The
Yurok, sometimes called Sumeg Village, is a re-creation of real Yurok
Indian homes. The Yurok's land was not specifically here at
Patrick's Point, they lived more north, but there is no doubt that at
one time they either fished or gathered in the area. The village is
located near the old park entrance close to the Agate Beach Campground
and within walking distance of the entrance station. Axel Lindgren, god
rest his sole, was the resident Yurok before he past away in the late
90's. He was notorious for rambling during campfires, but he added
a lot of culture to the park. He helped bring the village to life and
before that made authentic Yurok canoes, one of which is still in the
park located near the Visitor's Center. |
