- Agate Beach -

The main attraction of Patrick's Point State Park is, without a doubt, Agate Beach.  In this picture, the beach can be seen from the overlook, a great place to check out the waves, the Big Lagoon, and the agate shoppers. The beach was given its name due to the hundreds and hundreds of agates that can be found on it every day.  This is the beach's claim to fame, and the agate is Doran Simmons' claim to fame; the two go hand in hand. A good time is had by all in search of agates, whether your name is Doran or not.  Agate beach is not a typical beach, but of course it is located in Trinidad, CA, not San Diego, CA.  Miles are sparkling white sand cannot be found here, what you will find are rock beds, small ones and large ones. Despite this, it is still possible to play a great game of football and Wiffleball.  In fact, two major championships have been held on Agate Beach in the past: The Agate Beach Bowl and the Agate Beach Series.  The championships have since been discontinued, but from time to time you may be lucky enough to see some of the founders, or in the future their children, playing exhibition games.
