My SATARA

My District

                           Satara is at the western limit of the deccan tableland in Maharashtra state. It lies between 16.50' and 18.10' north latitude and 73.45' and 75.0' east longitude. It has a geographical area of 4792 sq. miles (10,484 sq. km).

                     Pune, Solapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, and Raigad districts surround Satara district. It is bounded on the north by Nira river. On the south it is by Varna river. It is on the west the Sahyadris stood firmly to support my district. The Krishna, Koyana are the major river, which originates and flow through my district.

                    Satara is well connected by Railways and Roadways. It is situated on NH-4 (Pune-Bangalore Highway).

                    Satara is divided into 11 talukas. These are Jawali, Karad, Khandala, Koregaon, Khatav, Mahabaleswhar, Mau, Patan, Phaltan, Satara, Wai.

               Satara is well-industrialised district. The MIDC area is at districts place and at most of taluka places. The following is the list of major

� Electrical Machinery, Apparatus Appliances, Supplies and Parts;

� Beverages, Tobacco and Tobacco Products;
� Rubber, Plastics, Petroleum & Coal Products;
� Wood and Wood Products, Furniture and Fixtures;
� Basic Metals & Alloys, Metal Products;
� Non-electrical Machinery, Electrical Machinery;
� Etc.
                        The Sugar Factories (7) Spinning Mills (3) Registered Factories (appro. 276) give the fair idea about the growth potential of the district. Beside this Satara district is having various holy places, tourist places, forts, and Koyana reserve forerst.
Holy places       : Mahabaleshwar(Old), Wai, Karad, Pusegaon, Aundh, Mhaswad etc.
Tourist places    : Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Koyana, etc.
Forts                 : Pratapgarh, Ajinkyatara, Sajjangarh, Javali etc.
                    Koyana Dam on river koyana is one of the major dams in my district. The head quarter of Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is situated in Satara, which is Asia�s largest educational institution. Late Shri Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil founded it.
                    Educationally One Government Engineering College, Government Pharmacy College, Government Polytechnic, Few Industrial Training Institutes, Few Medical Colleges, Science, Commerce and Arts colleges of national repute. College of Education, MBA institutes etc. are the key listed educational Temples of my district.
