and body parts, as well as the end that lists those who lost their lives. The best part of the movie is during the entire time, no matter what the men stuck together, through gunfire, grenades, and death. “Leave no man behind,” was their theory, and what they believed was right. This movie is worth seeing; it exposes you to the truth, which we all must face at some point or another in our lives. This movie recommended to adults, because of the violence and the language. In is not recommended to those who cannot watch gruesome movies. If you are not a movie person and do not like to watch them but are a reader, then read the book, which is also highly recommended. Defiantly read the book of watch the movie, because this is not just another Hollywood version of war, it is the real thing.
