1967 VW BAJA

BODY
The car is based on a 1967 VW Beetle which incorporates a fully welded CAMs roll cage.   The body has a baja kit on the front end and the rear has been chopped off to allow access to the engine. The fuel tank has 110 litre capacity.

FRONT END
The front suspsension uses the VW Front beam incorporating the torsion bars but includes a bilstein coilover shock absorber on each side.   The hubs are a combination of standard and VW Superbug (thanks Peter and Colin Dooney) which run Holden Camira disc brakes (refurbished by ABR).   The steering rack is also of a Holden Camira.

REAR END
The back of the car uses a Type 3 VW suspension system enhanced by four shock absorbers on each side, one of which is a coilover.   The CV's and driveshafts are porsche and run to 15 by 8inch rims

ENGINE
The engine is a Nissan L20B with twin Hitachi (SU) side draught carbies.   It was rebuilt by Colin Dooney and although virtually stock it provides great reliability and matches the teams racing budget.

GEARBOX
A 2 litre VW gearbox is used.   However it has been extensively modified with close ratio race gears in it.   Once again thanks to Peter and Colin Dooney for their help with it.   It is probably the most high tech piece on the car.   Yes thats right a VW gearbox being high tech.   Well for this car anyway

HISTORY
This car was previously raced by the Trewahalla's.   It has been raced by SJ Racing since the start of 2005.   The car took us too the 2005 WA Class 4 Championships in 2005.
