1. You decide to plan a flight from Mammoth Yosemite (MMH) airport to Mariposa-Yosemite
 (O68) airport.  What is the minimum altitude that you can LEGALY fly along that route?
 (I am not asking for what you should fly, but what minimum altitude is required of you)


2. Since there is no tower (and thus no ATIS), on what frequency should to use to get
 airport conditions at MMH, and what information will you hear?



3. Upon departure from Mammoth Yosemite you wish to open your VFR flight plan.  On what
 frequency and with whom will you do this?


4. As you begin your takeoff roll from Mammoth in your brand new Piper Saratoga, a gust
 of wind causes you to lose control and you end up striking your wing tip, causing major
 damage to the wing structure.  Is there any way to get your aircraft fixed while at
 Mammoth?  Why or why not?


5. Since you are in a hurry, you beg your friend and he allows you to borrow his newly
 refurbished DC3 (and yes, you are type rated in the aircraft).  Because you now have a
 bigger airplane you decide to invite a bunch of your friends to come on the trip with you,
 and end up loading the aircraft to its Max gross weight of 19,000 lbs.  Why will this
 decision cause you trouble for your planned trip?



6. When you get near your destination of Mariposa-Yosemite airport you see that there is a
 dense layer of haze that tops out just below the top of the towers to the NE of O68.  You
 can tell that you will have at least 1sm but no more than two if you enter the haze.  In
 fact, as you fly overhead at 5000ft MSL you can see the airport through the haze.  Can
 you legally land (under VFR) at this airport in your situation?  Why or why not?





7. Because you can't remember your FARs and airspace, and you are unfamiliar with the local
 terrain you decide to divert to Oakdale (O27).  You are unfamiliar with the area so you
 tune in the El Nido VOR, proceed directly to it, then outbound on the 325� radial from the
 station on your way to Oakdale while descending to 2,000 ft MSL.  For how many miles will
 you be able to track the El Nido VOR and why?



8. As you near Turlock on your way to Oakdale your left engine has a catastrophic failure.
  Even though you are closer to Castle (MER) you decide to continue on and land at Modesto.
  Why would you rather crash at Modesto than Castle?  (having a control tower is not what I
 am looking for)



9. ATC clears you to land on Runway 10L.  Because of the haze you are having difficulty
 judging whether you are too high or low.  Were should you look to find visual guidance,
 and what sort will you see?  



10. OK, enough of the flight from hell.  Now for the random questions. What kinds of weather
 service are available at MOD?
