Ceremonial
Rock, the center piece to Patrick's Point. The rock stands tall in
the middle of the park, though the trees surrounding it make it seem
less than spectacular. Legend has it that the natives used to
perform religious ceremonies on top of the rock, though is cannot be
confirmed. From the top of the rock you can see the Pacific Ocean and
all its glory, just look between the trees and you'll see it. The rock
overlooks a huge meadow below it, a
man-made meadow believe it or not.
This meadow has to be trimmed back every year to keep the trees from
overtaking it. Interesting facts about the meadow: It and the rock
were used in the filming of the blockbuster movie Jurassic Park 2.
In the film, the dinosaur catches rounded up many dinosaurs in the
meadow while Jeff Goldblum and others watched from on top of one of the
smaller rocks in front of Ceremonial Rock. The meadow can be used
for a great game of Frisbee Golf. Deer can be seen frolicking in
the meadow from time to time as well. For those adventurous types,
night hikes through the meadow and the woods up to the top of Ceremonial
Rock are the best. I do suggest trying it with skittish friends and
children. |
